2✨Honestly, I‘m not sure why I finished it. It was a cruder version of Snow White. I thought it might just be the second book I read because I really liked Wicked from this author, but now I think I just don‘t like his writing style. I like his imagination, but this one I felt was lacking in even that category. Oh well, I‘m going to try the rest of the wicked series and then I‘ll call it there. #roaringwolf “Green”

Well, I wasn‘t able to finish the last audiobook. However, I took a good chunk out of my TBR for February. Only had 7 spaces left. More detailed list to follow. 😊💛

I plannned to give this book a so-so, but in a stunning plot twist (something the book lacks), it‘s a pan.

I thought I‘d love the insertion of the Borgias into the Snow White story. I thought I‘d enjoy the writing since I loved Wicked. I was wrong… either this went way over my head or it was pretentious drivel. Who‘s to say.

BUT, I got a book off my shelf after 10 years, ✅ed boxes for #Booked2022 & #52BookClub,& read my #DoubleSpin.🤷🏻‍♀️

At first, I thought how clever to reinvent Snow White with Lucretia Borgia as the evil stepmother. I am just not one who appreciates Maguire's writing. Just too much consensual incest. Maybe, I will try Wicked again. I love the musical, but bailed on the book a long time before the adaptation.

9+ hours and I keep losing my concentration. I‘m pulling the parachute chord and bailing on this book. I may try again months down the road, or it‘ll be a library donation if I‘m not in the mood to give tagged book another chance.

I read Wicked last year and am interested to see how Maguire re-imagines this fairytale.

This is one that has been on my shelves forever. I'm glad to have finally read it. Sadly though, it wasn't the greatest. The rambling history of politics bored me and I wanted more about Bianca. It is supposed to be a retelling of Snow White, but it ventured off topic too much.

I've had this book on my shelves for a long time. With Maguire I either absolutely love the book, or I hate it. I should give it a try one day.

Yikes, I‘m a bit behind here. Goodreads has my full review.
I finished this earlier this week and did not care for it. At first I thought it was, but as I was writing out my review for goodreads I realized I actually didn‘t like it at all. The overall feeling I was left with was that everything—the plot, the characters, the world building—was vague and shallow. The potential of Lucretia Borgia was a huge waste and the biggest disappointment.

Waiting on a book to come in at the library so I‘ve started this in the meantime. I DNF‘d Wicked last year but I‘m hoping this will be different. 30 or so pages in and I don‘t hate it yet so that‘s a good sign. I do like books about the Borgias and found it interesting that he wove their story into a Snow White retelling.

Until I started looking, I had forgotten how often a magical mirror appears in fairy tales. I think I'll stick with my non- talking, non-magic mirrors. #mirror #NewHogwartsAdventure @vkois88 @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks

What else to do at 1am but finished the last 60% of a book? I love how Gregory Maguire takes the stories we think we know and makes them believable.

Maguire is hit or miss with me. I love to read well known fairy tales told from different points of view and Maguire often does that with creativity. However, it can be such a chore to wade through his layers of symbolism.

I have a love/hate relationship with Gregory Maguire's books. I really liked Wicked but sometimes the writing put me off. I did not really care for Son of a Witch. I LOVED Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister. I have high hopes for Mirror Mirror. #photoadaynov16 #fairytaleretelling

I love me some Gregory Maguire. Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister was given to me back in high school from a close friend, and after I devoured it, I quickly bought Wicked, Mirror Mirror and Lost (Son of a Witch wasn't published yet 😉, nor was Wicked a musical).
