Book read in July🤷🏽‍♀️In this series , I have different editions😬
Answering questions made in #InDeathLong Reading #IDLR (6 months ago😳) I‘m like @TheAromaOfBooks I knew who he did it but that happened close when author revealed who was it. There were clues in that interview with him. I liked this book better it was a fast pace but I still think Roarke likes to control, is pushy and manipulative😐I don‘t how open is their relationship⬇️

Gissy (Cont.) This is a long series, so let‘s see how that relationship will end. 3.8⭐️

TheAromaofBooks Woohoo!! I am liking Roarke better as the series goes along. He's still very pushy, but I think he feels like if he doesn't make Eve take care of herself, she just won't. However, she survived without him up until this point soooo 😂 2mo

A couple weeks behind the #InDeathLongReadalong , but I wanted to finish last month‘s book this weekend!

I really like watching Eve become more comfortable with her feelings and being with Roarke. He definitely has issues too, but it seems like they balance each other well. Good mystery with lots of suspense and a nail biting conclusion. I‘m really enjoying this series so far. On to book 3!

LiseWorks Oh so glad you liked it. Book 3 is even better 😍 8mo

I'm a little behind in posting this. This 2nd in the series was actually better than the 1st. And og course because this one was also written in the 90's there are a few editions. So more bi go's spots for me. I'm still working on January #ISPYBINGOJANUARY. A feather is a writing tool even if, in this case, it wasn't used for that. The edition I read has a car on it, which in the books do fly, taking as a plane for #ISpyBingoFebruary. #SeriesLove24

#IDLR #InDeathLongReadalong Book 2 was all about the media and powerful women being silenced. But one woman stands for them and ultimately catches the killer. I enjoyed this book better than the first - I liked seeing Eve accept aspects of her romance with Roarke and start to acknowledge aspects of her past. A couple of questions or conversation starters:⬇️.

StayCurious let‘s talk a bit about why on earth Summerset hates Eve so much and why we think Roarke puts up with him (for those who don‘t know). 8mo
StayCurious Did you guess who the killer was early on or did Roberts do a good job with the Angelini brood leading us astray? 8mo
StayCurious Do you think Eve should confront her past or is it best left to her foggy memories? 8mo
See All 19 Comments
StayCurious Do you think Roarke is moving too quickly in their romance or is he just trying to lock Eve down so to speak? 8mo
StayCurious Did Eve display too much arrogance by putting herself as bait which ultimately lead to Kirskey‘s death? 8mo
CatLass007 I have a feeling that Roarke and Summerset share a colorful history. What kind of history, I don‘t have any theories. I loved that Eve invited her best friend over to hang out and Summerset seemed completely flummoxed. 8mo
CatLass007 I did not guess who the killer was. I thought the gambling fiancé was probably the culprit. 8mo
CatLass007 Eve is having nightmares about a past that she denies remembering. Those kinds of memories don‘t stay hidden forever. The harder she tries to suppress those memories the more painful the final reveal will be. They‘re going to come back and bite her in the ass eventually. Allowing a therapist to help her uncover her past in a controlled way would be a lot less traumatic. (edited) 8mo
CatLass007 In the first book, I didn‘t like Roarke at all. He seemed like a manipulative, domineering, control freak. And he manhandled her. I liked him better in this book. I‘d still be pissed that he emptied out Eve‘s apartment and moved it into his mansion had I been in her shoes. I think it was a statement to Eve that he wanted her to be comfortable but on his terms. I think it was a statement to Summerset also. But Roarke is not a patient man. (cont)⬇️ (edited) 8mo
CatLass007 (cont) I just can‘t imagine how she could allow him to be so presumptuous. I did appreciate how Roarke divested himself of any enterprises that might have shown even a hint of being outside the law. (edited) 8mo
CatLass007 I see Eve and Roarke as being alike in certain ways. Yes it was arrogant. Eve is the kind of person who has the attitude of “if you want something done right, do it yourself.” So is Roarke. Eve wants to be in control of any situation in which she finds herself. She‘s as much of a control freak as Roarke. (edited) 8mo
ShananigansReads @StayCurious I‘m sure Mavis‘ visit did not help. 😂😂😂 8mo
ShananigansReads @StayCurious he is definitely moving fast but that‘s him. At least when it comes to Eve he‘s all gas and no brakes. 8mo
CatLass007 @ShananigansReads I kind of think Mavis‘s visit did help. It allowed Eve and the reader see a crack in Summerset‘s facade. 8mo
willaful I did guess, but I'm not sure if that's because I've read it before or because it reminds me of another mystery with a similar motive.

@CatLass007 Definitely agree it's not safe to keep those memories buried, especially when they cause nightmares and flashbacks... I also agree Roarke is more likable in this one. .

@ShananiganReads I think the “all gas“ really works for them. She's so guarded.
8mo
CatLass007 @ShananigansReads @willaful I just got off the phone with a friend who I was telling about Eve Dallas. I said she was having flashbacks and then I walked it back a bit and said I‘m not sure I‘d call them flashbacks. My friend suggested the term “intrusive memories,” and I like that term. 8mo
LiseWorks I loved the part when Eve brought Mavis to the house. I don't think Summersette knew what to make of the fact that Eve's best friend is so loud in appearance, etc. While she herself is not. 8mo
TheAromaofBooks I did guess, but not until close to the reveal. I thought the herrings were pretty well placed. Overall, I liked this one a lot better than the first book. The rhythm was better. Roarke is still kind of pushy, but I think his motives are sincere, so I give him some leeway haha 8mo

It‘s already the end of February and tomorrow we‘ll be discussing what we thought of Book 2 in the #InDeathLongReadalong #IDLR - how did everyone like having just two check-ins? Did it make you less motivated to keep up? We will be starting book three in March. Let me know if you want to stay with us! @LiseWorks

Librarybelle I won‘t have the book completed by tomorrow, but oh well! Yes…definitely wish to continue!! Have book 3 ready to go, as soon as I finish Glory In Death! 9mo
ShananigansReads I have about an hour left and I‘ll tackle it soon. I think just would like more check-ins. Doesn‘t have to be daily, maybe weekly. 9mo
See All 7 Comments
MrsV I‘m in for book 3! I agree with @ShananigansReads with maybe a weekly check in. 9mo
CatLass007 I agree with @ShananigansReads @MrsV that a weekly check-in is a good idea. Once a week sounds good, but it doesn‘t have to be on a particular day and should be done at your convenience. I don‘t think we need them as reminders, I just like to touch base with everyone. I finished Glory in Death a couple of weeks ago and enjoyed it more than the first. I look forward to our discussion and to Immortal in Death. 9mo
TheAromaofBooks I do better with a slightly more structured schedule, so something like 1-2 chapters a day, with a check-in every week or so, would work best for me - I end up reading it at that pace anyway, though, so maybe that's why it appeals to me 😂 9mo
willaful I like the weekly idea as well. I finished the book over a week ago and do I remember anything? 😂 9mo

#InDeathLongReadalong #IDLR Feb 15 Check-in: I won‘t put up a chapter summary but will point those who are interested to the In Death Wiki Fandom page (google that) - it has a ton of great info and a chapter play by play for each book. I thought in this check in we can discuss what we‘re liking, disliking, and who we think is a prime suspect. If you‘ve finished the book please no spoilers!

StayCurious Just like in book one, Eve is thrust into strange (to her) family dynamics. Family is always complicated but in this case I think Cicely was the matriarch and pillar of strength that held the rest together 9mo
StayCurious I thought her struggle with Roarke and her fear of commitment was so heart wrenching to read. I felt for both of them! But also - girl - take the diamond!! 9mo
See All 21 Comments
Librarybelle Thanks for these posts! I‘m behind on reading, but will be done by the end of February! 9mo
willaful I guess I'm back in the swim of things because I'm enjoying this more than the first one. Eve finally breaking is painful, but also so important. 9mo
ShananigansReads @StayCurious 🤣🤣🤣 at “take the diamond!!” (edited) 9mo
ShananigansReads I like the dynamic between Eve and Roark much more this time. It felt forced in book 1. I‘m thrown for a loop at who the killer is. But I‘m rarely successful at sussing them out. 9mo
LiseWorks The fact that Eve wore the diamond next time she sees Roarke tells me that a. She took the diamond b. She was touched by the jester. 9mo
MrsV I understand Roarke has his fingers in a lot of pies so to speak, but if he is going to have to be “eliminated” as a suspect every time that‘s going to annoying. 9mo
CatLass007 @ShananigansReads I agree about the dynamic between Roarke and Eve. It is more believable in this book than in the first one. The dive in head first relationship in the first book was my least favorite part of the story. Eve‘s history of sexual abuse as a child, the abuse she says she doesn‘t remember because it‘s not important, makes me question how Roarke‘s forcefulness in pursuing a sexual relationship with Eve (cont)⬇️ 9mo
CatLass007 didn‘t seem to be a problem for her. She became angry at his arrogance, but not at the near assault in the first book. In the current book there‘s more tenderness. 9mo
CatLass007 I love that Galahad‘s supremacy over the humans is acknowledged.😹😻 9mo
willaful @CatLass007 I think she never feels truly helpless with him. It would be very different if she did. His threat is to her armor, not her person. 9mo
StayCurious @willaful well said. His threat is to her heart. 9mo
CatLass007 @willaful I hadn‘t thought of that, but I believe you‘re right. Many of us have an additional sense (intuition?) that allows us to perceive another person‘s intentions. 9mo
TheAromaofBooks I'm enjoying this one a lot more than the first book. I'm inclined to suspect Cecily's son, who seems sketch - maybe poor Yvonne is a red herring, murdered to draw suspicion away from Cecily's close family? 9mo
willaful @CatLass007 She's also a very tough person. 😁 9mo
CatLass007 @willaful Sometimes we only think people are tough. People who stuff their emotions, people who deny their feelings and deny that their trauma didn‘t happen, sometimes break instead of bend. I have a dear friend who has Masters degrees in Medical Surgical Nursing and in Counseling who could tell you some horror stories about people she helped. 9mo
willaful @CatLass007 I meant that she's a trained cop, used to being threatened with harm. 9mo
CatLass007 @willaful I will kinda agree with that, but not completely. 9mo

#InDeathLongReadalong #IDLR Feb 15 Check-in: I hope those of you who have been reading our second book are enjoying the story so far! #InDeathLongReadalong #IDLR #ReadAway2024 #SeriesLove2024 I still like the character of Eve Dallas and I find her relationship with Roarke a bit more believable in this book than in the first one. If I were casting the movie or TV show, I know who I‘d cast as Roarke. The actor‘s name is Franc Luz and I saw him as the detective on Broadway in City of Angels. Good show. Other roles I‘ve seen him in are as Jonny Depp‘s father in Don Juan (cont)⬇️

CatLass007 DeMarco and as Odan in the ST:TNG episode The Host. It‘s his height and his hair that have me leaning in his direction. And the singing. I‘m working on my fantasy cast for the rest of the characters but this will do for now. And this role can be re-cast if anyone better comes along… and I‘m thinking. 9mo
CatLass007 Maybe Michael T. Weiss from The Pretender? 9mo
CatLass007 I‘m looking forward to our discussions on 2/15 and 2/29. ETA: In the first book, the fact that Roarke‘s butler treated Eve so rudely and Roarke allowed it pissed me off. In this book Roarke still allows the butler to be rude to Eve, but now I wonder if they don‘t have some sort of history. The thought crossed my mind reading the first book and in this book I‘m leaning even more in that direction. (edited) 9mo

LiseWorks The guy that has to play Roarke has to be Irish. Lol The guy you mentioned sounds Spanish or Italian. I have no cluenwhonthe actor is but he has to have an Irish lilt in speaking. 9mo
CatLass007 @LiseWorks Actually he‘s American, as I imagine most of the cast will be, since it takes place in the NYC of the future. James Doohan was Canadian and he had a marvelous Scottish brogue in the original Star Trek. But this is just a fantasy movie. I‘m thinking Michael Clarke Duncan would be great as the new chief of police. The character is supposed to be 6‘6” and 301 lbs, since he played an equally huge character (cont)⬇️ 9mo
CatLass007 @LiseWorks in The Green Mile. I know he‘s passed away, but I‘m casting this movie in my mind, not in reality. 9mo
TheSpineView Excellent! 9mo
Ddzmini Ok so who would you cast as Eve? I think Charlize Theron ??? 9mo
CatLass007 @Ddzmini I think she‘s a good choice, particularly because of her height. And I think I can picture her with Eve‘s cheap haircut that she‘s always running her hands through. Daryl Hannah was in Blade Runner as Pris, and I thought she was great in that. Maybe she‘d make a good Eve. (edited) 9mo

I definitely didn‘t enjoy this book as much as I did the first one - it was all I could do to finish. The plot was boring, the killer‘s actions at the end ridiculous. And the way the protagonist was portrayed by the audio reader didn‘t match what I had in my head. She gave Eve a particularly bitchy edge that just didn‘t sit right with me. So when you have a lousy story that isn‘t read to your liking, the rating isn‘t going to be too high. Bummer.

DGRachel I agree. The audiobook narrator can really make or break a story. 6y
BooksAtNight This book is probably my least favorite of the entire series. And come to think of it, this book may be the reason that I stopped listening to this series on audio. I think you just helped me figure out why! 6y

Eve Dallas investigates the murders of several high profile women.

This second book was much better than the first. Eve was still kick-ass and Roarke was less of a control freak. Some of the sex scenes were a little cringeworthy though. Rating: 4 🌟

A great follow up to the first in the series! I'm definitely hooked. The crime in this one had a good number of twists and red herrings. I suspected the killer early on and then got thrown off the scent before it circled back around, the pacing was great. I get a real kick out of the futuristic aspect of the series! And I still ♥️ Roarke. 😍

I am curious, after the ending, to see how the author maintains the relationship between Dallas and Rourke through so many books. It seems to me it might get old, fast.

My Read list is equal to my To-Read list!
It won't stay that way for long since i'm adding books to read everyday lately... 😂
(I'm ashamed of having only read 88 books when my litsy timeline have so many great people having resolutions of reading over a 100! 😂😂 Hoping to catch up to you all someday!)

twohectobooks I add new books faster than I can read them too. 8y
Bookdragon69 88 is still an accomplishment! I read 49. Quality over quantity and as long as you are doing something you love. ❤📘🤓📕 8y
Kalalalatja 88 is high! We all have different circumstances, reading times and non-reading activities, so don't feel bad 😊 8y

PERSONAL REMINDER: "Eve, your self-worth has always been focused on your job. Now a relationship has forced you to begin evaluating yourself as a woman...". "...Doing the job was it, all of it...It‘s still important, but it‘s not all anymore.” “I would say, Eve, that you‘ll be a better cop, and a better woman because of it. Single focus limits us...A healthy life needs more than one goal, one passion.” “Then I guess my life‘s getting healthier."

This book has been read so much it's falling apart. Pages keep sliding out. Library needs a new copy.
