Library sale book haul from last week!
So excited to find the whole Broken Earth and Winners trilogy.
Finally got through this one, after having to request from the library twice. It was good, but I wanted it to be phenomenal. Also, Addie kinda sucks. For someone who has been around for hundreds of years, boy is she dull. Other that her resolve to resist and annoying Luke, she's mostly one dimensional. I'm more interested in what the next book will be like honestly, it was left on an intriguing cliffhanger.
This feels more like You: The Gay Version, than a love story.
Everytime Elio does something or thinks about Oliver, its like 2 sentences short of him wanting to wear this guys skin and eating his liver, so they can be one. For a story that is supposed to be about passion, lust, and love, there is little of that feeling in the sex scenes or any of their interaction.
I really wanted to like this, I still plan to watch the movie.
So, I am halfway through and...I'm not loving it. Its good but i just don't give a fuck about the charaters. There are some world buling elements that I love.
Does the series get better? Will I feel more?
Its super hard to keep everyone straight. I feel like the stakes are high, for what reason we aren't really sure. The magic system isn't explained, which would be fine if there wasn't the melded past and present feel making it hard to figure out what is going on. There are space ships, but everyone is using swords and there aren't any cell or computer devices (I think?). Not a lot of necromancy weirdly. Yet, I want to read the sequel?
Writing was mediocre, buts its not like I was expecting much. The romance was blah. Sex scenes were not hot, I laughed out loud a couple times. Also, him calling her 'baby girl' was so cringy, especially before they had anything going on. At one point she said something about her excitment was a over excited koala dancing on her bladder or something. I don't remember the quote, because i already returned this and I can't be bothered to look it up
I was so bored. The writing is nice, but nothing happens.
Circe is a dull, she is more or less a spoiled rich girl that no one wants to deal with, so they stick her on an island, that should be like a mythology chick version of the land of Misfit Toys, but instead its meek abused lady island. She beds just about every dude that comes to her home. Cool...I guess? Nothing fun happens. Even when she falls in love its not compelling or interesting.
BOOK BARN IN NIANTIC, CT.
Four stores with in a couple miles of eachother. Each one houses different genres. One is outdoors (they have goats!), another has a kitty couch room. One is filled with kids books. Its amazing. Stupid cheap prices, the trade paperbacks were a buck. The others were 4-5 dollars, the YA books were brand new.
This haul was from last year. I can wait to go again this year.
1. I have a couple going.
Audiobooks- Cut and Run by Madeleine Urban & Circe by Madeline Miller.
Book - Lord of the White Hell by Ginn Hale.
Kindle - Destiny of Dragons by TJ Klune (I've been reading this for a year, I'm gonna get through it. I refuse to give up)
2. To All The Boys I've Loved Before. Movie on netflix is superior, dont bother with the book.
3. GOOD OMENS! Watchmen. His Dark Materials.
#weekendreads @rachelsbrittain
1. Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. Didnt read this in highschool. I didnt have a lot of required reading.
2. Purple with a light gray sweater
3. Killing Eve and Santa Clarita Diet. Both were good!
4. Dragons? That seems generic, lol. Whatever Niffler is?
#friyayintro @JessReads
Tropey, but done so well. The banter was so good! I could give a fuck about the royals or most politics. But this was like the West Wing and Poitical Animals had a baby, but without all the drugs and drama. Ive had a bad run of contemporary reads - I mostly dislike them. But this was awesome and cute.
I feel like Im reviewing this poorly, lol.
Read it, its cute.
I really enjoyed this. Interesting characters and plot. Definitely going to keep going with the series. It does suffer a bit with some shallow storytelling and a little of instalove, but I feel like as the series goes on, we will see these this fleshed out a bit more.
Also, why are there like 264 different covers for this book?
This was just not as compelling as Evelyn Hugo, very generic in some places. Coked out girl makes it big, falls for band mate, marries prince while on an emotional bender (okay, the prince part was unique, maybe), someone dies, everyone is shook.
The characters felt real. Like I was reading about a real band, that created some awesome music in the 70's, but it also felt like I was reading about Fleetwood Mac/Janis Joplin - The Redeux
1. I hated - A Court of Thorns and Roses, The Grisha and Unravel Me Trologies. There. I said it, fight me.
2. Salty, but would prefer both in the same snack.
3. Mike and Espie.
4. Beauty and the Beast, Bambi
5. Scottsdale, AZ. I know. Not that exciting, but ove been there and had a good time. Plus, its a couple hours away from a bunch of fun stuff in multiple directions. Or New York, to eat steak and go to bookstores.

This was really great. If you have any interest in The Golden Age of Hollywood, this is for you. Although Evelyn's story is fictitious, the narrative is a mish mash of Hollywood's real scandals and cover ups and life back then. I will definitly reread in the future.
1. Phineas in a BookOutlet box. I bought waaay too many books this past year.
2. 75 books! More off my TBR. Do a reading marathon. Finish the series I have going. Work down my TBR.
3. I broke up with my girlfriend - Can be used for both answers.
4. Read more, be happy, and more crafting.
5. Kings of the Wyld by Nicholas Eames

Guess I'm having wonton soup for dinner now. :)
Plesantly surprised at how much I liked this. The mix of fantasy and scifi was neat. I cant wait for the next book, maybe she will get more fun chraters at the her inn!
I didnt love the narrator though. She was wonderful, dont get me wrong. I just didnt love her accent. It reminded me of Holly Hunter, that tiny southrn lisp, its grating to me. But other than that delightful!
First off - I love listening to biographies, especially when read by the author.
This was a pleasure to read. Trevor is funny, he is really good with accents and just seems like a really down to earth guy. Im going to be honest, I dont know a lot about South Africa or its various cultures, so this was really information and definitely eye opening. Will definitly re-listen too in the future!

Okay, I definitely didnt hate it. Its a good space opera. The characters were all mostly dicks, which I enjoy, but he failed at making me root for them in some way. It just wasnt the most engaging political intuige story ever, but shit is starting to go down at the end of the book, so maybe it will get better in the 2nd. Definitly will pick up book two at somepoint, I might try to wait for an audible sale.

#RRSciFiMonth Day 16 - Sonic Screwdrivers or Hoverboards. Not a book gadget, but Ive always wanted a Tricorder. Mostly because Bones was my favorite.

#RRSciFiMonth Day 14 Explore new worlds. 39' of of Night at the Opera by Queen. The song relates the tale of a group of space explorers who embark on what is, from their perspective, a year-long voyage. Upon their return, however, they realise that a hundred years have passed, because of the time dilation effect in Einstein's special theory of relativity, and the loved ones they left behind are now all dead or aged. Written and sung by Brian May.
#RRSciFiMonth Day 14 - Alien antagonist. Well, I guess he's kinda the protagonist too...so both?
#shitistillhaventread #scifi
#RRSciFiMonth Day 13 - Best Ship in the Galaxy, kid.
Bob is all the ships. All hail Bob. These were good, got a little dragged put at the end, but the concept was cool.

This is between a Pick and So-So. While still entertaining, without the crew from the first book its a little dissaponteding. I feel like we are ramping up to something? Some of the characters are related to those on the Wayfarer, but like thats it. We are just getting glimpses of them. Is everything going to be connected or is it just we learn about other people and thats it? Its kinda meandering along.
1. WALL-E - I dragged my sick mother to the opening midnight showing, because I knew it was going to be my favorite thing ever.
2. No, but I would like too.
3. World War Z. It would have been a fine movie, its just not anything like the book.
4. Making muffins, visiting a friend, and gaming/reading

#RRSciFiMonth Day 8 - Can't wait to read. The Passage! But it's so much book, its intimidating.

#RRSciFiMonth Day 7 - Dream a little bigger, darling. I was going to post a book, but honestly the most dream related things I have read have been A/E fan fic.

#RRSciFiMonth Day 6 - Race you there. Racing space ships, that's all I know about this book. It's in my TBR.

2. 6-7ish which was great!
3. Dark with somekind of nut butter
4. I say I'm going to do it every 6-8 weeks and then 6 months goes by...
5. It was really good, tropey but fun. Reccomend if you like D&D/Fantasy

#RRSciFiMonth Day 4 - Fave SF Series. These are the only "calming" books I've ever read. I just want to relax and explore the story. Likable characters and world bulding really makes it.
