Well, shucks. A lot of promise at the start: unique premise, irreverent and humourous writing style; sex positive pansexual, not simply bad ass but appreciatively skilled and canny (without necessarily being manic pixie dream warrior trope) female main character; gradual world-building that hints at the past and makes intriguing suppositions about certain unknowns; engaging supporting cast; nods to one developing relationship, BUT

Robotswithpersonality 2/? adventure/quest formula started to bog down the pacing, character development fell by the wayside, became a lot more about the next bit of action or strategy, and then the ending cliffhanger-ed for the sake of a duology (you know I hate that shit, and no, I will not be debating whether that ending counts as a cliffhanger, to me it did. 🙎🏼‍♂️) At which point, the fact that the book was light on answers and dragging a little in the middle 6d
Robotswithpersonality 3/3 makes a lot more sense. Do I care enough to read the next book when it comes out? Not sure.
⚠️Author kindly provides a content warning in the front of the book. Heed the warning!

i was reluctant to read this at first because i'm still hungover from boyfriend material but O-M-G. i'm sorry but i do indeed love a grumpy violent man who gets his emotional support from a cat that isn't his and sunshine but actually very lonely man who got abandoned by said cat. one of Alexis's weaker titles but still entertaining 😆 #queer #gay #funny

CarolynM Alexis Hall is always entertaining 🙂 5d

Two redheads are rescued from prison by a merry band of adventurers. One of the redheads is the heir to the throne, but the idiot leading the band can't decide which one it is and, to be on the safe side, takes both. A quest through dangerous swamps, battles with bandits, and facing the villain ensues.

If you are a fan of lough out loud funny D&D campaign style stories with an M/M forced proximity romance, read this.

I totally should have been doing the things around the house I said I‘d get to in the new year, but I‘ve spent the day at run club, down Internet rabbit holes, and on the couch with this book. 🤷🏻‍♀️

3 ⭐Some kids and a dog play a game of “go and yet”. The narrator says go and get something with a letter. The kids bring back something obvious, and the dog always brings something back not as obvious. This book is repetitive but in a way that makes sense. It is cute and the illustrations are lovely. However, it‘s not special. It feels like something you have seen and read before. That‘s not a bad thing. It‘s just a usual thing.

3 ⭐ This book is about a fire hydrant who thinks they‘re worth more than being peed on every day. They consider themselves a toilet. The illustrations are what really makes this book move. The words are a fire hydrant feeling like they‘re different and they deserve more than to be a dog toilet, but the illustration show that this fire hydrant is going to be used for what it was designed for in just a few more pages.

A group of senior citizens take on the task of saving the community center (which also houses a daycare, AA meetings, and other groups). It is a humorous (with moments of sadness) look at an aging group of people who become friends and allies. Overall, a very good read.

One last book in for the year!
Make a great day everyone 🎉
