He does such a good job writing a self contained story, this book doesn‘t need a sequel. Still, I want to know how Bug and the others are doing going forward. #sundayfunday

I had mixed feelings with this novel but then I listened an interview with the author and I could understand better the novel development. I think I wanted a “happy ending” but author gave a probable, more realistic ending. I will read anything by this author and I think the narrator in the audiobook is amazing. I like to read the physical book with audiobook at the same time whenever is possible. It‘s like watching the novel in action. 4⭐️

I love the characters and the setting in S.A. Cosby‘s books. In this one a former getaway driver gets behind on his bills, and needs to do one last job. Fun summer listening. #AuthorAMonth #BacklistReadathon

Finally starting my #authoramonth selection!

I‘m working in the yard a bit today before it gets too hot. This summer I have watched my neighbor power wash every surface there is in his yard, some of them twice. His walkways look nice but the noise sure interferes with my zen and my audiobooks.

Holy guacamole! This book is so good! It‘s violent AF but the writing is exquisite. Sometimes I‘d have to pause and just stare into space after reading a particularly well crafted sentence. And I finished it in the same month for #authoramonth !

Meanwhile, I‘m hanging out nursing a cup of coffee in the A/C while I wait for the gates to open at the ballpark, and I have this “could only happen in Washington” chat with my sister.

I wish I‘d been able to sit and read this all at once - it‘s that type of book, and it‘s that good. Action packed, violent, gritty, with lovable characters that you can‘t help but root for. #authoramonth (omg I actually participated 😂) #aam #readyourkindle

(2020) It's the old noir trope about the guy who got out of the life, now forced back in to do one more job. It's an old song, but Cosby knows how to play it fresh all over again. It's sordid, it's violent, it's ruminative, it's so very noir, and it is good.

If you thought there wasn‘t much hope in the world when you read the title of this book, rest assured the bleakness doesn‘t end there. This reads like a gangsta rap song until you realize the sociology behind the story being told. Come for the action, stay for the analysis of poverty and crime in America.

This is my 2nd grid celebrating Black authors, and SA Crosby gets the 5⭐️ tag, yet again, because I am obsessed with his storytelling!

This gritty book has characters so well-written that I didn‘t want this story to end. Tracy Chapman‘s Fast Car played in my head or through Alexa the whole time. Gosh, I love this author, and I‘m desperate for a 6-months later afterward for Beauregard and his family!

I adore S.A. Cosby‘s writing & love the way Adam Lazarre-White narrates it. Both previous reads of his were 5 stars for me, so I was excited to find this at a used bookstore in Denton. I know it‘s some people‘s favorite. I didn‘t love it as much as Razorblade Tears or All the Sinners Bleed, but it was still really good!

Happy New Year Littens!

This is my 3rd read of his, & while it was my least favorite of the 3 it was still good. Lots of action, gritty, gory. Would make a great movie.

It‘s a working Sunday this week and I‘m hoping the day goes faster with another thriller by one of my new favorite authors.

I need to choose an audiobook for a long(ish) drive next week. (To the Gladstone‘s Library reading retreat x woo hoo!).

I‘ve been meaning to read a Cosby book for aaages and now feels like the time.

Is there an order I should read / listen? If not, which would you recommend is the best?

My favorite of his so far. SO much action, character, brilliant. More than a thriller. Plus, nicest guy!!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I don‘t think of myself as being into dark, suspenseful, or violent books, but apparently I am when there is compelling character development and A+ narration, because this was all three and I loved it. Between this and Razorblade Tears, S. A. Cosby is becoming a must-read for me. Looking forward to his new one about a serial killer, which is something I‘ve never said before.

My #BLITSY match already knows this but… I bought her a book and read it before sending the package 😬 is that bad book-etiquette? I‘m not sure, it felt kinda wrong but it also felt so right bc this was rly good!!! 😅

Day 8 Fiction

S.A Cosby is such a dynamic author. His stories are raw and often violent. They are filled with action and complex characters. Really fantastic writing.

Finally got to this, after being sure I'd start it RIGHT after finishing Razorblade Tears in 2021, and then sort of hoarding it bc I figured it was a sure thing. High expectations met and exceeded! Loved this at least as much as RT. Once again, I appreciated the high energy, super flawed but relatable characters, and especially how Cosby manages to subtly weave important social issues and themes into it all. Eagerly awaiting the next one!

Fantastic Southern noir!! I liked Beauregard “Bug” Montage so much as a character even though he was more an anti-hero than a hero. He wanted to be a good father, husband, provider—but circumstances and his own past kept getting the best of him. I enjoyed the car chases more than I thought I would, and I also enjoyed when Bug would seek out revenge. Fast-paced and fun, with perfect audiobook narration by Adam Lazarre-White.

I‘m so invested in this story!! It‘s so good.

Definitely my last book of 2022 and finished with a bang in thus heist novel about Beauregard montage , a getaway driver trying to go straight but under financial pressure, who takes on a last job. The subsequent story moves like the 'hero's' driving fast paced, violent, and extremely tense. I'd never imagined that a car chase would work on page as it does on screen but the author achieves that as well as creating great characters.

I was having connectivity issues with the Libby app and couldn‘t read my library download while traveling to Chicago to visit my in-laws. Thank goodness for Hudson Books in the airports! Grabbed this one on the way through Baltimore. (That‘s the Merchandise Mart in the background, festively lit for the holidays.)

If you like a good anti-hero story then the story of Beauregard Montage is for you. It‘s a little bit of a slow build but that is only because of the amazing character development. Once it picks up it doesn‘t slow down which is perfectly fitting for the story. There are parts that could be hard to read (graphic/violent) but it was all done in an effort to tell the story. Overall would highly recommend and will stay with me. #bookspin for Aug

The audiobook was awesome and really brought Bug to life. Bug was a great character. Seeing how everything was coming due all at once and what he was willing to do to save his family and business gave us great insight into his character. It was those same things that also put them most at risk. Liked the ending as he realized who he was, and didn‘t want to be, but also struggled to figure out if he could change.

Well written. There are not a lot of these types of books out there - A Black southern man who is half criminal, half family man, & trying to balance 2 lives that cannot be separated or combined.
Beauregard is an easy to understand &empathize w/ character. The other characters are more 1 dimensional, but I did enjoy how the story of his father was woven through & u can see the generational trauma & repetition.

I had too many library holds come in at once and couldnt finish any of them so now im on to this one!

My daughter & her friend wanted to go thrift shopping at Goodwill.
As I patiently waited for them I came across their collection of books. Lo & behold, I found 2 first edition hardcovers in excellent condition for $3 each! Under the Dome is one of the few Stephen King books I‘ve yet to read and I LOVED S.A. Cosby‘s Blacktop Wasteland (although I wish Goodwill hadn‘t placed their price tag right on the damn cover!).
What a bargain & a good cause!
