Now I know why this has been recommended to me over and over by friends and strangers alike. I think this engaging and introspective novel is an allusion to the story of Jesus in the Bible and Ed Kennedy (the MC) to be a conflicted and reluctant Christ-figure (much like Harold Fry in The Unlikely Pilgrimage of HF-though he was more Pilgrim‘s Progress). I read it during an 8 hour road trip which made time fly! Book hangover!! 5/5⭐️ #LMPBC #GroupT

Readergrrl @Kimzey I just mailed it off to you. Sorry for delay, school just started and I‘ve been insanely busy. 🤪 2y
Readergrrl 1/2 I wanted to add that I think the beauty of this novel is that Ed is about as flawed as any of us, yet he manages to help so many people. He wasn‘t strong, or smart, or even particularly handsome, but he was human and grew in his capacity to empathize with others. This is what made him successful as a “messenger” in his ability to have faith in the message he carried. 2y
Readergrrl 2/2 As an atheist, I don‘t believe that Jesus was divine, but I do believe he was a real man, perhaps ordinary, but who‘s capacity to love made him extraordinary. If only more people would see that aspect of his humanity and know that we all have that capability. 2y

I just finished reading this one and wow! This was very beautiful! I highly enjoyed Ed's quest in being a messenger and touching people's lives. It had me wondering who was behind everything and had me anticipating each message. I am not so sure about the ending though. I don't think I fully understand it. 4.5⭐️

Hard to focus on my book when I'm being stared at.

Note: Ebony likes to place her bed between the living room and the office so she can keep an eye on me and my husband (who works remotely) at the same time.

A mixed bag for me. Balance of passages that were easy/difficult to read. The message is important, but the pay off to the mystery, the framework that sets the protagonist on his journey of good deeds and self-discovery is pretty weak. The will-they, won't-they with the love interest is kind of exhausting, and the protagonist's perspective on the teenage girl footracer is trying for platonic and objective but still feels creepy at times.

Robotswithpersonality P.S. I'm still willing to try the Book Thief as that's definitely what Zusak is known/praised for, and I'm willing to give an author a second chance. 2y

One day, Ed witnesses a pathetic bank robbery and stops the robber. Since that time, Ed begins to receive an Ace from the card deck with a list of people to give a message to. Each one is different from the next as Ed moves forward with these weird requests.

An enjoyable short novel written by the author of one of my favorite books.

Book 75

I listened to I Am the Messenger by Markus Zusak, the author of The Book Thief. It's funny, lighthearted, and poignant. From an anonymous source, the protagonist, Ed, receives playing cards. He must use the scant information written on them to determine who to help and how to help them. It's a feel-good, uplifting novel everyone should read. 4.5 stars

The first chapter is the absolute best chapter of this book; however, I still really enjoyed listening to this one! I know that if I were given some of the messages and tasks, I would have never been able to figure them out or complete them. A very interesting book! 80 points plus 10 for a book about best friends for #littenlisten plus it‘s letter #z for #litsyatoz

Last year, I read "The Book Thief" by Markus Zusak. Because I enjoyed that book so much and at the recommendation of a friend, I decided to pick this book up by the same author. I thoroughly enjoyed it. It had an interesting plot with some unpredictable twists and turns, some pleasant, some not so much, but they all came together to offer a beautiful ending. It was an easy and enjoyable read, "compulsively readable" as stated on the cover.

Ed Kennedy is a bit of a loser-an underachieving cab driver who stinks at cards and is hopelessly in love with his best friend Audrey. Shortly after he stops a bank robber the Aces start coming. And everything changes. I loved this! It was my #bookspin book for September @TheAromaofBooks

I loved this book and took my time reading it. The characters will drag you in, each one is a message that Ed Kennedy has to deliver, he has no clue as to who is giving him the Aces with clues for him to find. I have to say, I haven't read a book that I wanted to read slowly in a while.

This book had a very perfect start and a good enough ending! The word building was great and the narration was amazing. The premise was pretty interesting and I was very much intrigued to follow the lead throughout his journey with the cards and clues but somehow in the middle of the story, I felt the pace slow down and it took a great deal of patience from me to complete the book. The author is still my fav

There's not much I can say without giving away details but I will say that if you feel like you're worthless or you need a self confidence boost or a reality check I recommend reading this book. At first, I felt hopeless reading this book, then I realized the whole point. We can bring comfort and happiness by simple acts of kindness. But we first have to pay attention to the people around us. We have to notice their pains and struggles. We have to prioritize the health of humanity over our selfish perceptions and ways that we disagree. We need to treat others like they're important, and we need to help one another. Even in simple ways.

The plot was violent and I‘m not a huge fan of that, but the dog. The dog. I fell in love with the dog. He was a minor character but I also enjoyed the main character and his struggle. Overall I really like Zuzak‘s sweetness as a writer-the love he has for his flawed characters.
