So far, this is an intriguing listen.
Characters felt super realistic!
I loved the setting that was a small island. Crime solving was interesting to follow - new information & details were slowly revealed. This was pretty cozy, even though some events were disturbing.
Some things were possible to guess quite early but this still kept you guessing.

19 of 2021. Enjoyable thriller. I look forward to continuing the series⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Swedish noir. At least I'm pretty sure it was Sweden. They mention Ikea a lot. Lol. For once, I liked both the writer and the detective in this (such a popular combo) and the mystery wasn't easy to figure out. Per usual, it was a small town with hidden secrets. Probably gonna take a break from all the winter murder now. At least until next week when I read Five! 26 pts #HolidayRead #MerryReaders #WinterGames2020
Based on Litsy ratings, I have an #unpopularopinion on this one, except I liked it. 🤣 It‘s not the over-the-top graphically violent novel typical of the Nordic noir I‘ve tried (like The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo). Rather it‘s more the small town murder with characters who have dark secrets like you get with Ann Cleeves procedurals. Well written, but I do rather feel like I need a shower. TW in spoiler comment.
Set in #Sweden a woman revisits her past when her childhood friend is murdered. Together with her new lover (also a childhood friend who is now a police officer) they start digging into the past. Lots of characters, scenery, snow, cooking, and plot make this a typical Nordic Noir but not the best one in the genre. Enjoyable though.

Camilla Lachberg is one of my favorite Nordic Noir novelists. Tatiana de Rosnay is a French/British author, but most of her books are written in French and then translated.

#BFC28 week 3 check-in. This week I realized that I need to focus on one habit and go bigger on it. So I walked just over 19 miles this week. I did 2 of my workouts. I dropped the smoothies because that obviously wasn't something I wanted to do right now. I listened to 7 books. Walking has been a good habit to develop.
@wanderinglynn
I really enjoyed this and, surprise, it's another Nordic crime fiction read! This one is set in Sweden. I'm obsessed 😂 the first of the Patrik Hedstrom series, I really enjoyed the plot as well as the characters. Looking forward to reading more by Läckberg. 4 ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Another new-to-me author! For those of you who like crime fiction, I highly recommend following Crime By the Book on Instagram. She gives the greatest recommendations- I learned about this book from her!
#10) Finally finished this book as part of #ReadingEurope #Iceland. It turned out to be an alright book. I did have trouble getting through the middle, but it picked back up about 2/3 of the way through. There were a few bits that I could guess, but also some that kept me perplexed, so overall enjoyable. @BarbaraBB @Librarybelle
And this is where Fjällbacka and Tanumshede are on the map.
The grey/blue line is the border to Norway.
I actually felt a little bad, when Erica talked about summer tourists buying up the houses and turning them into summer cabins when I saw how close to the border the city was. The book was first published in 2003, and I know that in this period a lot of Norwegians was buying up houses along this coast down to Lysekil.

Erica Falck returns home to Fjallbacka Sweden. Her friend Alex has committed suicide. She teams up with Patrik Hedstrom, police, to find the truth. Old family secrets surface and someone committed murder to protect them. Nice debut. Book was slow in the beginning. Ending was a surprise. Interesting characters. Plot twists. Looking forward to book 2. Recommend to those who love mystery thrillers. #Murder2020 4/4

One of the better #NordicNoir that I‘ve read... I haven‘t read many because I feel like they can be really drawn out. The chapters were ridiculously long and I know I saw someone else say something about it. Good read!
I had some trouble getting into this story and the writing, but by page 50 - 60 it began getting better. I liked Erica and Patrick and by the time the story finished, I cared about why Alexandra was killed too.

I didn't know if I was going to like this series. This first book took me some time to get into, but I'm glad I kept going, because I give this an almost 3.5 stars. I am interested in what the second book is. Looking forward to the discussion!
A reread and I enjoyed it as much as the first time. I really like the main characters and am looking forward to the discussion. #nordicnoir

Ready to start this for #NordicNoir
Another great start to a series! Lovely little town, great characters I want to get to know better and intriguing small town secrets. A woman is found dead, suicide it seems, but turns out it‘s murder. Why was she killed? Who did it? The past had become the present and nothing is like it seems. 🌠🌠🌠🌠#NordicNoir #Murder2020 5/5
The second series of our #NordicNoir #BuddyRead starts with this book! Discussion questions posted Sunday 12. I know Andrew read it a few years back and liked it.
Ready! Bring on 2020!
1. The Ice Princess by Camilla Lackberg immediately popped into my mind 📚
2. Frozen, and ditto the above (however, I never saw the movie & I hate that damn song that was everywhere for a while—sorry!) 🎥
3. Baby, It‘s Cold Outside by Esther Williams (which I understand is now considered sexist—I can‘t help it—I‘m so suggestible!) 🎼

I‘m relatively lukewarm about this mystery. The writing was ok, however it was translated so maybe that‘s where my issue with the book lies. I wasn‘t moved in any way by the plot line. I‘ll the second book a chance and hope that it improves.
Some reading and some reviewing. The reading is winning.
Book 1 of the new year done! It was an interesting little town with a murder mystery. I did not see the end coming. It was a bit of a surprise. I am usually very good at guessing.
My book and my baby, Coco. 🥰
