I've read one chapter and I'm all in. Lady pirates with jade handled pistols are so my thing.

The more I sit with this one the more i love it. So many little details to think about. A complete mindfuck of a book. The kind of story that leaves you with no answer except to start over and read again. Maybe you'll figure things out the next go around. But probably not. Fun, creepy, and wickedly obtuse.
Rad lady scientists. Glorious Saturdays.
I really enjoyed this first volume. Great witchy stuff with a strong dose of feminism. The artist changes every issue which can bother some, but I truly enjoyed every single art style. Will definitely continue the series.
My favorite book of the year so far. Set in Mexico City during 1988 and 2009. We follow Meche and her two best friends in a stunning coming of age story where music is literally magic. Something tears them apart until Meche's father dies and she has to return to Mexico City 20 years later. Great characters and relationships. Stunning, emotional turns. And an ending that made me actually hug the book.
Such a great book about a girl crossing the border into the US to find her brother. Yuri Herrera is a Mexican treasure and Lisa Dillman is an amazing translator. So happy to get my copy back in the mail today. Contemplating a re-read.
Honestly, if the book had stuck to its magical and mythological plot instead of the horrendously problematic romance, I might have fallen in love myself. Alas, such dreams we dream. I'm not panning because there were moments I enjoyed. Especially in the first half.
Nothing like a little dark side reading. Enjoyed the first volume of Darth Vader by Kieron Gillen. Some truly twisted moments and interesting new characters.
I thought about DNFing, tbh. Every story felt the same. Misery over and over again. Desperate, lonely people doing desperate, lonely things. But the final few stories did manage to rise above. Oh well. Onwards and upwards.
A heartbreaking and painfully honest graphic memoir about the death of his daughter. Tom Hart cuts himself open and bleeds on the page. A book I struggled to read as it hit very, very close to home. Important and powerful and highly recommended.
My first #bookofthemonth pick of 2017! Looking forward to these short stories and fulfilling my goal of reading the books that come into my house immediately. No more putting books on shelves and them ignoring them for years!
I loved this story so much! Elka was such a fantastically complicated character to follow through the Canadian post-apocalyptic forests. Page-turning, brutal, and thoughtful adventure, suspense novel that really nailed the landing. Another excellent book to start the new year!!
I'm loving this! Many have compared to The Road or True Grit, but I'm getting strong Wizard of Oz vibes.
Getting a full GG education before the Netflix revival. The app forces me to select a book. But this book isn't in the library or whatever. So next best choice, lol.
And it's true: everyone ignores a woman in labor. This was just the way babies got born. This was just the way women were hung, like meat, from hooks upon the wall.
I don't read a ton of contemporary YA. But I buddy read this with a friend and thought it was okay. I certainly don't regret reading it. Yoon's writing was beautifully subtle at times. The premise was interesting and the world was inclusive. The YA instalove trope actually made sense to me knowing the desperate place these two kids were in their lives. I didn't think the illnesses were handled with care, tho. And some plot points were farfetched.
Sunday afternoon reading. I loved the first few pages!
Starting today. Buddy read with best friend. Hopefully it's as good as everyone says. ☺
