Volumes 7 and 8 were good additions to the series. I love the stuff Staples and Vaughan do with diversity; sometimes it's a little heavy-handed, but usually they get it right. Petrichor is my favourite member of the present supporting cast, though Ghüs definitely has his moments.
There's another 3 of these collected volumes, which I might be able to pick up from the library later in the year.

I've forgotten most of what happened in the previous five books, so having a time-jump and a bit of a reset was good.
I've got Volumes Seven and Eight, so hopefully that'll help me keep the continuity straight!

800 pages of Thorgil Thorgilsson pirating around, forming blood feuds, exchanging giant rings and gilded swords, and "discovering" Canada. Did you know Vikings named it Greenland as a marketing tactic? So more Norsemen would want to move to that desolate place and keep them company.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Alana struggles. The war rages on. Hazel‘s narration is incredible as always and the artwork draws you wholly into the story. So timely, so vibrant.

I wanted to read this because of all that was said about it in Mary Rubio's bio of LM Montgomery. The critics in the late 1920s said Jalna was an example of the way forward for Canadian literature, with Montgomery's books being relegated to children's books exclusively. I started this with a feeling of loyalty towards LMM and wanted to hate it, but I didn't. It had some moments/lines that didn't age well, but that's true for most books from 1927.
