Funny! Only a little too meta at the end. Definitely a reminder that main character energy is bad for your health and the health of those around you. There's an "aw-shucks" vibe to all of Scalzi's main characters that I'm beginning to grow tired of, however. #LitsySciFiBookClub

Ruthiella Agree that it got too meta in the last part. But until then, it was so much fun. I loved the “Lower Decks” feel it had, in particular. 4d
Larkken @Ruthiella I still need to watch that!! But then this book has been on my tbr for five years and I only just read it, so there‘s always hope! 2d

I wanted to love this, I really did. Having had no cable📺 until after I was 12, there was a lot of TNG to go around🛸 I‘m was & an a fan of Stewart‘s acting however this, for me was a dud. #HailTheBail at 30%

wanderinglynn Same. I DNF‘d it too. So disappointing. 1w

Ensign Dahl is newly assigned to the starship Intrepid. When he gets there, he learns that ensigns die on away missions. A lot. What he discovers will change everything about his world.

This was so meta, I strained my eyes rolling them. I also laughed harder than I have in a while, so 🤷🏼‍♀️. This poked loving fun at sci fi tv, but also turned into a moving story about taking control of your own destiny. The codas did feel unnecessary.🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑

08/100 Imagine Star Trek filtered through Douglas Adams, with a splash of Gilbert & Sullivan, an a huge dollop of the misunderstanding tropes from Three's Company. That's what this book was, the worst kind of slapstick silliness, it even has a pie fight between the Federation and the Klingons!! Amazing that this tripe comes from an author as good as John M. Ford. 2 ⭐⭐

MemoirsForMe Oh my! Glad I missed this one. 🤭🙄 1w
TheSpineView Great job for powering through. May the next one be better. 1w
RamsFan1963 @MemoirsForMe The more I read I kept thinking, this is what Star Trek would be like if Jack Tripper was the captain, and sure enough there a scene where Kirk is caught with the wrong woman in his arms, cue the audience laugh track!! 1w

Welcome to #MentalHealthMonday! What are you doing today to take care of your mental health? So far I've watched Star Trek with friends & spent time with my husband. I'm about to excercise & maybe take a nap. Taking care of our mental health will be vital in the coming weeks, months, & beyond. We still live in an "f your feelings" society & it's likely to get worse. Making mental health a priority is one way to fight back.

Megabooks I did not watch the inauguration and stayed on social media only for fun things like books. No doom scrolling! I also took a nap. 1w
Librarybelle I‘ve read all day, after shoveling snow from the storm my area received yesterday. 1w
Kerrbearlib @Megabooks sounds like a lovely day! No doom scrolling is a great idea! Thank you for sharing! (edited) 1w

Kerrbearlib @Librarybelle we got snow here, too. That‘s great that you read all day after shoveling. Thank you for sharing! 1w
DebinHawaii I‘m at work (at home) today & trying to stay off any media or social media besides Litsy. Also trying to keep hydrated & eat well/healthy. I did not do a good job sleeping last night so I may try for 30 minutes of napping at lunch. Tonight I‘m going to keep staying away from news & social media & try to relax & do something artsy-craftsy & go to bed early because I have an early flight tomorrow. 1w
TheBookHippie I made a post. We are snowed in -probably for the week. No tv socials or news.. nope. 1w
Sace What a much needed hashtag/weekly event. I spent the day on Litsy, listening to One Fell Sweep on audio, redoing a reading journal page, writing some letters, listening to Vince Guaraldi, hanging with hubby and reading. I‘ve got two snow days ahead of me so I‘ll just repeat today‘s activities until the “snow” clears up (it we even get the expected 2”….don‘t laugh. Snow is serious business in AL 🤣) 1w
Kerrbearlib @TheBookHippie very wise with no TV socials or news. Stay safe with the snow! 1w
Kerrbearlib @DebinHawaii have a good flight tomorrow! I didn't sleep well last night either. Good for you for hydrating and eating healthy, very important for physical and mental health! 1w
Kerrbearlib @Sace sounds like a great day! That's very cool that you're writing some letters! I've decided I'm going to start having pen-pals again and writing more letters. We got snow here too in Maine, but it was a bit more lol. I stacked One Fell Sweep! 1w
Sace @Kerrbearlib it‘s the third in the series. The first on is Clean Sweep, but honestly the author usually does a lot of review and I‘m willing to bet the books 1-3 could be read out of order without too much confusion. 1w
CatLass007 No inauguration watching yesterday. My TV died sometime last year and I don‘t even know when because I barely watched it. Books are a bajillion times better. I did look at the news very briefly and saw the list of people pardoned by President Biden, and I saw that a Democrat finally had the balls to do something about Leonard Peltier. Peltier was framed for murdering two FBI agents and has been imprisoned for 50 years. He never (cont)⬇️ 1w
CatLass007 should‘ve been convicted. I remember that Bill Clinton considered a pardon but a bunch of FBI agents went on a one-day strike and he caved. Okay I‘m celebrating, not ranting! 1w
CatLass007 Do you have a tag list for #MentalHealthMonday? If so, please add me to your list. 1w
Kerrbearlib @CatLass007 I am creating one, yes! Adding you to the list ♥️ 1w
CatLass007 Thank you!! 1w
Kerrbearlib @CatLass007 you‘re welcome! Thank you for sharing about your day BTW and mentioning Leonard Peltier. I didn‘t know his story until now. I agree with everything you said. 1w
CatLass007 @Sace I‘ve enjoyed Ilona Andrews‘s Inkeeper Chronicles, I think I‘ve enjoyed everything they‘ve written. Did you listen to the single narrator (my preference) or to the Graphic Audio version? (edited) 1w
Sace @CatLass007 I‘m doing the graphic audio. It‘s so good! Luckily my library has a lot of them. 1w

Mehso-so

(1981) The Enterprise is called to the planet Alnath, into a situation involving a mysterious archaeological dig, a Klingon dreadnought in orbit, and a shipful of dead Vulcan scientists. Shortly after arrival, the crew begins acting in out-of-character, impulsive ways. The story's okay, except for bits that haven't aged well (though Kirk and Scotty admiring a junior officer's ass must have already been a little cringey even in 1981, surely)

Megabooks I read these all the time in the 1990s. Love seeing it here even if it wasn't the best one. 2w

The Officers' Mess of the starship USS Enterprise was a small, rather cozy room, with comfortable chairs, moderately bright lighting, and a food-service wall with four delivery slots, no waiting.

I'm watching Star Trek VI with friends on Monday. I love Grace Lee Whitney in that film.
