This was an interesting twist on the haunted house story. Four novelists get an offer to spend the night in a haunted house for publicity. They all had weird experiences there but when they leave that's when the craziness starts 🐈‍⬛

Ohhh that was very infodumpy.

It feels like MXTX got more complex and serious than with SVSSS, but didn't yet have the craft that made TGCF shine. I can see lots of stuff I like the idea of here, and there are some fun scenes, but holy mackerel, I cannot keep this backstory straight.

I basically treated it like a Norse saga though: let the names wash over you, you'll get it later. It has potential, though I don't *love* it.

shanaqui And that's my last read for October and closes out #HauntedShelf and my #BookSpinBingo all at once.

Also one of my #CastTheDie choices, and finishes a different October TBR bingo card as well. Finishing on a high note, bringing home plenty of points for #RestlessSpirits, I hope!

PuddleJumper 🎉🎉 I didn't get on with this one either. The translation isn't great, I think you can find one online that is better, but it was all over the place. I can see why people love it though especially with the TV series, the anime, the manga blah blah 15h

Magic candles, a snarky talking cat, a small town populated by friendly witches… what‘s not to love? First book in the series, and I look forward to reading more.

This vintage mystery was a great deal of fun, but a bit too repetitive for it to be a 5* read. Still, a pick for being engaging, humorous, and all around good fun.

This book, based on the Essex Witch Trials of the 1640s, was truly spellbinding.(Forgive the pun; it‘s the most appropriate word I could think of.) I highly recommend listening on audio. I found the narrator‘s voice to be quietly mesmerizing, and was perfectly suited to this story. Although the story is sad, it conveys a real sense of what it was like to live in England during the witch craze of the Cromwellian era. Petrifying.

I hated this book and would like to formally apologize for picking it as a team read. Plot: a group of jealous witches get together to punish a gross man that for some reason they have all been fawning over 🤦🏼‍♀️

KathyWheeler I didn‘t understand the attraction to that guy. Ugh. 4d
RamsFan1963 I remember watching the movie thinking, why are these three gorgeous women interested in this toad of a man?? Even if he is Jack Nicholson 🤮 4d
TheBookHippie I‘ve never read this! Whew. 4d

Managed to read this during sprints so that was fun!

This is a lot denser than the first book. There is so much mythology and information that it got a little bit overwhelming.

I'm excited to see what happens next after that cliffhanger.

Will there be #castthedie in November? Things went off the rails in October, but I did read one of the selected books. For me, the smaller number is easier to manage, so I‘ll continue on my own if applicable. Here‘s my list, containing standalone books published in 2025 that I never got around to reading. Number 11 is part of a series, but it works for Native American Heritage Month and will be the bonus pick.

PuddleJumper #CasttheDie is only on October/December. It's a spinoff off #Roll100 for the big monthly reading challenges 5d
PuddleJumper #BookSpinBingo is monthly and that's a list of 20 books. It's run by @TheAromaofBooks 5d
CSeydel FWIW #bookspin is very flexible - I use a list of 10 each month because that works better for me. I just assign each book two numbers (1/11, 2/12, etc.) 4d
Susanita @CSeydel I like that idea! 3d
