The Crow Girl both mesmerized and disturbed me. Trigger warnings for almost all content. We are used to the darkness of most Scandinavian novels. The Crow Girl makes not attempt to drown out true monsters. It artfully illustrates broken memories, fragments of self shattered by trauma. I could not put it down. The authors (two under one name) wrote of horrors and the horrid. I recommend this book, but with caution and care.

1. I read a few pages at a time and several chapters at a time and everything in between.
2. The tagged book‘s ending was a disappointment.
3. I‘m gradually making my way through the Narnia books.

Making the most of the winter sun again. Great story set in one of my happy places, Iceland. I think I‘ve read others of hers. This did not disappoint. A clever plot and very well written characters . In days gone by I would have had it as a plane read. Perfect for the long journeys we have to take to get anywhere. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

3.5 Stars • REYKJAVIK is a crime novel co-written by Icelandic Prime Minister Katrín Jakobsdóttir and acclaimed author Ragnar Jónasson. Set in Iceland, the story follows the mysterious disappearance of a young girl named Lára Marteinsdóttir in 1956. Thirty years later, journalist Valur Robertsson begins investigating the case. This book is a slow-burning, spellbinding whodunit, with Agatha Christie's influence evident throughout.

Investigator Hulda, feeling excluded as a 60+ woman surrounded by young male detectives in Reykjavik, is being forced to retire. She‘s allowed to tackle one last case, a drowned Russian asylum seeker deemed a suicide. Hulda doesn‘t believe it and opens the case determined to find the killer. Hulda brings a lot of baggage into this story, including a very low self-esteem, which tends to cause more problems—jeopardizing her otherwise brilliant ⬇️

Texreader detective work. Her troubled childhood, her troubled marriage, etc result in her taking rash actions. So she‘s a frustrating character and the conclusion isn‘t satisfying even though it is quite logical. As a result I‘m hard-pressed to recommend the book, but it is well-written and a twisted murder mystery. And it‘s short. #Iceland #foodandlit 5mo

AmyG Iceland is so lovely. 5mo
julesG So all those murder mysteries set in Iceland should actually be shelved under fantasy? How come Iceland managed to get its 💩together but the rest of the world is still bonkers? Would their success work in larger countries? 5mo
Catsandbooks Wow! That's incredible! 5mo

First in a translated series. A Nordic procedural featuring a young detective with a complicated traumatic past. A series of murders and an investigation that uncovers a frightening conspiracy. The twisty twisted plot was less satisfying than the revelations and relationships of the MC, but the short chapters and narration increased the tension and propelled the story. A 3.5 ⭐️ pick. The sequel will go on my TBR list.
