pick4✨It has been a while since I‘ve read anything from Hemingway, but I feel like his books continue to reveal themselves throughout this historical fiction. Farewell to arms being one that was lived by the characters and it brings about the story. The life and love story of a favorite author of mine was fun to read in this fictional depiction.

pickI just love reading about this literary set, and McLain‘s take on them is approachable but well written. This has been on my shelf for years, was recommended by tons of people, and was even a #Roll100 pick I didn‘t get to a few months back, so I‘m glad it was this month‘s #bookspin so I finally found that push to read it! I switched back and forth between print and audio and found the print way more compelling and absorbing. @TheAromaofBooks

bailedThis book was put in my hands with a vague, “I enjoyed this,“ by a family member. Free is a good price point, so I took it. I only read a chapter of this one before realizing…oh. This is a book about Hemmingway, Paris, and adultery. I've got no attachment to the first two, and greatly dislike the third so…I decided to read something else.
The chapter I read had a lovely narrative voice, though, I'd certainly read other things by the author.

I enjoyed the setting & McLain really brings her characters to life including the Fitzgerald‘s as well as Gertrude Stein & Ezra Pound. pickIt was a beautiful evening to read by a fire for a bit. I finished this book, and I felt the same as I had through most of the story. I really enjoy the way Paula McLain writes historical fiction, but I was just continually waiting for things to go badly. I felt wonderfully connected to Hadley‘s story and loved the descriptions of the places they traveled. Additionally, The Sun Also Rises is my favorite Hemingway so far, so I enjoyed that aspect.
This book has been on my TBR for too long, but I‘m finally started! I want to read it, but I‘ve also had a hard time picking it up because I know parts of it are going to be tough.

#Jumpstart2023 was a success! I completed my goals and then some. Having set goals and knowing exactly what I was going to read really helped to keep me focused. Awesome start to my reading year. pickThe sadness of a sweeping grand love story doomed because that‘s how it was is captured perfectly here by McLain using the clipped direct writing style that you can imagine Hemingway using. I liked it a lot.
Both books describe Hemingway‘s early years in Paris. The Paris Wife is from Hadley‘s view & A Moveable Feast from Ernest‘s view.
Reading TWICE how Hadley LOST ALL of his manuscripts was TWICE as heartbreaking. They must have been thrown away, since there was no money 💰 in the valise. Could you imagine if the manuscripts were found, what they would be worth now?

bailedI just could not get into this one. Every time I tried to read it I got distracted…just didn‘t hook me. It‘s about Ernest Hemingway‘s first wife, Hadley.
Wrapping up June by finishing my #bookspin The Paris Wife. (I really enjoyed it!) We toured the Hemingway House in Key West last summer, so I knew there wasn‘t a happy ending for Hadley and Ernest, but I rooted for her anyway. Now I want to read ALL the Hemingway! I added A Moveable Feast to my July #bookspinbingo and hope to read The Sun Also Rises in August!

Knowing how the story ends, doesn‘t make it any easier to read. I want to read more of Hemingway‘s work. The Sun Also Rises was one of my favorite novels assigned in high school. Now I want to read A Moveable Feast. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

Currently reading...along with a lot of Googling of Earnest Hemingway and his first wife.
so-soI have been trying to think of the fair review I was going to give McLains novel but I can‘t decide! It was VERY slow and you could feel Hadley becoming more and more exhausted at Hemingway‘s BS and by the end when he killed himself I found myself saying thank you, he just wasn‘t good. And low key the entire time after Hadley lost all of his work I wondered if it was intentional 🤷🏼♀️

bailedI read to page 125 before giving up. It felt as if there was something separating me from the book. Hadley seemed to a very boring person without an interest in anything around her. She's living in Paris and she stays in her apartment without getting out and exploring.
pickThis is a very well written book about the first wife of Hemingway, and the time they have spent together in Paris. It's a fast, enjoyable read with frustrating "characters". It's a great book for a book club ;)

so-soThe fictional story based on fact of Ernest Hemingway and his first wife Hadley Richardson. Written in her voice. I actually didn‘t finish it. I think because after the first two chapters I was curious about his life so read about it on Wikipedia. Then I had the plot and found the book a bit tedious. If you know very little about him this would be a good read. The writing does flow but I couldn‘t finish many other books waiting. 😊.
