They have this great back n forth dynamic, each having their moments together, some highlighting their flaws and others in acceptance of their growing dynamic as they keep coming together time and time again and I can't help but fall for it every time.
Once that first rush of "this one" is in the page, I'm there for that. ?

So, something like a decade or more ago I decided to give romance novels a try, after being convinced for years that they Weren't For Me. This is the book I read then and it remains a knock out all these years later. I don't know if I could have stumbled into a more perfect starter book - I love the leads, I love their friends, I love the way this large group of people come together to care for each other. It's lovely down to its bones.

Wow, Min getting upset about how bad something is going to hurt before it happens is Entirely Too Relatable

Definitely forgot that this book has an accidental date to Big Trouble in Little China! Somehow this book has become more for me in the intervening years.

This is definitely my new favorite by Jennifer Crusie. I loved the storyline and all of the characters. It felt like I was watching my favorite rom com. Predictable, but awesome all the same. The ending was perfect and I really enjoyed everything about this one. Definitely a great pick me up!

I asked my friend if she had a favorite book. She gave me Bet Me. It was fun. The cat is the best! I made a playlist with all the songs in the book and we baked a bookish cake.

I was on a historical romance kick and I needed a palate cleanser. Everyone speaks highly of this author and especially this book in particular, but it didn't work me. It wasn't badly written — I just didn't love the heroine and her weird shoes. Every time I read a description of her latest pair of shoes, I'd grimace and get pulled out of the story.

I just haven't been able to find a contemporary romance I like! I'll keep trying...

Published in 2004 and it still hold up.
It‘s the banter and the pace. Jennifer Cruise writes a full story where the romance is real and it‘s not about the sex. Plus there‘s the food.

Hysterically funny mature romance (het, childfree). The competitive groveling in the climax wasn't to my taste, but the h-and-H defending themselves/each other to each other's parents made me damn near cheer out loud. There should be much more 'I'll fight the world for you' in modern romance. Pick! #thisisareread

Light & cute but totally implausible, given the time line.

Another good one from Crusie. The big misunderstanding at the start of the book is satisfactorily resolved!

Five statistically significant stars. This book made me happy while reading it. Adorable and relatable characters, quirky story, laugh-out-loud situations, touching moments- everything contributed to a great book. I will always remember Min and Cal, their friends and families, Elvis, shoes, and Chicken Marsala. And, betting, of course.

Vacation book no. 2. My expectations are ridiculously high, since I've had so many people recommend it. I hope that doesn't jinx it. #romantsy

This book might be my favorite fairytale. Crusie is a genius, I love her work.

This is one of my all time favorite books!!! I keep going back to it even after so long. It makes me happy and wistful and dreamy all at the same time❤❤❤❤ Jennifer Crusie at her best! A definite 5 star for me though this may be better suited as a light-hearted, silly read during a slump😍

The female MC has a thing for chicken marsala and what attracts the male mc to her is the way she eats her food, and chews, and smacks, and appreciates. And while I was reading that part during lunch at work, I'll be damned if I didn't have the best grill cheese of MY LIFE!!!!!!!! Lol

Yes. I know. I should have read it sooner. I've heard it recommended so many times that it shouldn't have taken me this long. But it did and I'm sorry. Bet Me is amazing. It's smart and snarky and funny and I could read about Min and Cal all day. Don't be stupid like me, read it now.

I'll give this a pick for its humor and its depiction of the wonderfully "round" Min. But I must say that I find myself more and more less attracted to contemporary romances. Not sure what it is specifically, but it seems I much prefer historical novels (romance, mystery, etc.). The only exception would be my newly discovered interest in urban fantasy (aka Kate Daniels). #lovelivinginthepast #romantsy #osrbc

I miss romantic comedies, so few are getting made these days. There are so many contemporary romance novels that would be perfect for adaptation - get on that, Hollywood! Bet Me, a Jennifer Crusie classic, was the first to come to mind. #seasonsreadings2016
