A short but poignant novel set partly during the Christmas season. I love the #VMC covers and was happy to have found this edition at a used book store.

I hope everyone had a Merry Xmas ♥️💚As you can tell, I‘m back from my SM break & while I‘m still not 100% I am doing better. Plus I missed you all! I‘ll be launching my #JumpStart2025 challenge so all of us can start the year right coz I just did a home library organisation where my daughter & I found I had 3,000 books on my #MountTBRShelvesOfDoom😱 I am now banned from buying books till that‘s smaller🫣Any suggestions on other 2025 challenges?

My 2025 list for #Roll100! I‘m looking forward to focusing more on reading what I already own this year so instead of doing a half and half list like last year (fifty of the spaces were just supposed to be the next book in a series I was reading), I filled my list completely with actual titles that I chose from my shelves.

I‘m hoping many of these fit the prompts for #FrozenSick but I haven‘t looked ahead because I want to be surprised. 😅

Molly is your average 15-year-old, wanting to join a band, live under the radar at school, & being totally embarrassed by her parents being 'The Rocking Stockings' a Christmas band. Back when Molly was just a small child & her parents were known as the 'Brussel Shouts', they made a Christmas record called 'Love Your Elf' & Molly starred as 'Little Elf Girl'. This looked a promising thriller in the synopsis & I really enjoyed books set in/on isolated areas. I found this one a little underwhelming though. Although the idea is good, the POVs for Dee & Tori were not differentiated enough by their characters, & I had to keep checking who was narrating a particular chapter as it could have been either. This penultimate (for now) book in the series examines the dark side of....Morris dancing. Yes the traditionally twee pastime involving dressing in a costume, with bells, & banging wooden sticks together! I might have been more incredulous had I not read a book earlier this year (or last year) about the old practice of wassailing & its more sinister side.

In this Inspector Alleyn mystery, Alleyn investigates a grisly murder that happens during the performance of a ritual English folk dance and mummer's play to celebrate the Winter Solstice.

I'm using this for my final prompt of #52bookclub24, “Set during a holiday you don't celebrate,“ and with this, I've completed my 2024 challenge!
