West Side Love Story | Priscilla Oliveras

Pickpick

This story of these two families at odds was so entertaining and rich in detail and culture. As a little girl growing up in Texas, the setting felt very much like home. The love of family, the pride and strength was evident. The flow of this generational dispute and the need to care and love for family was both familiar and realistic. Pride has the ability to make contentious issues that are not necessary. #latinxheritagemonth

These are some working titles for #Scarathlon #TeamSlaughter Spooky reads, mystery reads will definitely include Karin Slaughter (of course!), Silvia Moreno Garcia #LatinxHeritageMonth Tana French, S.A. Crosby Stephen Graham Jones (gotta have some monsters), and Nordic Noir. Final list depends on library holds. I will need #BookspinBingo to help with decisions!. @Clwojick @StayCurious

Molly‘s asleep, and 🤞🏻 I will be soon. Here‘s my #WeeklyForecast.

I‘ve got a bunch of memoirs out at the library, including two for #LatinxHeritageMonth. Wayward arrived in print, and I will likely start it tomorrow morning.

Harlem Shuffle may be a so-so for me, too, @Cinfhen @britt_brooke 🤔 Addicted to Perfect is a simple memoir that I‘m falling asleep to tonight. It‘s #AudiblePlus. Review of Union‘s memoir coming tomorrow. Night! 😴

Cinfhen Can‘t wait to hear your thoughts on the Union!! Sweet dreams xx 3y
Megabooks @Cinfhen the Union was great, but I‘m having trouble getting my thoughts together for reviews lately 🤷🏻‍♀️. 🤞🏻 it ends soon. Perfect is a super quick listen. I went in with low expectations, and it‘s meeting my needs of what to read atm. I listened at almost the same speed as Shuffle, but it‘s going much faster. Audiophiles like you get it! Some books are more like medicine. 😂 I‘ll still probably still finish Shuffle even with the struggle. (edited) 3y

Cinfhen You write such SHARP reviews so i can‘t imagine that you are experiencing any kind of obstacles. 🙏🏻 you get your writing mojo back 😘Are you struggling to get through 👉 it‘s not just you!! 3y
britt_brooke @Megabooks I‘ve been struggling with reviews lately, too. I get 2-3 books behind on them and just can‘t gather my thoughts either. 😕 3y
Megabooks @Cinfhen yes, definitely struggling with Harlem Shuffle! 3y
Megabooks @britt_brooke 🤞🏻 both our writer‘s block passes. So frustrating! 3y

Paola Santiago is a 12 yr old who likes things that are real and proven by science. She doesn‘t believe in the stories her mother tells her about La Llorona to keep her away from the river. Then one night her world is turned upside down.
This middle school age book was a first for me but I had to read it because I also grew up in the same stories that Paola has. It was really well written and brought back so many childhood memories for me.

A short book about a sister crossing the Mexico/US border to find her brother and deliver a message, this covered a lot of ground (physically and metaphorically) in less than 150 pages. It was a perfect finish for the non-spooky first half of #LatinxHeritageMonth reading...now onto the Brujxes! 😄🔮

The Torres sisters dream of escape. Escaping their neglectful, needy father and their San Antonio neighborhood expectations, until the oldest, Ana, falls to her death.

I was always weary of magical realism books, after reading a few I really love them. This one did not disappoint. There is a lot going on with the sisters and this story deals with it all: trauma, grief, female empowerment and ghost. Great writing done in each sisters POV.

When I went looking for a book that can count for #latinxheritagemonth and future #spooktober recommendations I was not disappointed! A walled off Mexico City... Several species of vampires, one which traces back to the days of the Aztecs... This was an enjoyable read.

Cathythoughts This makes me wish I loved fantasy .... (edited) 4y
Sace Makes me wish I liked vampire stories... 4y
ReadingEnvy @Cathythoughts it's more horror than fantasy, does that help? Lol 4y
