This book is amazing and scary. So realistic and believable that it is heart wrenching.

I love this series. I don‘t have much experience with the traditional Middle Eastern folklore, but the glossary/description pages at the beginning and the end do a good job of explaining the pertinent language. The story is both entertaining and engaging. I can‘t wait to read the last book of the trilogy.
This book is brilliant! She does a wonderful job of folding everyday experiences into the understanding of caste, especially in the US. She makes meaningful comparisons across major world caste systems; explaining how the US caste system is different yet still inspired the atrocities of the German Third Reich. Isabel Wilkerson is an amazing author, & anyone struggling to understand the assault on the US capitol would do well to read this book.
I loved listening to her read her book. She‘s so real and open. A great look at the humanity and struggle of celebrity as well.
*Trigger Warning: she does discuss her experiences with racism, rape, and miscarriages.*
Such an amazing book. I wish this was around when I was young; I can‘t wait to share it with my niece and nephew.
I loved this book. Different from most published writing, but a truer sense of storytelling and not novel writing. Not for everyone, but definitely good for someone who can handle non-linear progressions. Can't wait for the next one!
*Recommend having some familiarity with African culture, myth/legend, and storytelling style for ease of read. Does have a good bit of what Western culture would consider vulgarity in it.
Currently listening to the Swiss Family Robinson just in case there are any survival tips I can pick up. Just in case...🤣
Unpopular opinion, I know. Maybe it‘s because I listened to it or I just wasn‘t in the mood. I understand it‘s historical value, but I had a hard time staying engaged.
This book was better than I expected based on the reviews. I quite enjoyed listening to this, so maybe that made it better. It does have some basic serial killer tropes, but having worked with law enforcement, the story and characters are a bit too spot on; there‘s a reason why some tropes stick. Overall, it kept me pretty engaged and was a good listen without being too outlandish. Not a deep thinking book, so just a good candy read.
#11) I loved this book. The beginning was a bit choppy reading, but I think more because I was so busy and could barely read a chapter every three or four days. However, I got the chance to sit down and read this weekend and finished the book. Another #ReadingEurope2020 #France
#10) Finally finished this book as part of #ReadingEurope #Iceland. It turned out to be an alright book. I did have trouble getting through the middle, but it picked back up about 2/3 of the way through. There were a few bits that I could guess, but also some that kept me perplexed, so overall enjoyable. @BarbaraBB @Librarybelle
#9) I loved listening to this book. Good story, good flow. Another one down for #ReadingEurope #UnitedKingdom
I‘m listening to this while I drive and am really enjoying it. I love the perspective of the animals in a world so impacted by humanity. Work has been busy and roller derby season has started back up, so my physical reading hasn‘t been what I want, but thankfully we have audiobooks in the meantime.
#8) This book was alright. Maybe it‘s me, but it seems like the main character is another conceited guy gifting the world with his presence. For me, at least, there‘s a difference between telling the story of the boy in such a way that provides information for the movement of the plot and in a way that glorifies him as a person. Everything he does works out just because he‘s so great. Overall, just not my cup of tea.
I bought a book cover on Etsy and I love it! Also, they included a beautiful glitter bookmark. Thanks @LibrarianRyan
#7) I really enjoyed listening to this book. Interesting twists turning human nature around. I really liked the ending. Can‘t wait to read/listen to the sequel.
#6) Another good audiobook. I really enjoyed listening to Circe and I love this version of the world of the Greek gods. #ReadingEurope #Greece @BarbaraBB @Librarybelle
I‘m listening to this because it was free and sounded different. I have a problem with the racism in the story (I know it was a “different time”). Also, it‘s very chauvanistic and there are so many monologues that repeat information that I‘ve started to zone out during them. Of course the woman has mysterious ways that beguile a man through her beauty, so he‘s never at fault. Literally, I‘m only still listening because I‘m a completionist.
#3) Listened to this book. I liked it, but wasn‘t a great fan of the narrator. Overall, I can see why this is such a classic and I appreciate how the female characters were important for moving the action along and not just side characters.
First book down for #ReadingEurope2020 (#Romania). @BarbaraBB @Librarybelle
#2) This book was so amazing. It did a good job of bringing the cultural aspects of Jeju out through the shared story of the main characters. I also enjoyed the back and forth of the story through time and the ending. There were definitely some very hard parts, but worth it.
#1) This book was so-so for me; the historical aspects being the only thing saving it from being a pan. I listened to this, so maybe I‘d have liked it better if I actually read the book. However, I did appreciate it addressing the Netherlands‘ past concerning slavery, racism, and how that affected people‘s lives before during and after WWII. I found it informative in that aspect, but just couldn‘t connect with the characters enough to like it.
I listened to this book on audible. It was a bit slow at first, but about a quarter of the way in, I got hooked. Overall, I enjoyed it and would like to continue the series if for no other reason than to see Dorian get his comeuppance, lol. #tbr #wintergames #elfies @Bookwormjillk
Wow, I have no idea why I didn‘t read this sooner. Thanks @Kdgordon88 for the #jolabokaflodswap! @MaleficentBookDragon
I get why everyone was so excited for the sequel to come out. The writing itself was interesting and I really liked the way the historical piece tied everything together. It is a bit unsettling considering the current climate, though. Now I‘m going to have to read The Testaments! #tbr #wintergames #elfies @Bookwormjillk
This one was just okay; definitely not my favorite, though. #holidaymovies #wintergames #elfies @Bookwormjillk
Just finished up the series after a great dinner with friends. #holidaymovie #wintergames #elfies @Bookwormjillk
