#21: Read a queer retelling of a classic of the canon, fairytale, folklore, or myth
Almost done with the challenge! As this well-loved copy of the book shows, this book is always worth a reread.

#15: Read a new-to-you literary magazine
Loved this recommendation, and happy that this one mails a physical copy (+ tote bag!) in addition to the e-mag. Fun way to hear from local emerging voices not picked up by the mainstream.

#22: Read a history about a period you know little about
I was not taught any of this in school (homeschooled by conservatives) so although I‘ve been educated since then, this book put everything in clear perspective. I do wish it had additional chapters for 21st century events but it had a handy list of suggested reads at the end to keep learning.

#23: Read a book by a disabled author
This is a hard book to rate! It has an important message and the author‘s bubbly outlook and introspection came across strongly. On the other hand, the essays were repetitive and seemed to miss having a point or topic, maybe just needed a different editor.

#24: Pick a challenge from any of the previous years‘ challenges to repeat, I picked “Read a Book set within 100 miles of your location”
I‘m right next to Green Lake, Seattle! Set in the 1950‘s, this short novel explores a forbidden romance during the Seattle Seafair summer festival.

#4: Read a book in any genre by a POC that‘s about joy and not trauma
💕 Cute, joyful story about love, swoony main characters who were polite, smart, and nice the whole way through. I need to read more from this author!

#13: Read an adventure story by a BIPOC author
4/5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Had an absolute blast playing “Book Bingo” this summer courtesy of the Seattle Public Library and SAL! Although I *never* win any raffles, maybe this is my lucky year! 👀👀
Gift idea! 🚨 🚨 🚨 I miss traveling so much and thought it would be too sad to look through travel books, but this dreamy coffee table atlas will just make you smile! It‘s uniquely organized and the colorful photos are amazing but it also has some great travel tips for each location.
Diving into this one tonight and having... mixed feelings? I love the writing and introspection but I feel like we have so much farther to go. Super interested to hear your thoughts if you‘ve also picked this up in these times!
I totally forgot I had pre-ordered this and it showed up this week! Excited to try some of the cookies for the holidays but the other stuff looks way too advanced for my baking skills 🍪
Well hello there 👋🏼
It‘s been two years since I posted! I‘ve had some pretty tumultuous changes, most recently packing everything up, books and cat and all, and moving to Seattle for a brand new start!
Am I the only one who feels like reading books and taking inspiration from characters gives me the real-life courage to make change?
Happy “Christmas Eve” Eve! 🎄Peppermint tea, rom-com book, and rom-com Netflix for a cozy evening.
Just realized both of my book clubs meet next week...and I haven‘t started reading either. Is that a good enough excuse to call in sick at work? 😏
Finally journeling my November reads. Theme: “Do you want to cry all month? Because this is how you cry all month.”
Best read (most likely to re-read): The Great Believers
Ms Ribby gives this book 5 stars for being the perfect thickness to rub your face against. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Somedays you‘re sick and need a comforting read, cup of tea, and face mask and there‘s no one better to keep you company than Jennifer Weiner. Not winning any awards here, but EXACTLY what the doctor ordered.
Poignant story of four..well, I wouldn‘t call them friends...connected through their music and followed throughout their lives to see if they can change or grow or escape their backgrounds. A little glimpse into the world of classical music artists. Reminded me of The Interestings and A Little Life (but not depressing).
Hi littens... I feel it‘s been a while since we‘ve caught up! I miss being more active. Who are some fun new accounts to follow and friends to meet on here!?
PS I‘m having a shitty day, so I like reading thorough books about people going through worse. Like, lying, being terrible as your job, losing all your friends, and getting caught. (Give me all your depressing book recommendations plz!)
Birthday weekend Day 1: take the day off to sit by the pool and read a book and get terrified of sharks 🦈
Reading: Ta-Nehisi Coates
Drinking: Rosé
Magazine: for when I want to cry or scream and need a breather
A colorful new Meg Wolitzer is exactly what the Monday blues need...
Enjoying getting “lost” with these brave girls for my after-work reading 🌲🌲🌲🌚
Totally hooked on this so far!
🌟January books! 🌟 So this is a much smaller number than usual as I kept to some New Years resolutions! 1) Only one book at a time and 2) Only real copies, no e-books. It was great - I read slower, enjoyed more, and didn‘t feel pressure to keep up or lose attention span. Winner of the month: ☝🏼Absalom! Absalom!
This book should have been up my alley - my lists are full of terrible things happening to good people. But this wasn‘t trying to say anything- it was disturbing and graphic simply for the sake of being disturbing and graphic, without any redemption or bigger ideas.
And to be picky about the writing style, I couldn‘t get a mental picture of the garden‘s spatial layout the way it was described.
I would pass on this one.
Incredibly important story, even if you‘re not interested in college athletics.
This is 90% books...
All packed and ready to welcome the New Years in the Bahamas! Excited to make a huge dent in my TBR by sitting on the beach getting some sun!

After reading People‘s History, book club needs to make a fiction pick! What to choose?? 🤔🤔🤔
Have any of y‘all tried Capsule Books subscription? I just saw a post on IG this morning, and I‘ve been unhappy with BOTM lately so I‘m intrigued. Would love to hear from people who have checked it out already! 📖
Overwhelmed? Can‘t stop thinking about how you came across in that last email? Still feeling guilty about forgetting to send that happy birthday text? This book changed all that for my type A spiraling! Tiffany “reclaims” the phrase “drop the ball” to focus on what‘s ACTUALLY important for your #1 goal. I was lucky enough to hear her speak, and this book is just as fantastic as she is live! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Litsy is great, but I still need a written note for my books every month! This journal goes back to 2014, and it‘s so fun to see what I was reading each year, and I don‘t forget anything that needs a re-read! October‘s “winner” was definitely The Heart‘s Invisible Furies. 💕
I fully intended to buy the candy only for trick-or-treaters 😬 Not normally a mystery person, but this one sounded perfect for a cozy evening in.
Sunday evening reading... trying not to think about Monday.
Raise your hand if you‘re ready for some spoooooooky books for October! 🙋🏼 (Can you tell this is my favorite season yet?)
