Cuilin Pass the parcel, the host has a gift wrapped with many layers of paper. The game starts with everyone seated in a circle. Music is played, the gift is passed around. When the music stops whoever is holding the parcel unwraps a layer, this continues with the music starting and stopping and layers being removed until the last player to remove the last piece of paper gets to keep the gift. 🎁 3w

CatLass007 @Cuilin That sounds interesting. I have been at holiday parties with other adults when a game of “Chinese” Christmas party is played. Everyone brings a gift, maybe gag gifts or maybe the same type of gifts, say mugs. This doesn‘t work well with large groups because it takes a while. Everyone puts their anonymous gifts on a table or under a tree. Each person is assigned a number or maybe it just goes around the circle. The first person (cont)⬇️ 3w

CatLass007 chooses and opens a package. The next person has the option of taking the gift from the first person or choosing a wrapped gift. It‘s fun but occasionally can be frustrating. 3w

CatLass007 I guess the closest I‘ve ever come to playing blind-man‘s bluff is playing Pin the Tail on the Donkey. 3w

Amiable @Suet624 I used to be a daily news consumer. I read WaPo, NYT, the Atlantic, local news sites, etc. Since 11/6, I can't do it. My eyes skip over anything that at a glance appears political in nature. My brain has disengaged. Where I would once get inspired or irritated into action, I now find myself shrugging and saying, “oh well. That's what they voted for. Not my concern.“ Even though it most definitely is going to be my/our problem(s). 2mo

lil1inblue I used to be against marginalia, but then I inherited some of my grandfather's books. I didn't get to know him well because he was sick after I was born and died when I was young. But I did get to know him through his marginalia. So now I write in all the books. 💖 3mo

CatLass007 My Mom was a weather geek. She even took some meteorology classes in college. Growing up she would listen to the weather reports of three different radio stations just to make sure that we‘d know what outerwear to put on when we left for school. When the Weather Channel was launched she was in hog heaven. But I‘m pretty sure she never heard this particular term because she would have used it often and well. I have a tendency, especially listening to audiobooks, when I encounter a new word to just infer the definition from the manner in which the word is used rather than take the time to look up the actual definition. Like how chique was already adopted into english with its original French spelling then someone decided it needed to be spelled chic at some point.
