These are my two English editions. Do I need more editions? Of course I NEED more beautiful editions😂The gorgeous hardback😍was from @mabel during a Jane Austen swap. The print came as part of the decoration but I saved it. I think the mug was also from @mabel

Another Jane Austen novel that I enjoyed. Both editions have an introduction that helps to understand the historical events surrounding the novel topic, I liked the characters and plot⬇️

Gissy (Cont.)...that was like a soap opera with terrible characters like Isabella, a villain, a gothic mystery, impossible love because of stupid social/financial status, etc. and happy love story. Isabella...John...those characters. I don‘t want a friend like Isabella never ever. 3.8/4 ⭐️ 11mo

Gissy @TheAromaofBooks That is true! 11mo
dabbe 🤩🤩🤩 11mo
mabell I love this! ❤️❤️❤️ I‘m so glad you enjoyed the story! I‘m going to have to look at the introductions - I‘m curious about what they say! It is like a soap opera a little bit 😂 11mo
Gissy @mabell That Isabella was terrible and John??? Manipulative little man. Did you see @LeahBerg post about the book The Novels of Georgette Heyer: A Celebration by Jennifer Kloester. I immediately thought in you and @Chrissyreadit because you both have posted books by this author. That book is like a reference book about author‘s novels. It has high ratings in GR. I have the series Inspectors Hannasyde and Hemingway by this author. I need to read it (edited) 11mo
Gissy @mabell I think I will check that book that @LeahBerg recommended 11mo
mabell They were terrible! Yet you could picture them so well! I did see that book that Leah mentioned! It sounds really good! But I tend to avoid background type books to avoid spoiling the magic 😆 11mo

Different reaction as an adult but full of good nostalgic memories. I liked these covers. So good to start from book 1 to remember how everything started. As I say, it was viewed from another perspective. Now I think how a middle age child will think about Nancy, who is 18 years old? Have you try these books with younger persons? Do they still read these stories in a world full of technology? Have you recommended these books to your children? ⬇️

Gissy I enjoyed the mystery and of course love Nancy as a female detective. She is 18 years old but in sometimes behave younger. So lovely the relationship she has with her father3.5⭐️

I have these two editions one in English and one in Spanish. Do I need other editions? Nope. Am I going to buy other editions? Yes! Obviously😂I know I will re-read these books. I don‘t have time for re-reads but I will make a space...before I die😳🤣
I enjoy all these gossips about Susan. It was like been active in social media but through letters😂Scandals, discrimination, gossips, famous characters due to their lifestyles.⬇️

Gissy (Cont.)...In few pages you have a picture of the era,,you will know about character social status, social lifestyle etc. Amazing how the author summarized everything in few pages... writing about these topics as a woman at that time. There is always the question of with whom you will like to have a dinner, dead or alive. Austen will be in that list👌even though I didn‘t like Emma and it has been difficult to finish Pride and Prejudice😳🤷🏽‍♀️⬇️ 11mo
Gissy 3.5/3.8⭐️I enjoyed this one. I think there is a movie or tv adaptation?

Gissy @Chrissyreadit Hi! I picked it up yesterday because it was left in another place. They called me (from my complex to pick up the package) and I was going to post the photo today as soon as I finish with these late reviews. The box looks like it went through a war😂 but everything was safe. I hope everything is in there because the box also arrived open in various places. I don‘t know what happened during that delivery😳Mine should arrive next week. (edited) 11mo

Wow, this was a late late reading for #LittensLoveRomance (book was assigned in November 2023😳) @Staycurious That will happen a lot with me. I buy the books, but I‘m a slow reader🤷🏽‍♀️I read the book discussion post

This book for me was okay. If you like hallmark style of second chance romances, you might like or enjoy this one. A lot of coincidences, too much, the romance was Immature but cute. Slow pace reading. I liked⬇️

Gissy (Cont.)...Liked Noelle‘s introspection, her self talking to analyze her emotions. She was insecure, trying to heal her friend‘s death, and dealing with some family drama, justify or not but almost a co-dependent relationship which turns it dysfunctional for the presence of guilt if you don‘t respond. There are other situations also happening to Sam. They were experiences hard to heal more when they occurred in those ages.⬇️ 11mo
Gissy (Cont.) In addition, there are some ex‘s that were manipulators🙄but when there is guilt, insecurity...you will feel attach to those relations. They could take time to make those closures. So well that both resolved it...not a spoiler, this is an almost hallmark story...happy end occurred to everyone😂 3/3.4⭐️ 11mo

First book in the trilogy of Ian Hamilton Mysteries. Set in 1881. I really enjoyed this historical mystery, a murder occurred and the body is found with an object, the murderer signature? It seems it is because other bodies are found with similar clue. This peculiar inspector, Ian Hamilton, will investigate these cases. Peculiar because his conversations/expressions are full of Shakespearean quotes. Love those parts.⬇️

Gissy (Cont.)...There are some funny parts, some murders are dark and there is a touch of family drama. I definitely will continue with this trilogy. 3.8⭐️

The Lost Pope | Glenn Cooper

#JoyousJanuary #BookSpinBingo #SeriesLove2024 #ReadAway2024

A shocking message on an ancient papyrus. A man intent on destroying it. And a forgotten pope that could be lost to history. Cal Donovan, a theology professor at Harvard, receives an urgent message from a former graduate student, Samia Tedros. Now a museum conservator in Cairo, Samia has discovered a miraculous fragment of papyrus with three unknown lines from the Gospel of

EadieB Mary Magdalene so explosive that a wealthy man is willing to kill to ensure no one ever sees it. At the Vatican, another drama is developing. The new Pope has defied centuries of tradition and appointed a nun, Sister Elisabetta Celestino, as his secretary of state. Powerful insiders are outraged that a woman now sits as the second most influential person at the Vatican, and they plot to destroy her. 11mo
EadieB When Samia shows up at Cal‘s doorstep in the dead of night, he is drawn into a deadly competition to possess a papyrus with the power to rescue Sister Elisabetta and change the course of Christianity.
Glenn Cooper, an excellent writer and researcher has written another novel full of intrigue. The Last Pope confirms that women played and important role in the early Christian Church.
11mo
EadieB It tells that Mary Magdalene succeeded Peter as the second Pope in Rome. Pope John receives flack for appointing Sister Elizabeth Celestine as his Secretary of State. If you like books with themes of murder, love and betrayal then you would love this book. Looking forward to the next Cal Donovan novel from Glenn Cooper. 11mo

The Women: A Novel | Kristin Hannah

Frankie McGrath chose to follow her brother, Finley, and joined the Army Nurse Corps and followed his path into the Vietnam War. Frankie is overwhelmed by the chaos and destruction of war. The real battle lies in coming home to a changed and divided America, to angry protesters, and a country that wants to forget Vietnam.

EadieB Frankie would stop by the VA and go to discussion groups and be told that only men were in Vietnam and fought in the war. Even her parents told her not to talk about the war. Kristin Hannah has written a book about all the women who served in Vietnam. The book is a great tribute to these women and one that should be read by all. Her best friends, Barb and Ethel, she met in Vietnam. 11mo
EadieB They help her as best they can to overcome her inability to get back to normal. There are many other parts of the book that I could write about but I think you should just get a copy and read it for yourself. It‘s a great book and there are three words that stand out: WE WERE THERE! 11mo

The brutal massacre of the Harford family at Potwoolstan Hall in Devon in 1985 shocked the country and passed into local folklore. And when a journalist researching the case is murdered twenty years later, the horror is reawakened.

EadieB Sixteenth century Potwoolstan Hall, now a New Age healing centre, is reputed to be cursed because of the crimes of its builder, and it seems that this inheritance of evil lives on as DI Wesley Peterson is faced with his most disturbing case yet. As more people die violently, Wesley needs to discover why a young woman has transformed a dolls house into a miniature reconstruction of the massacre scene. 11mo
EadieB And could the solution to his case lie across the Atlantic Ocean, in the ruined remains of an early English settlement in Virginia USA? When the truth is finally revealed, it turns out to be as horrifying as it is dangerous.
The mass murder at Potwoolstan Hall in 1985 has a lot of characters that have changed their name in this modern day mystery which was never solved in 1985.
11mo
EadieB The characters are a bit confusing and hard to keep straight. Wesley and Pam's marriage is going through a tough period as she is taking care of 2 children by herself and her husband is always at work. I'm hoping their marriage gets straighten out and Wesley and Pam stay together. If you like murder with lots of characters then you will love this book. I'm looking forward to the next installment of this Wesley Peterson book! 11mo
