This is the first in a four book series, set in different timelines. Esta can time travel using magical ability. She steals magical artifacts and brings them to the Professor. She is sent to New York in 1902 to steal a book and stop the Order, who wants to control magic and mageus. It's a good fantasy story.

I feel like I was supposed to like this book a lot more than I did. I kept seeing the comparison to Six of Crows (which I loved) and I think that was a big part of the problem, because it wasn‘t. And I just felt bored with it too often. Too many things had to happen to push the book along, instead of the characters having to actually work through the plot in an organic way. I don‘t know. I‘m mulling it over. Not sure if I‘ll do book two or not.

I don‘t want to say too much, since this book is traveling to several more Littens before making its way back to @LibrarianRyan . I did enjoy the book enough to call it a pick, but it was close. I thought the second half was much stronger than the first.

As you can see Ryan, your book was the perfect test for my book hugger, and Froedrick And I both strongly approve! I like the soft feeling of it as I‘m holding the book.

What a great story!! Its about time travel, magic, betrayal, murder and then some! Great twists at the end that i did not see coming. A must read! I give it 4 stars.

I did not finish the book even though the story has an intriguing premise. I gave up about 60% of the way through which was frustrating because I wanted to know how the story ended. However, I felt the direction the author took the MC Esta was shallow and cliched. Perhaps YA enthusiasts can overlook this, along with some of the other stunted character issues, but I couldn't.

I actually bought this book because someone posted a photo of it on Instagram and I liked the cover. It has all the right ingredients: history, magic, time travel a magician... and it turned out to be everything I expected it to be. And the plot twist was incredible! I can‘t wait for the second one to come out.

Oh look, 2 more books I haven't read yet 🙄.

My daughter was a darling this morning. I found her reading in bed at 5.20am and she got up soon after.
We had a relaxed morning, no shoe lace trouble, and she even headed to school with the neighbours' kids. 🎉
