Wow! Listened to this audiobook and I loved it. It had the feel of a Dicken‘s novel with lots of twists and turns that kept me guessing about who was up to what throughout. I‘m glad I finally took the time for this one.

Lesbian Charles Dickens! Twists to keep the reader guessing! The haves and the havenots in Victorian London. Mostly listened on audio, this was 24 hours long. Could it have been done in fewer hours!? I liked it but a bit too long for me. Finally got to this #AuldLangSpine pick from @IndoorDame

My intro to Sarah Waters last year, and the one that made me fall in love with her. How cute was baby Cedric back when I was reading this?!
#bookspin but make it super late 🙄
We were without power for four days or so, though, so if that's all I'm behind on I call it a win!
I've already been reading off it esp for #AuthorAMonth and have to say that the Dickens vibe in the tagged choice isnt really jiving with me. Does anyone have a different favorite Waters novel I have to try? Maybe one that is more contemporary?
@thearomaofbooks @soubhiville
I can‘t believe I waited so long to read this book. It was phenomenal. So many twists and turns and as much as I tried to anticipate what would happen, it kept me guessing. So dark and so compelling. As a bonus, I really hoped for a certain ending and I got it. 😁
Just re-read this after watching the Korean film adaptation ( The Handmaiden) of the book. Surprisingly faithful to the book and very lush, atmospheric, and erotic.
#12Booksof2023 August was was a great reading month and there were several 5⭐️ reads, but for the 3rd consecutive month the one I‘m choosing as my favorite was something pulled from my shelves after years of neglect. I‘m never able to pick a true favorite of the year, but this one is definitely a contender. Can‘t wait to read more by Sarah Waters! @Andrew65
#ihavequestions
Fingersmith definitely edges out several really great mysteries I read this year.
I‘m psyched for the new Simone St. James book! And I‘m also having a blast reading/rereading a bunch of Agatha Christie‘s esp all the Miss Marple books.
I usually think my favorite mysteries are locked room, but 2 of my favorites this year were riffs on secret/mistaken identity.
@RaeLovesToRead
One of my favourite books about #delusion today for #autumnplease - I love the many layers of am I deluded or are you deluded or am I deluded about the fact I think you‘re deluded going on in here

August wrap up -
Of the 8 books I finished the tagged book was my favorite, Lady Chatterly was my least favorite, and Red White and Royal Blue was my candy read. 5 were rereads, 3 were 5 🌟, 2 were group reads, and 2 were mood reads.
Of the 9 books I bailed on (not pictured) 3 were not for me, 2 were good but not good enough to finish, and 4 are going back out the shelf to be picked up at a later time.
I think Cedric wants to read this one now that I‘m done with it because he‘s a very smart kitty 😂Seriously, everyone should want to read this one. I don‘t know why Sarah Waters doesn‘t have more buzz, I haven‘t enjoyed a book this much in ages!

“Look at this sky, Maud. See how sickeningly blue it shows. So blue'- he has lifted his hand- it jars with my gloves. That's nature for you. No sense of fashion. London skies, at least, are better-mannered: they're like tailors' walls, an eternal drab.”

Got to the point in my book that had a bookmark. I haven‘t been to Philly since I was a kid so this is obviously where the friend who gave this to me bought it. While I don‘t usually go nuts over bookstore bookmarks, I love discovering the oldest LGBTQ & feminist bookstore in the US! I checked out their website and they do amazing outreach work in their community! I will definitely be ordering from them online!
My name, in those days, was Susan Trinder. #FirstLineFridays @ShyBookOwl
For next month‘s #Roll100 I‘m going to start with Sarah Waters, and move onto Kafka if time permits. I know everyone adores Life of Pi, but this is the second month in a row I‘m feeling uninspired (ignoring however many years it‘s been on my bookshelf…) maybe a sign I should pass it along to someone else…? @PuddleJumper
🍁 Eden Robinson. Just reading her author bios makes me laugh and think we could totally be friends!
🍁🍁 Lots are discovered through you lovely Littens, or at work at the library, or by browsing my local indie

What a wonderful Gothic romp. Fun twists and turns. Highly recommend. 4.5 🌟
November #bookspin #doublespin #bookbingo @TheAromaofBooks
Some of the possibilities for November reading.
This book was full of unforseen twists and turns. One main character a poor girl from the rough door of London and the other an heiress living a quest life in the country. Their lives intersect and everything is not as it seems.

Fingersmith ♥️ What a great twisty turny atmospheric book. I‘d love to read it again for the first time.
Twisty, twisty! Waters weaves great plot, characters and intrigue in a brilliant piece of historical fiction.
Two girls, teens, orphans, but one rich and one poor, find their lives thrown together. One is trying to dupe the other, neither expects to fall in love with the other. Dickensian with delicious twists and turns. https://cannonballread.com/2022/02/fingersmith-elcicco/
I have a new favorite Sarah Waters!
This book is just superb: very Dickensian (that‘s a good thing for me) but with more twists, brilliantly written, wonderful characters… there‘s just not a single thing I didn‘t love about this book. Fantastic on audio!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This is going to be my last #NYWD22 book this year. Thanks, @monalyisha for hosting this again, and thanks to @Amandajoy for the great list to work from.
I have had this on my shelf for 10 years and recently it has been mentioned on the Graham Norton book club, by Savage Reads and Jen Campbell so I think the universe is saying get on and read it.
@Amandajoy I love your list!
Five I‘ve read and loved: One to Watch, Library at Mount Char, A Promised Land, Mexican Gothic. Funny, when I was narrowing down my list I took Obama‘s book off because I technically read it December 2020. 😉
The three at the top left were already on my TBR, so definitely reading those, and I hope to get to at least the ones on the right side.
So excited! ❤️

I read this historical crime novel in October,and it was ideal for the season. Critics have called it Dickensian, and it brilliantly evokes the sights and sounds of neo-Victorian London. Two orphaned heroines, one who lives with a group of thieves(fingersmiths) and one who lives with her rich uncle and helps him with his rare books,are brought together by a plan to steal the fortune. A thriller with an unexpected turn around every corner! 4.5 ⭐️‘s
Intricate plots, love/hate relationships, revenge themes, and plans not working out as expected.

Fingersmith has so many twists along the way, but the biggest one will legit leave your mouth hanging open in shock. As one of my fellow book clubbers put it, the book is like Dickens on crack. If you're not a fan of horror, this would be a great book to stack for the Fall readathons (and same if you are a fan of horror but also like great twisty fiction),
*OLD REVIEW* Lesbians. This is set in the olden days. One girls is a maid for the other, with a dodgy older man. They plan to scam the rich girl and steal her fortune - but then the rich girls scams her maid and she gets locked in a mental hospital. The maid makes it back 'home' - only to find that she should have been the rich girl, and her 'mother' is actually the rich girl's mother. Heavy on the lesbian action 😂 *can't believe I wrote that!*

The upcoming days I will be posting 1 of my 10 favorite books of the year so far - with a few thoughts on them.
Suspense books are my go to choice when I‘m in need of some uncomplicated binge reading. I end up often disappointed though.
And then this one came along and it‘s perfect. The suspense, the twists and the setting in 19th century London.

1. I run 5 book clubs, and help with a 6, and I've done library book clubs in the past too. The list would be too long! But I'm currently reading These Ghosts are Family.
2. Tagged book- there's tons to discuss and the twists will leave you gobsmacked!
So many amazing plot twists in this bad boy! But I must say I definitely thought it was too long. I know it's meant to be atmospheric, and you're supposed to soak in the details. For me though it was a bit much, but the twists had me invested.
What a read. I already knew Sarah Waters is quite the storyteller but this one surprised me again and again. The suspense, the twists, the cleverness, the atmosphere of 19th century London. It left me breathless. Such a satisfying read!

For #ReadingAsia2021 I am in the midst of one for Nepal as well as Bahrain. Next will be Fingersmith which I have been wanting to read for years. If there‘s time left I hope to get to The Morbids which I really want to read soon!
Damn. Just damn. It was like a really great rollercoaster, slow build up and then a wild ride. I‘m glad I finally read this one. I will definitely be looking from Sarah Waters. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
It is 8:30. I have about 200 pages left and work in the morning. But I want to stay up and finish this one. Dang that work thing!
Just another Monday night. I think the pup is sleepy.
I‘m not a garbage person. I can‘t find my sisters Christmas gift so I chose a few books from my unread hoard to gift her. Appropriate? They might be read but I tend to buy previously loved books anyways so...
A Gothic page turner with several twists. Loved it.
