I finished this month‘s #LMPBC Poetry selection this morning. I‘m feeling very glad we picked this one. I‘d heard 2 of her spoken word poems before, but reading this was a completely new experience. She already has a strong voice for someone so young, and I closed this book already excited to see what her next one will look like. I‘ll mail this out later in the week.

Yesterday was a day of lovely #bookmail! This month‘s poetry #LMPBC book arrived along with my new (used) copy of Middlemarch for next month‘s #pemberlittens readalong. (I think part of me thought if I picked a copy that was physically smaller I wouldn‘t get overwhelmed.) I‘m super excited about both of these!

BarkingMadRead Middlemarch is so pretty!! 1y
IndoorDame @BarkingMadRead Macmillan Collectors Library is a very pretty, very inexpensive set of classics. Pocket sized, easy to find used or new. Some are illustrated (Middlemarch isn‘t). I owned one before (an Austen I think) and had trouble with the binding, so I‘ll have to be careful with this one and see if it was just that one book, or if that‘s why they‘re so inexpensive. 1y
Chrissyreadit Yay! I just ordered my copy of Middlemarch. Hoping I can keep up. And hope you like the poetry book! 1y

I think I might have liked these poems better if I had read them in print instead listening to the audio. The poems were read by the author, and I just wasn't crazy about her voice. Some of the poems were quite moving, though.

Hi @LoverofLit here is the set of books I curated for my nephew while he stays with us temporarily and decide what he wishes to do, truly, with his life. I mixed in a few graphic novels in the event that he gets too bored with too much text in the other narratives. :) I selected a few which I thought would be uniquely relevant to him given where he is at, but am hoping a few of these would resonate with your hubby, too. 😍😘🧚🏼‍♀️

LoverofLit Wow! @GatheringBooks Thank you so very much ❤❤ I'm so grateful for your kindness. 6y
GatheringBooks @LoverofLit absolutely no worries- i am a clinician (registered clinical psychologist) here in singapore, altho my day job is a teacher educator in the university. i have always talked about the significance and power of bibliotherapy, notwithstanding the lack of empirical evidence to back it up. but i always always use it for my own counseling and teaching practice. :) 😍🤗 6y
OrangeMooseReads The Color of Water is fantastic and wonderful 6y

I read good reviews about this book of poetry. And, I need more poetry in my life, so it‘s a win-win. I hope everyone had a relaxing weekend. 😊📚

Nute This is a nice collection. I think you‘ll like it. Are you just starting to read poetry? 6y
peacegypsy @Nute I‘m fairly new to contemporary poetry. I‘ve read a lot of the classics and American Indian poetry, but I‘m excited to branch out. You? 😊 6y
Nute I‘m pretty much in the same boat. Exploring contemporary poetry and trying to keep an open mind. It‘s definitely something to get use to or not. Some feel like words of a poet and some feel like confessions of emotions jotted on notebook paper and passed to your best friend in English period. It‘s gonna take awhile. I haven‘t given up. I‘ve selected several collections to read. We‘ll see. Keep me posted on your endeavor. 6y

Nothing quite compares to the feeling of love and support one gets when sharing a poem about mothers between three generations of women. #throwback to when my mum insisted on reading “B.” to my gran after I read it to her.

I can‘t say enough about Sarah Kay. Go watch her spoken word on YouTube, she‘s like a brilliant Disney Princess with her cute dresses and expressive face. I‘ve been reading so much poetry lately because Ive been trying to jumpstart my own creativity, get my own juices flowing, and I finally broke through after reading this collection. The poem “Hands” made me cry.

For #recommendsday, my new staff pick at work! In her debut collection, Kay unites the personal with the universal in a way that's both unexpected and breathtaking. Her poems sing with her sense of rhythm, language, and story.

Poetry before bed is my new favorite habit. This collection from Sarah Kay is beautiful and accessible (perfect to fall asleep with). Didn't mean to pick a title twin for my next read but I'm looking forward to Adrienne Rich as well!
