This is my favorite of King‘s books for Hard Case Crime. It‘s strong throughout and we know there‘s a kid who sees ghosts from the start. My only complaint is the big reveal at the end doesn‘t seem to add anything to the story@ and leaves a bad taste.

The ending made me go "WTF" and it wasn't a good WTF. The plot was great, the characters were super engaging and the buildup throughout the book was very exciting. But, why Stephen, why would you do that!?

This is a weird novella. It centers around Jamie, a kid who can see the dead. The ending comes up a little short but the nodds to It and the dead lights are fun.

I had issues with the language/tone used for the POV throughout, but it was entertaining & weird. However the last couple chapters wtf why Stephen.

King's third, and thus far final contribution to the Hard Case Crime series, Later is another quick read that kept me turning pages to discover what would happen. Although there's no single underlying mystery at its heart, the premise is fascinating, the characters are tremendously engaging, and I wanted nothing more than to find out what came next - later, if you will - in the life of its young and gifted narrator. 5/5

#NewYearNewBooks Day 6: perfect for #VehicleCvr #VehicleCover - recent Big Bad Wolf Book Haul during New Year‘s day in Sharjah.

My second time through. I really love King‘s voice in this one (yeah, yeah, yeah; right, right, right). I‘m still mixed on the final reveal, which felt ultimately unnecessary, but I do love some of the connections to the larger King universe.

This was read for May's #TBRDeckOfCards for Psychic Ability in Horror.

I love how King writes psychic kids and Jamie was another great entry into that. I enjoyed spending time with Jamie and his seeing dead people (but not like in that movie).

Definitely recommended!

My next Scribd audiobook listen. I was meaning to get to Later, eventually at a later time. 😄 This is starting off really great, and has me so glad to get to this! 🚘👻

This was a great short novel by Stephen King, I like the narrator for the Audiobook, I think he did an excellent job embodying the main character and their attitude throughout the story.

A fun, fast read about a kid who sees dead people (but not like that kid in the movie he‘ll tell you) and the ways in which people, friends and family, use him and his ability for their own purposes. It‘s King so it‘s atmospheric, creepy, and entertaining as anything.

I would read it for the cover alone but it just so happens to be Stephen King so this is my Thursday afternoon sorted…

I wouldn‘t call it hard-boiled, but Stephen King‘s latest “Hard Case Crime” novel is a quick, entertaining read. King‘s ability to create an authentic teenage voice is growing suspect, but I forgive him. The plot: a teenager who sees dead people (Shyamalan: “How original.”) plays a cat-and-mouse game with a shady (and buxom!) cop and the ghost of a serial bomber. Enjoy with some cheap pizza and a Pabst Blue Ribbon.

It was good, but not my favorite. I preferred his hard case crime book, Joyland, more. It checks off all your typical Stephen elements though. It‘s engaging and an easy read. Enjoyable but not earth shattering.

LATER by Stephen King

Jamie sees the dead. But it‘s not so bad. They don‘t mess with you—well, not usually. They mind their business. And if you ask them a question, they must tell the truth.

But Jamie must also keep his ability a secret, otherwise people may try and use it for their own gain. Because the dead know things.

A frighteningly wild ride, LATER is a terrific supernatural horror tale with intriguing connections to King‘s other works.

Quick read. Still quality King.

My best friend truly gets me like no other (well except for maybe my twin). She decided to add to my King shelf for my birthday this year (again, my twin did too just in I different way. She got me the head lol). She not only knows who my favorite author is but what books of his are still needed to finish out my collection. 😍

Later was good. I hope that Stephen King brings back Jamie Conklin for another story. I would love for him to meet Holly Gibney. Also, the villain in this story is pretty scary. #Later #StephenKing

Meh. This is the first S King book I‘ve read in full and I wish I could go back in time and start somewhere else. Not bad enough for me to bail but…. Meh.

Our book club pick for March 📚 I‘ve only read 11/22/63 by Stephen King, and I enjoyed it, just too me awhile to read. Was excited this was the winner because I wanted to read more books by him and I don‘t feel overwhelmed by this one.

This was fun! It was under 300 pages, so it was a quick read. The way the story moved it felt more like a long short than a novel. I enjoyed how the boy could see ghosts, and the callbacks to Chüd and deadlights. I recommend to Stephen King fans!

I enjoyed reading this! And he even spooked me out at one point - so it was a successful thriller! Great entertainment, lots of foreshadowing, and you have to love that vintage cover. Well done!

I haven‘t read any King for years, so I thought I‘d give this a try.

21/150 I was surprised how much I enjoyed this book. I don't consider myself a big King fan, especially his huge doorstop books that weight more than a newborn infant. I did find this "I see dead people" story very entertaining. I'm glad it was suitably creepy without being too gory, which turns me off most horror books. 4 ⭐⭐⭐⭐?

I love Stephen King, so in my mind he really can‘t go wrong. This wasn‘t really a thriller. Story of a boy who can see ghosts just trying to live a normal life. But when others find out his ability they want to use those powers. Easy, quick read. Not typical for SK.

This is a pick with one major issue - loved 99% of this, last 1% was a bummer. The twist at the end had no purpose and added nothing to the story - So I didn't want to pan it, it was more than a so-so, but still.... why didn't he end with “I didn't ask anymore questions after he said yes“ -

Woot! I'm caught up (it's the 4th Day of Christmas!). I love King, he's my favorite author and I'm glad I got to pick him for this- although it was a close call because I really did love Brat by Andrew McCarthy. But Later felt like classic King, and I just loved it.

I am a life-long Stephen King fan and his books are my comfort food. This one checked all the boxes for me - creepy, engaging, and great characterization. No one writes kids like SK can. I hope he comes back and revisit Jaime Conklin in future books.

Later is one of King‘s shorter works but reflects the true essence of any King story and definitely leaves its reader feeling unsettled more than once!

Jamie is a child with a secret: he can see dead people… but this is not just another imitation of The Sixth Sense. Jamie‘s mom, who learns of his ability, Is the one who tells him it is best kept as a secret.

Listened to the audiobook - the narrator did an A+ job which added to the creepiness!

Jamie has seen dead people since he was a child. He has told his mother and it is their secret, until it isn‘t. That‘s when the trouble starts. The audio is well done! Quick pace. Holds your interest.
I know the Litsy community loves Stephen King, so when someone posted about this shorter than usual book, I decided to give it a try. Not fond of the ending, but the story was a thrill ride, and perfect for the season! #blameitonlitsy

4¾⭐| Narration😍=Amazing
This is my first Sk book & I loved it! While it is very reminiscent of The Sixth Sense...this was actually better. Jamie Conklin is looking back on his childhood to a time where he had to face his demons. He can see the dead and some of them have a score to settle...and maybe a few of the living do, too. Other than that weird little bit of info he learned about himself at the very end...ack😝...this was a top-notch story.
