“Perhaps, he thought, we should all live as if we‘re dying.” (P.139)
Modern day slavery is a real issue that we must not be silent about.
I want to live the kind of life that is so overflowing with God‘s love that it leaks into the lives of others
I‘m currently reading this book for a Sociology class about Human Trafficking. Even though this book is difficult and heartbreaking, I think we must all read it to better understand modern slavery.
I loved the idea of this book since I have such a passion for helping victims of human trafficking, but this book contained an unnecessary amount of curse words and some of it was not accurate. Laukkanen said how buyers pay over 100,000 for a girl, which is just entirely false. The horrifying reality of modern slavery is that people are purchased for hardly anything because they are disposable.
This was an excellent read. Sepetys eloquently wove her readers into the heart of the characters and presented a unique twist on historical fiction from WWII. I highly recommend this book for all historical fiction lovers and those not afraid to become deeply connected to the characters.
