One Perfect Lie
One Perfect Lie | Lisa Scottoline
A handsome stranger moves to the small Pennsylvania town of Central Valley, and his name is Chris Brennan. Hes applying for a job as a teacher and varsity baseball coach at the local high school, and he looks perfect, on paper. But his name is an alias, his resume is false, and everything about him is a lie. And he has a secret plan - for which he needs a pawn on the baseball team. Susan Sematov loves her younger son Raz, the quirky and free-spirited pitcher of the team. But Razs adored father died only a few months ago, and the family is grief-stricken. Secretly, Raz is looking to fill the Daddy-shaped hole in his heart. Heather Larkin is a struggling single mother whos dedicated to her only son Justin, the quiet rookie on the team. But Justins shy and reserved nature renders him vulnerable to attention, including that of a new father-figure. Mindy Kostis is the wife of a busy surgeon and the queen bee of the baseball boosters, where her super-popular son Evan is the star catcher. But she doesnt realize that Evans sense of entitlement is becoming a full-blown case of affluenza, and after he gets his new BMW, its impossible to know where hes going or whom hes spending time with. The lives of these families revolve around the baseball team and Chris Brennan. What does he really want? How far will he go to get it? Who among them will survive the lethal jeopardy threatening them, from the shadows? Enthralling and suspenseful, One Perfect Lie is an emotional thriller and a suburban crime story that will keep readers riveted to the shocking end, with killer twists and characters you wont soon forget.

This was for bookclub where none of us cared for it. It gets a meh for me because there was a part where there was potential if she had rewritten the book. Is that a meh, Litsy? Idk. There was a man whose whole thoughts on the book were-This is an insult to our group. It‘s an insult to readers everywhere. I wanted to give him a hug. lol Because the book was so bad we went off topic and had some great discussion. Here‘s hoping for a better book!

Who is Chris Brennan?

He is the newest high school teacher and assistant baseball coach for a small town in Pennsylvania.

But who is he REALLY?

We quickly learn that Chris is not who he says he is, and with the turn of each chapter, readers piece together just why Chris has this false identity.

Fast paced ending with a few slower chapters in the middle. Still a decent read!

So-so for lack of character development.

Got through a good chunk of this book, One Perfect Lie, on my walk today, and then came home to these two adorable faces!

So far, so good! There‘s already been a twist, and the storyline is intriguing.

Anyone else read this one? Wondering if the ending will be strong.

Not my favorite by this author. It was pretty slow for me. The beginning caught my interest and then it plateaued and never really picked back up again. The storyline was good, but it just needed something else to make the plot more entertaining.

First time listening to a book on tape! It‘s so nice to do this while I knit. Why on 🌏 haven‘t I done this before, lol. Really fascinated by this book, and I can‘t wait to find out what happens. Not too excited by the narrator, though. He makes all the female characters sound like Tina on Bob‘s Burgers. 🤣🤣

mabell I love audiobooks! The reader really makes a difference. George Guidall does a great job with the Cat Who books. 6y

Really wanted to launch my Litsy account with a rave, but in my opinion, this book was just okay. There were parts I enjoyed, but I felt like it couldn't decide whether to be domestic drama, police procedural, or by the end, a Bruckheimer action thriller. Has anyone else read this one? Was it just a case of faulty expectations on my part?

I liked the premise of this book; it was full of twists for me. I surprised when I saw the direction in which she was taking the reader. I was heading into an entirely different direction; I have to admit Ms. Scottoline is one of my favorite writers. Her books are great but i really like her as a person. I wasn't disappointed in this book at all. I can't go into details because I'll kill it with spoilers!

Picked this up at the exhibits at the Public Library Association conference in Philadelphia this week. Perfect plane read - it kept me engaged throughout two flights to get home. It kept me guessing until the very end! And I had visited a couple of the locations mentioned in the book while in Philly- brings the book even more alive for me.

Interesting story. Toward the reveal, the motivations of a few characters didn't seem strong enough to elicit the reactions that they did. Some chapters IMHO needed an additional read-through for minor things like awkward phrasing and non-poetic word repetition.

4⭐️ One Perfect Lie is an enthralling crime story, set in a small town in Pennsylvania. You can‘t help but fall in love with Chris Brennan, almost all the girls at Central Valley High School have. He is single, good-looking & quite the gentleman. But he has a job to do, & it has all of his attention. he can‘t afford to be thinking of anything or anyone else. https://lharvey250.tumblr.com/post/159283638209/one-perfect-lie-lisa-scottoline-...

Excellent book that kept me guessing the entire time. So many people with so many lies. A guy impersonating a teacher in a high school and at first you don't know why. A death. A divorce. An affair. All leading to an exciting ending.

So many surprise twists, I was never sure where this story was heading! On a side note I love the way she goes into such detail about a subject, even subjects that wouldn't normally interest me and just enough so that it doesn't bore me at all. And then I'm surprised how well those facts tie right into her story.

In a quiet, rural Pennsylvania things are not what they seem. There is a new teacher in town & as he quickly jumps into life as a teacher and assistant baseball coach but he is up to so much more. Why is he looking to rent a box truck? Why did he lie about being from Wyoming? And why is he curious about fertilizer? In this fast reading novel things are not always what they seem. This was the 1st Lisa Scottoline book I've read but won't be the last!

Tera0707 This sounds interesting! I've never read any books by this author. Might have to check it out 7y

For a Lisa Scottoline stand alone thriller, this was an enjoyable listening! I liked how the narrator embodied the different voices. With all the seriousness in the world lately, I needed something light- is it weird that I consider Lisa Scottoline light? 🤔🤷🏼‍♀️ gave 4 stars on Goodreads.
