so-soAn amusing way to spend a few hours with something on in the background. I remain biased towards graphic novels that are as much about a beautiful art style as a narrative portrayed; I realize it's apples and oranges to compare that experience to a sketch style black and white comic collection, but it does mean I don't end up enjoying the visual experience as much. I appreciated the historical context provided for certain strips.

pickKate Beaton is a treasure. Her comics range from history to literature to (of course) Batman. The footnotes are not to be missed. I don't remember when I first started reading her, but she's one of my go-to faves.

so-soA humorous comic about history and literature? Sign me up! This collection started great. The first comic (see above) made me laugh out loud. Unfortunately the collection is rather uneven. Some are hilarious, some mildly humorous, but there are a lot that just try too hard. Also, I know nothing about Canadian history, which features prominently. I did chuckle on the Canadian stereotypes, though. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

pickSince the Hark a Vagrant hiatus turned into a permanent end for my favourite webcomic, I decided to reread both of the collected books of the comics. I still love these. Kate Beaton just gets me. Literature, history, pop culture, and humour, all from the same source. Always recommended. Looking forward to rereading Step Aside Pops. Bummed there won't be more Hark a Vagrant but always interested in more from Beaton anyway.
pickI enjoyed this collection of comic strips, although there were a few that went over my head. (At least I admit it! 😁) Any time someone can take history and portray it in a humorous way, I‘m in. I am thinking of sharing this with some of my colleagues so they can use some of the strips with their classes. I‘d like to find more of Kate Beaton‘s work.

pickThis was a really fun graphic novel with a lot packed into it. There‘s something for everyone and not too heavy at all. I really enjoyed this author‘s writing and cartoons. I highly recommend this one!

Comics- some will make you split with laughter, others are a chuckle, some go over your head, only a few are meh. But for those who like history and lit in bite-sized, laught-at-yourself forms, this is great!
Might even knock off another one on the #ReadingWomenChallenge but not sure yet.
Well, think these might be my final #yearendstats I kind of wanted to hit 100 books when I saw I was so close but alas, being with family soooo much put a major damper on the reading.
Oh well, I had no real goal for number read.

This book has everything! Hipsters, Mr. Darcy, Wonder Woman, and even Jules Verne and Poe. I love keeping it out and flipping through a few pages here and there. Picking this for day two of #riotgrams
