An awesome ending to a great series! Loved rose so much and all the characters. The story kept me turning the page and I didn't wanna leave this world, much like rose didn't want to leave the kingdom of adas. Every time I thought I knew where the story was going it twisted and turned. Còrdova really upped the ante in this one. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Such an informative history that must be read by all. There's things here that I had a vague knowledge of only because my fam is Puerto Rican, not because I was taught in school. But damn even we don't know the half of it and honestly it's f***ed up. If you want a better understanding of the battle over statehood v nationalism for PR, read this. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Truly a fascinating and yet uncomfortable read at times, which I think was Machado's intent so well done. A good one for the espooky season. Couldn't help but get caught up in the language. And I loved that every story was basically just a long winded metaphor for the harm the patriarchy does to women. ⭐⭐⭐⭐

This was such a fun fantasy. It's the world cup with dragons and team Puerto Rico represents for the first time in this competition in the story. But there's a greater mystery afoot and lana torres must choose to fight for something more important than the games, the cup she's dreamed of winning her whole life. ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Angsty and heartbreaking and very well written. Farizan's lush language brings emotions and setting to life. Some stuff with trans narrative that to me felt like it might have lacked some nuance but I'm not the best judge of that so don't take my word for it. Overall good read. ⭐⭐⭐⭐

I enjoyed this wlw historical romance. Romance is still not quite my thing so I'm sure for someone who loves the genre this is one to gush about. For me it was fine and fun. I will say if you're a fan of sexy times this book was quite steamy. Overall a good one to read if you're looking for more queer rep in your reading. #sapphicseptember

CWilson Many of the short stories in there- especially the husband stitch, has stayed with me for almost a year. I feel like there was a message about being believed as a women that just really resonated with me. (edited) 4y
meagankc21 @CWilson yes! Still working my way through the husband stitch but it really is so good so far. I've just been so distracted lately that reading is impossible 4y

ALWAYS HUMAN | Ari North

Such a cute queer romance with a cool sci-fi world where most people use body mods to enhance their aesthetic or body functions. But some people, like Austen, can't use body mods because they're immunocompromised. Great story that delves into ableist language and preconceived notions. Plus 2 sweet young women falling in love. ⭐⭐⭐⭐

If you're into scifi and fantasy and are looking for a diverse twist in those genres, this is the book for you. Filled with incredible world building on the surface & layers of social commentary, it's the perfect example of why these genres have such staying power. Some body horror in a few so you've been forewarned. ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Filled with flawed and imperfect women, Roxane Gay's short story collection makes readers face up to what society considers a difficult woman. Tw: sexual assault, rape, violence, pedophilia. It's not easy to read these, but anyone familiar with her work knows that already. Definitely a collection that makes you think. ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Wow! A short but powerful read. Follows the story of 2 siblings growing up in a world of protests, riots, and the mistreatment of Black people. Sound familiar? Because the only thing that makes this fiction is the scifi element with Ella who has special powers. And even that acts as a vehicle for metaphor. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

A totally random thought but did anyone else ever get obsessed with a band in their youth and write fanfic and stories based on their music? I was such an angsty little middle schooler and this band's music just opened me up to a whole new way of storytelling. They're a huge inspiration for why I became a writer. And I'm a writer because I was first a reader. It's kind of a full circle thing. #randomthoughts
