An older gentleman saw me coming back from our neighborhood Little Free Library, and, in fellow bookworm conversation, he recommended this book to me. Has anyone read it and the subsequent series that follows? It seems like a quaint little read so far.
Such a gentle book. It reminded me of the James Herriot series, but Father Tim is a preacher instead of a vet. I enjoyed it but it was slow going. I‘m not planning to read the next one.
“Sorrow and joy, he thought, so inextricably entwined that he could scarcely tell where one left off and the other began.”
“If you keep your eyes on Christians, you will be disappointed every day of your life. Your hope is to keep your eyes on Christ.”

The Mitford books have a #euphoric setting, nestled between mountains, with colorful families and friends—all the way to the #last one in the series

Perfect story with engaging characters centered around a small town pastor and his relationships (and sometimes mysteries to solve) ❤️
Finally reading this series! Day 6: #joyousjanuaryreadathon @Andrew65 #bookspinbingo @TheAromaofBooks
Small town novel with great characters, interspersed with peaceful and contemplative words from Scripture.
Lots of characters!! I am excited to read the entire Mitford series ~ a slow, leisurely, relaxing, join the “Mitford” community read. 💜💜
“Perhaps, he thought, we should all live as if we‘re dying.” ~ Father Tim

I can‘t do this challenge and not include this wonderful series. It‘s another that hubby and I both love. The first word that always comes to mind when I think of these stories is “gentle.” Although the newer books in the series are on our shelf, these now reside with @AmyG 😄 They are books to be shared, and I‘m glad I was able to pass them along to another Litten.
#20series20days Day 11
Father Tim books
The Mitford series are some of the most feel good books I've ever read. They put me in mind of the James Harriot novels. They share the same wholesome humor, quirky characters, small town charm, and sweet love story. They are excellent escapism when the world is in turmoil.

Day 5 #Top20Series #20Series20Days @Andrew65
There is something so relaxing and wholesome about this series. In it you follow Father Tim and other residents through the years in Mitford.
I bought this book because I liked the endpapers. I don‘t usually read Christian fiction but have decided to keep reading since it is always good to read something outside my usual range.
????
This was a reread for me. I was hoping to finish it last year, but things were so hectic and it took much longer than I expected, so it'll go towards this year's stats. I didn't enjoy it as much as I remember. And it was much "preachier" than I remembered. I still enjoyed the coziness of it, and it's very well written. I'd planned to reread the series to get caught up to where I left off. Not sure if I still want to do that though.
1. Actually at my son‘s house, the sofa by the window in their library.
2. Chocolate. Dark chocolate Hershey Kisses or Dove dark chocolate Promises, or York peppermint patties or 😄
3. Jan Karon
4. @Ambrosnazzy I know you‘re swamped, but come out and play😘

For a number of reasons, hubby and I have decided that we need to do some major bookcase clearing. Among those that we‘re letting go is the original Jan Karon Mitford series. First person to say they would like these may have them. US only, please, since I‘ll pay the postage. There will be some other books for #giveaway later.
“Perhaps, he thought, we should all live as if we‘re dying.” (P.139)
I‘m currently read this cozy little small town novel. It‘s the first in a long series and so far it‘s quite charming.
#BookNDinner! Accompaniment this cold and breezy night: roasted, seasoned chicken drumsticks; basmati rice; sweet corn; sparkling mineral water. MMMmmm 😋! This has been another presentation of: #MrBookBookBabeKitchen. Happy reads & happy eats! 😎👌🏻
#BookNDinner! (Second book of the year underway!) Accompaniment this gelid and windy evening was: filet mignon, yellow rice, broccoli florets, and sparkling mineral water. MMMmmm 😋! This has been another presentation of: #MrBookBookBabeKitchen. Happy reads & happy eats! 😎👌🏻
?"Surely one small bite couldn't hurt. He took the carrier out gingerly, as if trying to prevent an alarm from going off and announcing his indiscretion to the neighborhood. His hand shook as he snapped off the top and stood staring at what Esther Bolick had done in an act of innocent generosity. Then, without thinking about it any further, he cut a large slice, ate it standing over the sink”. #emojinov #nov??#cake
When I think of #orangecovers I think Penguin. These are all Karon, because they are shelved together, but I have Penguins all over the house. #riotgrams @bookriot
Who likes Jan Karon's books? I asked because I tried hers once and while it was ok, it didn't grip me like I wanted. However, sometimes that's because I've just read a really great book that left me with hangover. So, should I try one more time or no???
I picked this up while book shopping one day, thinking it would make a good #gift for my mom and planned to hang on to it until Christmas to give to her. On my next trip to my parents' house after I bought it, I found the very same book already on her bookshelf 😂 I guess it's mine now!

Easy, light-hearted with fun, goofy characters. Nice to read in between more intense books.
Is this a thing people do? I have never heard of anyone doing this... Maybe it's specific to a certain area?
It's finally that part of the day when I can relax with a book. ☺️📖 I'm so tired from work today though I'm not sure I'll be able to get very far.
I finally downloaded Bookout after seeing it constantly on here. I have to say this is so cool! I like how it shows the estimated time to finish the book. #blameitonlitsy
Also, I never thought a book like Mitford would be so enjoyable. Not much happens but somehow it's still interesting. So far it feels like a cross between Little Women and Stars Hollow.
#17booklove When I think #belovedcharacter, I think of a character who always makes me smile. Father Tim from the Mitford series fits the bill perfectly.
How can a book feel like family? All I know it's this one does! Here's a favorite passage, but there are loads more. I've read this book at least ten times, but I know I'll read it many more. 💝
Sometimes I need to hang out with old friends.
This score seems a little low to me but I think it's because I prefer to read using my Kindle, I do not belong to a book club, and I never go to the library. Still a fun quiz!!! 📚
My Saturday so far isn't horrible. 🤗 #HarryPotter weekend and a book series I have been wanting to read for years! Just started reading 📖 but my initial thought is that I love how easy and light it is.
I read the first few #Mitford books years ago when they first came out, and loved them then. I got nostalgic and wanted to finish the series. Since I couldn't remember where I left off in the series, I decided to start over again, listening to the audiobooks this time. :) They are narrated by John McDonough, and so well done. Words can't express how I love these books! #audible #audiobooks #JanKaron
#photoadaynov16 #setinasmalltown
The first book that came to mind was the first in the Mitford series.
I haven't read this one yet. Those who have, what did you think?
#photoadaynov16 I can think of lots of books set in small towns, but the first to come to mind are the Mitford books. I almost consider the town a character. And I love Blowing Rock, NC, the town Mitford is based on. #setinasmalltown
Just looking at the map of Mitford makes me smile. My husband calls this series "gentle books," and I think that's an apt description. #mapsinbooks #somethingforsept
For my #feelgoodbooks I'm choosing the Mitford series. It follows an older reverend who lives in a quirky small town that's the literary Stars Hollow. It's wholesome, funny, and relaxing.
