I am really interested in learning more about Sal‘s issues with physical touch. Chapter 17 is the second time his hatred for it is mentioned. I think it‘s interesting how he describes being unsure of why he doesn‘t like it but that he really wants to when he is hugging Noor. I want to see if that dynamic is eventually unpacked.

I really like how this book is written. I love how the readers get the different points of view from each character. I feel like the readers get a better understanding of this community‘s dynamics because of the different perspectives. I also love the different flashbacks to Pakistan.

Auntie Mishab‘s death was extremely sad and disheartening. My heart broke for Noor because even though Sal rejected her, she continued to be there for his family. I cannot imagine how traumatized she was from the experience and having to be the responsible party. I also feel like Mishab's dying wish, presumably for Noor to forgive Sal, is wild.

At the very beginning of the book, I was conflicted about Noor‘s uncle Chachu. I thought it was amazing how much he had done for her and the amount he gave up in order to raise her. With that being said, I felt like he resented her. I had a hard time labeling him as selfish considering all he gave up, but I didn't like how he told her she couldn‘t apply to college because he wanted to go back. Now I just label him as abusive.

This is my second chosen book! I found this story to be very raw and emotional. For instance, this book touches on hard themes, like alcoholism and poverty. I am unsure if this is a book I would have in my classroom due to the mature themes, but I would recommend it to students outside of class.

One aspect I really like about this book is how to handles relationships. The two main characters, Sal and Noor, are childhood best friends. Throughout the book, the author explores the complexities of having romantic feelings for your friends through these characters. Not only do I think students would relate to this topic, but I also think it‘s handled in a very realistic why by having the author show both sides of the story.

My second chosen book is “All My Rage.” This book centers around a young Pakistani immigrant who does not feel at place in the world after being forced to move out of her home country. I really like how informative this book is on Pakistani culture! Before reading this, I did not know a lot about Pakistan, but the author does a great job at exploring this country and its culture!

Nearly done with June's pick but behind with May. Hoping July #bookspin is an easy read!

This was an incredibly well told story of two Pakistani American teens and their families. Although the main story is when they‘re high school seniors, we learn a lot of family history for both. I felt many emotions while experiencing the lives of both Salahudin and Noor. They face some very difficult situations but come through with hope in the end.

Just wow. This is a type of book I am sure will stay with me for a long time. An emotional journey for our two protagonists as they grow up and learn to move beyond the loneliness and abuse they have dealt with in life.

Audio-library book. Each voice overs for Noor and Sal did incredible. Thought I would cry from Noors outbursts. Both Pakistan teens have the roughest life I‘ve read in a while. Let alone it just kept getting worse; no break at all. Noor has so much deserved anger at the world inside. Liked how that was explained with her process of thought. Glad there was no fairytale ending. Felt so real; like it could be anyone.

There is a clear reason why this book won the National Book Award and The Printz Award for Excellence. It might very well be the best Young Adult novel I have ever read. The story about young people finding their place in the world sounds intriguting.

Although this author writes YA it doesn't read that way. I'm not sure what I was expecting with this one but the book ended up being so much more than I counted on. Noor and Sal are complex characters and the culture clash they experience is eye opening and heartbreaking. This is one that should be read by everyone. It's made my keeper bookcase.

So far this YA novel that focuses on two Pakistani teens feels more like an adult novel and I am hooked.

This is a book about two Pakistani kids growing up in the States and trying to survive. Noor and Sal are ex-friends who are brought back together after Sal's mother dies and Sal is willing to do anything to keep the family business going. Noor just wants to escape to college.

I can now understand completely why this book has received so much praise; it is one of the best YA books I've ever read.

Going in I wasn't quite sure what the book was about, and I avoided even reading the synopsis. This story of friendship and growing up is beautiful, heartbreaking, and hopeful. It made me angry, it made me laugh, and it made me tear up several times.

It's a wonderful book and I highly recommend it.

This was wonderful. I loved the main characters, there are many hard topics addressed, but it is done in a conscious and natural way.
My one dislike was the flashbacks to Sal's mom's past. I didn't like being taken out of the current story, but I appreciate in doing so we are given a deeper history.

There is something so special about reading a new book and having an older favorite book mentioned, especially when that older book isn't considered a classic. ❤️

This is a compelling well-written novel that I inhaled. A major theme to me is you never truly know what's happening inside someone else's four walls. We constantly make assumptions about why humans behave and make the choices they do with incomplete information. Highly recommend to high school students or anyone who enjoys YA novels.

Absolutely stunning. I know I‘m late to the game on this one, but it is so worthy of every bit of of praise and accolade.
Also, I‘m aware my dumb bag of chai is swill compared to what they truly make in this book, but I found myself captivated by the food and drink throughout the whole thing. So I had to make do with what I had on hand.

Written for readers who enjoy having their heart squeezed by the giant hand of bleak experiences. And there‘s a playlist!

This review is written by 15 year old Trish, who absolutely loved it and thinks Noor and Misbah are great female characters. Despite the crap they had to deal with.
Adult Trish would like to say these teenagers made some bad decisions and is that really the appropriate ending!
Overall, a good read 😁 with some great music.

Enjoying the book so far.

I mostly enjoyed this YA story about two Muslim HS students living in California. The book started out very strong but towards the end it petered out a bit. Teens Noor & Salahudin are childhood friends but now they are on the outs until a tragedy brings them back together only leading to new trouble. There‘s a lot going on in this YA book. It‘s engaging, plot twists and turns, likeable characters who make some mistakes, and mostly believable reactions. There‘s a few flaws, but my teenage daughter would love this book, she would see strong female characters, and that‘s what makes this book receive a good recommendation.

All My Rage by Sabaa Tahir is a beautiful and meaningful story about Salahudin and Noor. They are young high school students who are facing unthinkable circumstances. Though they often make the wrong choices, they must always deal with the consequences. They are sympathetic characters who captured my heart & had me rooting for them. This is a novel that teaches empathy & understanding with being a bit difficult to read at first but well worth it.

One of the best books of 2022! Great YA realistic fiction from a queen of YA fantasy! Sabaa Tahir had me rooting for her teenage characters even while they made huge mistakes. She captures emotion and difficult situations (loving someone w/addiction, past trauma shaping lives, racism) with honesty, compassion. Her biography at the end shows how much of herself she put into her two MCs. 💗
