Hun leven in Rachels ogen is perfect.

Wonderful!

Referring to herself, Rachel points out on the very first page that many of the things she is about to share may be but the fruit of her imagination. Together with her fractured memories from excessive drinking, she seems to be oblivious of the fact that Therapy can save her. The most poignant quote is the one by Phoebe Buffay of friends saying “Rachel has arrived“ when she has one of those 'reflective' moments of truth.

Lessons to learn - Get professional psychological help when getting depression, anxiety, blackouts etc. Heal yourself. Dont help others when broken. It will drain you and likely hurt them.Be very careful how you react in anger. Don‘t say things you‘ll regret. Quit getting drunk or get off the train. Seriously. There is not one character to cheer for in this whole book. I hate unreliable characters and a twist you can see coming for miles. Book club bust.

“Drunk women solving crimes” is my favorite Thriller subgenre. I found this thoroughly engrossing &enjoyable.

The story follows 3 women surrounding the disappearance of local woman Megan Hipwell. We see the most perspective of Rachel, who has lost her job, marriage & possibly her mind due to drinking; Anna -her exhusband‘s new wife; and Megan herself. Rachel inserts herself into the investigation, but no one finds her credible 🍷

thrift store haul!
I never find this much good stuff at the store in town!
Some books- really looking forward to Girl on the Train & Wife Between Us & Coben is solid so these won‘t be on the shelf too long, a duffb, a jacket that‘s going for $120 on poshmark that was $10, the small bag is Betsy (it‘s in rough shape but if I see Betsy I always buy it) and a candlestick holder where the cat is fishing for a goldfish- who doesn‘t need that?

I was sick recently but I put my down time to good use with this quick read. It was fast paced and interesting, albeit at times very repetitive. It was creative to have the protagonist be an alcoholic. The end was a bit predictable, but oh well. It was entertaining. The movie didn‘t match up if you ask me, but the book was like a solid 3/3.5.

I really liked this book. I liked how it was really good at telling you enough information to keep you interested but not enough to make it obvious. I couldn't guess who it was until the book told me who it was. I knocked off 1 star because I thought it was a bit long and rambled at times. 4/5 stars

books_and_tea I loved this:)! 3y

We went for a riiiiiide w this one! So many twists!
The first half felt pretty different than the second. At first this reminded me of “Notes on a Scandal”, with a wee bit less obsession (just a wee bit) and a wee bit more alcohol (ok, plenty more alcohol).

The second half had a lot more going on. Way faster, slightly confusing (meant to be, tho, I think?), and thoroughly gripping.

Palimpsest @Megabooks Agree. I don‘t t mean to sound mean, but I guessed who by page 66 and the ending when she comes after him corkscrew I found laughable. It was like he drove her to become a drunk and now part of that vice would be turned against him. My first contemporary thriller and I haven‘t picked one up since. IMO the movie was better, but I like Emily Blunt a lot. 4y

This book taught me how we can be manipulated. How some sick person makes us feel unworthy, destroys our self-esteem and never, even realize it. Being emotionally healthy is important.

A good book.

I read this book a couple of years ago & remember not being able to put it down. I couldn‘t recall the story line, so I excitedly downloaded the audio version. It was great the second time too! In a way, listening made the perspective shifts easier to follow bc the voices were different. Highly recommended!

The Girl On The Train is about a woman named Rachel and about her struggle with her lost job and becoming an alcoholic. She continuously struggles with the fact that she can't escape her past and she seems to hurt everyone around her. I would say that alcohol is a recurring symbol in this book and the main motif that symbolizes Rachel's addiction and daily struggle. If you like books with major plot twists, then you'll like this one.
