The story started off slow. I found it a bit odd from the beginning that a friend that was so "likeable" had random friends pulled together for her "hen". It definitely picked up, half way through, and I didn't see the end coming!

I loved it - especially Nina. Such an unusual thriller that was completely hypnotising, I couldn't put it down.

Nora hasn't seen or heard from her childhood best friend in 10 years. Out of the blue, she is invited on her hen do to a remote cottage where tension builds up and something goes horribly wrong.

Full of twists, lies, and unnerving characters. The perfect eerie thriller.

I did enjoy the story and I read it pretty quickly but mostly because I just wanted to know what was going to happen. The story did draw me in but I felt like it took a really long time to go somewhere exciting. It was not scary and it was kind of came off as a cliche typical lifetime movie. I probably would like this better as a movie which is never the case! Definitely not a keeper to stay on the bookshelf but worth the one time read.

Ok I‘ve had a bumpy relationship w Ruth Ware. I liked one of two of her books in a way that made me wanna read more. The last one I read, I remember taking issue w the narrator. Imogen is good, but she sounds the absolute same in every Ware novel (I dno if this was an active choice by the author/producer or if thats all she‘s got). In addition, all characters in Wares stories are the same. If you stick to one or two books that‘s ok, but….cont:

Nalbuque But if you read more of her stories (which are good!), you‘re signing up to be annoyed. All the protagonists are weak martyrs obsessed w the past. They‘re push overs who will complain abt everything and do nothing. Choose your Ruth Wares cautiously and if you‘re tempted to keep reading her, don‘t 🤷🏽‍♀️ 1y

Weak pick for this #aam selection. I don‘t like to downgrade books just because I guessed the ending, and Ware did successfully set up a suspenseful tale that had me compulsively turning pages. That said … the mystery depended on the MC failing to notice a detail that, given what we learn about her character during the book, she would never, ever have missed. A bit disappointing, but the writing was good enough that I‘d try another from Ware.

paper.reveries Grrr those character loop holes are frustrating! 1y

I liked it! I mean, a couple things about the book seemed a little out there. I would never go to my ex‘s fiancés‘hen‘ weekend no matter if she was an old friend, relative etc., and I wanted to tell her to run, something bad is going to happen if you go! Lol

2nd book read for #AuthorAMonth @Soubhiville
Book published in 2015 but I read You‘re Invited, Shiver and Unwanted Guest that are very similar, specially You‘re Invited.
Leonora, Nora, is invited to Clare‘s Hen Night (first time I heard this activity-so curious☺️) she decided to go with her friend Nina. But Clare hasn‘t seen Clare since 10 years ago. Why she was invited? What happened between Clare and Nora? ⬇️

Gissy (Cont.) As the title indicates, the Hen Party would be held in an isolated cabin surrounded by a dark dark wood, 6 persons including the host and the activity coordinator. Then a murder occurred as expected in a thriller.
There are some unrealistic situations in my opinion. One character is so annoying and unstable that I would do the same thing Melanie did. Predictable twists. But I liked how the atmosphere was described. 3.5/3.7⭐️

Read for #aam
I find Ware‘s books to be generally engaging and suspenseful reads, and this was no different. I think The Death of Mrs Westaway might be a better constructed mystery, and maybe less shallow than this novel, but maybe that‘s just bc DoMW had a well-done Du Maurier vibe that I liked?
The It Girl just got to me from the library, so I may listen to that one for this month, too!

johncadams I do like a good Du Maurier vibe. 2y

Rating: 4.5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐
This was only the 2nd Novel ive read by Ruth Ware so i kind of knew what to expect even tho each of her books is different from the last. This one reminded me alot of "Friends Life These" by Kimberly McCreight but an older adult version. The Characters were so interesting to read about.

It was an okay book, a good mystery. But that's pretty much it. I figured out who it was pretty quickly, and I just thought there wasn't enough. Most of the book is just her upset over the fact she cant remember anything. Just pages and pages of wishing she could remember had me just saying, come on with it! 2.5/5

I almost bailed on this one (& I NEVER DNF). The whole premise just lost me from the very start. Nora gets invited to a weekend-long bachelorette party for someone she hasn‘t seen or spoken to in a decade…who has a known mean streak…AND Nora isn‘t even INVITED to the wedding. And she just, like, GOES!!!?!!!??? My introverted, socially anxious self doesn‘t buy it.
The only reason I finished was my morbid need to know what happened.

This was a page turner, and perfect for the season! My first Ruth Ware, and there are two more waiting on my shelves. All the action takes place at a “hen” (which seems to be the same as a bachelorette party for the bride-to-be) in a large, modern home in the woods of England, surrounded by glass. What happens is sinister. The ending was not strong for me.

This audiobook only took me 1 1/2 days to finish. I keep saying “it was so good” but it was sooo good! The narrator was amazing. The suspense just built up and built up, then the mystery took hold and blew my mind. It reminded me of “And Then There Were None” which was even referenced in the book. Had a better ending though. #NotSoScaryAthon #FallIntoReading #BUZZWORDATHON #BookSpinBingo #24 #115
