Readable and compelling but I might have liked it better if I wasn't already a fan of Johnson's Stevie Bell mysteries, because the similarity in tone only made narrator Marlowe seem meh in comparison to Stevie. It doesn't help that she completely submerges her own personality for love, with great success too. 😬

Good teen mystery. If you liked Johnson's Truly Devious series, you'll also like this. This is a standalone with a teen solving a disappearance in the current time paired with historical story happening in the same location.

Fun and murderful, just like I expect from Maureen Johnson! Although this is not part of the Truly Devious series, this snarky queer young adult protagonist feels tonally similar to Stevie.

Having read 5 books by Maureen Johnson before, I just had this feeling while cracking open the book: “there‘s going to be a map.” Sure enough!

This was such a thrilling read. I have been reading more YA thrillers lately and I tend to be disappointed by some but this one was so thrilling and it grabbed me from the start.

I enjoyed the two mysteries and finding out how they were related to each other. I really enjoyed everything about this book. I think this is the first book I‘ve read by this author.
