A year has passed since the death of August. Jamie is at school, struggling with PTSD as a new threat looms. Charlotte is staying clean, hiding out and tracking Lucien Moriarty. This time Moriarity makes it personal and the intrepid teens need to join forces just to survive. This installment in the series is an improvement from the last. Darkly emotive with an opaque plot but the duo‘s intense relationship is worth it. It is a pick with 4 of 5 ⭐️

Here's a brief overview of the plot: It's been one year since August Moriarty was murdered, and Jamie Watson would like to think he's gotten on with his life. He's finally feeling more at home at Sherringford, the prep school he attends. He's making good grades, has a girlfriend, and is applying for colleges.

A bit slow to start, but once they got going I loved being along for the ride! I love these YA homages to Sherlock Holmes and the way they highlight complicated people doing their best to get through difficult, confusing times. Dark and a bit sad, but ultimately rewarding. #BookspinBingo @TheAromaofBooks #19822022 @Librarybelle

My least favorite book of the series so far, but a necessarily connecting story. This one had background, closure, and processing for the main characters, while also providing time for the characters to mature. I felt the story itself jumped the shark a little bit, but I‘m really looking forward to reading the final installment once it comes off hold.

The book started off rough for me. Part of what I love about this series is the back and forth between Watson and Holmes. Having them apart for so long was disappointing, but the ending made up for it! I'm looking forward to seeing what trouble they get into next!

I adore the Sherlock and Watson characters crafted by Doyle. Cavallaro handles their descendants in an entertaining way that shows a love and respect for all Doyle accomplished with his clever tales. I look forward to the next book in the series.

I've been taking the time lately right before bed to read a little and I have found that it is so much easier to fall asleep! It has been my mom's "can't sleep" trick for as long as I can remember.

I just started lighting this candle while I read too. A little self care every day is part of my new routine until Sundays when I do a full self-care routine!!!

Awesome Book Boyfriend!

Find yours at https://www.epicreads.com/blog/book-boyfriend-builder/

Patchshank You're book boyfriend is Nikolai Lantsov!

Though you aren't actively seeking out the royal life, Nikolai is a romantic at heart—and it's that very good heart that will win you over. Struggles lay ahead, but if you can tackle them together (and manage to win Zoya over), we see a happy ending in store.

I've never read this book. Well hopefully he's a good catch.

I really enjoyed the 3rd in this series. Much more than the 2nd. I loved that Charlotte's POV had more of a voice this time. I love that Jamie as a character was made stronger and more impressive. I loved Elizabeth and hope we somehow see more of her spunky, feminist, snarky self. I loved that Charlotte was more fragile and youthful in this one. A semi-happy ending ❤

My favorite of the series so far and that‘s saying a lot. As I‘ve said before, it‘s hard for me to be objective about these books because I love the main characters so much. But I do think this one had the best combination of well-developed plot and profound emotional depth. My favorite part was that Charlotte tells half the story in her own voice, filling in the details of her past. She‘s wry, vulnerable, brilliant, and struggling to grow.

My February in review:

Books read: 11

Favorite: There were so many good ones this month! Probably a many-way tie, including the Charlotte Holmes series, The Lost Queen, and Sawkill Girls. It‘s a great month when you can‘t choose one favorite!

Least favorite: Honestly, The Thief. It was just too boring and obvious and young seeming for my taste.

Omg. This book. AH! It was SO good. SO heart wrenching. SO twisty. I loved it.

I also read it all in one day. On a camping trip. While I was supposed to be getting in touch with nature. And I actually love camping. That‘s how good this book was—I couldn‘t put it down even while surrounded by some of my other favourite things. Easily the best in the series so far, and it totally redeemed The Last of August for me. Also—that epilogue. So adorable.

Finally finished this one. I don‘t know why, but I put it down months ago and just never picked it back up. I‘m glad I did! It was well worth the read. I thought this was going to be a trilogy, but I see a 4th is slated for publication in March and I‘m not sure how I feel about it. I kind of liked where it ended, but I‘m sure I will read it anyway.

I used my Christmas gift cards to get this book and then I DEVOURED it! The stakes are high. Both of our MC‘s are heart broken and their futures are hazy at best. Charlotte breaks my heart so many times. And Jamie, I don‘t even know what I would have said to him if I could. The plot is clever and the twists, more so. And in the end, I was so very happy, I‘m not sure I‘m prepared to move on to the next book. I might float here a while. 5 ⭐️

Crewgurl I‘m reading this right now! I just had to put it down because i was at the point of no return (when Jamie realizes his mom married Lucien) and I have work tomorrow 😂 6y

With The Case for Jamie as my final, completed read, in 2018, I am at 167 books read this year! And I‘m carrying 6 current reads into 2019! It‘s been a good year for reading!

I‘ve been a little overwhelmed with life and all the things lately, so I haven‘t decided what #ReadingChallenges I want to participate in for 2019. Any suggestions from my wonderful bookish friends here on Litsy?

#HappyNewYearLittens! 🍾🎉😘✨

jpmcwisemorgan I‘m skipping challenges other than my Goodreads goal this year. I have some series I‘ve started and I‘d like to make sure I‘m current with them. There‘s a readalong on Facebook I‘m going to do part of and a few other book clubs and readalong things will likely pop up. I‘ve tried challenges and I want to do them all and then I end up doing none. 😬 6y
the.bookish.valkyrie @jpmcwisemorgan totally valid! That‘s kinda how the last three months have gone for me. Mostly I like to try to do the challenges because they help me be more mindful and deliberate so I can read more broadly and pick up books I wouldn‘t have otherwise. 6y
Bourriquet76 In 2018, I learned I suck at challenges. 😂 I have such a huge TBR list that forcing them into a challenge box only ends up backfiring. 6y

Nessavamusic I so fail at challenges but I‘m going to try #booked2019 which is fairly reasonable. Along with random monthly Litsy events. @ValkyrieAndHerBooks 6y

Kaye Sorry. My replies aren‘t showing up. I think I clicked the question mark nut can‘t see it. I meant to put !!! 6y
