Iris Origo writes this for herself, not for publication, in the years 1939-40, living in Italy and married to an Italian, but of British and American parentage she has a unique perspective on the war brewing in Europe. So well written that after finishing it, before writing this, I went online and ordered two more (tagged in comments.) I could do worse than take her as a model for how to get through the next regime. #LitsyAtoZ #letterC @Texreader

Lcsmcat If you‘re not conversant (as I am not) in the details of the beginnings of WWII, or early 20th century Italian politics, prepare to do some Googling. She wrote this for herself so people and events aren‘t always explained. 2d

This one is a low pick for me. I liked the characters put the plot was just so off the rails I couldn't get totally invested in the story. I've said this numerous times, I prefer characters and plots are at least plausible, if not, then the writing must be of such quality as to make up for the short comings. 3ish Stars
I doubt I will read the other books in the series. #SeriesLove2025 @Andrew65 #REad2025 @DieAReader #LitsyLoveReads

The ending! I‘m really making myself wait a little bit to read the 3rd book because I‘m seriously hooked.

The Christmas Thief: A Novel | Mary Higgins Clark, Carol Higgins Clark

What happens if the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree gets stolen? When MH Clark heard this idea, she decided to write a book about it and by golly if she didn‘t pull it off in a most excellent way! Really, how is such a plot plausible? If it is stolen the night before it‘s to be cut down. And why would someone want to do that? Well, that‘s the complex plot the Clarks wrote. And it works. Lots of characters and twists and turns. I loved it! ⬇️

This one is a soft pick for me. While it is cute, I was just lukewarm about it. The story needed a bit more punch and the characters more depth. I get this sometimes with novellas, not enough time to give me the development I crave. 3 ⭐

I enjoyed this mystery, typical of Christie's English country-house stories but not featuring any of her famous detectives.

A Christmas Carol | Charles Dickens

I was afraid of reading Dickens again, having read and not understood A Tale of Two Cities in 9th grade. But a few years ago I finally picked up A Christmas Carol and my world was forever changed by this introduction above. I roared with laughter (and still do each Christmas) and realized Dickens is a brilliant and hilarious writer.

If you have the same fears, I hope the above quote convince you otherwise. @Cuilin and I hosted reading David ⬇️

I needed a smaller book to carry around for the next few days, rather than the massive but beautiful Christmas tome of Dickens‘ stories. So I have this little book for the next couple of days so I can enjoy the best of Dickens!!

I‘ll also be listening to it while doing chores getting ready for the big day! #littenlisten @aperfectmjk
