What are the odds that #Finland is your country on my b-day month?! I love that.

I baked today Finnish cinnamon rolls (korvapuusti) and Finnish Archipelago Bread (saaristolaisleipä). Finnish cinnamon rolls are something that my grandmother always baked and when I was sick, she came and took care of me and she baked with me. They are THE buns to me, I love cinnamon so much.

Last Sunday, I made salmon soup (very comforting) with rye crackers (probably thinner & browner than in the instructions, but when still warm from the oven, they're nicer than shop-bought ones) and rossoli, a beetroot, cooked carrot and potato salad that apparently is a Christmas staple (SO's judgment was “very German and quite nice“ 😏 😂)

This is an oddly entertaining and satisfying murder mystery—the victim performing his own investigation to find his murderer while trying to save his organic mushroom business against a fierce competitor in this quiet Finnish hamlet. Jaakko has been poisoned over a long period of time such that he became used to it while it damaged all of his internal organs. He‘s on borrowed time. And does he ever make use of it. There are only two suspects ⬇️

Another Finnish graphic work, this time about the author's grandmother. She tells her grandson about her life and her family in 20th-century #Finland - and then writes it down because he never stays long enough to hear all, despite all the coffee and pastries she serves him...
Clearly, they had a hard, hand-to-mouth life for quite a long time. This is quite a bittersweet book.

Tonight I tried making “PANNU KAKKU (FINNISH OVEN PANCAKE)” for #Finland for #foodandlit. It was ummm, good, but very sweet. Maybe not the best breakfast-for-dinner plan. So we ordered pizza. We will try the remaining Finnish sweets I ordered another day while we all recover from the sugar high here. @Catsandbooks
