The worst Sedaris in my opinion. Bail!
The worst Sedaris in my opinion. Bail!
I love David Sedaris but I put this book aside for a while now due to all the bad reviews. Now that it is my #DoubleSpin I had to read it. And I am so happy I did. It looks I am probably one of the very few that gave it good reviews but I really loved the stories: they are about and with animals but so much is about the society. Not all are good but a few are real gems, that's just my opinion. A pick for me. Thank you again, @TheAromaOfBooks!
David Sedaris‘s essays are great—self-deprecating, honest, and funny to the point of snark. His envelope-pushing humor applied to these short stories tips the balance over to tasteless. No thanks. I‘ll be sticking with the essays.
How I feel after reading half the stories in this supremely disturbing collection. The illustration is from one of the less grotesque (though equally unenjoyable) tales.
A pick from my latest book haul. Reviews are definitely not so great. Let‘s see how many of the stories I get through.
Thanks for all the well wishes on my headache. Crossing fingers that the nap I took this afternoon has kicked it to the curb!
I managed a walk this morning and finished my first #audioread of the #BFC. I usually quite enjoy Sedaris, but this one was just meh 😐 The book I started today seems promising.
My daily step count is already improving - hello to all you Fitbit users! 😉

Planning to start this #audioread tomorrow! I listen at chipmunk speed, so it‘s fitting! 🎧
Don't be fooled by the animals, this is some scathing social commentary! 🙈
Seasons isn't happy I woke her up to take this picture, but I made up for it with the heated blanket. 😁
So this book is...bizarre. I read it cover to cover in just a couple hours. It was like a train wreck, some of it was gross, but also it was strange enough I didn't want to put it down. The way David Sedaris's brain works is fascinating. If you like his other stuff, you might like this one.
I enjoyed this. But if you're looking for touchy feely animal stories, then this is not the book for you.
I have been traveling since yesterday night to go back home. Waiting for my third fly in less than 24 hours (or more if you count started yesterday night time difference is terrible) but Sedaris is always a good choice. In these #shortstories we learn a lot about human behavior like the fables I used to read. But these are not for kids
#QuotsyNov18 Day 6: #Jazz as a representation of every beautiful thing one has taken for granted.
⭐️ 1/5 stars Luckily this was short because I was not a fan. I thought it would be cute and funny stories with animal characters telling human stories, but it was not. These stories were depressing, needlessly violent, and full of complaints. I heard such great things about David Sedaris, but I am throughly disappointed.

If this photo doesn't convince you to read this book I don't know what will.
Morning #audiobook
❤️
Of all the David Sedaris books I've enjoyed on audio, this is the one I sat through with the feeling of meh 😐. It was okay and drew out the occasional chuckle, but it's not my favorite.
As you can probably tell, I've been on a David Sedaris kick lately. I hadn't read this one before, though I think at one point I had started reading a physical copy, and ended up abandoning it.
The audio helped. The readers were great, especially Elaine Stritch. In the end though, the stories are just a bit too grim for my taste. I get the messages in them -- they're like little morality tales or fables. Just not my preferred Sedaris cup of tea.
Anthropomorphic cautionary tales for contemporary time. A fun and quick read.
I don't read a lot of books about love stories, romance, etc. This was even my least favorite #Sedaris book, but the cover art is cute! #coverlovers #awesomeautumnbooks
Just started reading Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk 😀
This book was really well-written and easy to pick up and put down because each chapter is a different tale, but it was kind of dark and a little uncomfortable at times.
The stories in this book are seriously quirky. Some are quite funny but honestly most are tinged with sadness. Like a fable they make you think. Plus the illustrations are just to much to pass up! Don't ask about the owl and hippo 😂
Since using Sedaris for my #LGBTQ+Author is so obvious, I'll throw this in: a few years ago when I worked for a disaster cleanup company, I dealt with his youngest brother "Rooster" and he talks just like Amy Sedaris' impression of him in her and David's show. #junebookbugs @RealLifeReading
Couldn't resist sharing for the #FeistyFeb #anthropomorphiccharacters prompt!
Some highlights:
Squirrel and chipmunk have run out of things to chat about (acorns, parasites and the inevitable approach of autumn have already been covered)...and so chipmunk pretends to like Jazz.
Later, cow tries to win at Secret Santa by picking Turkey...who will be lunch by the time presents are exchanged.
And mouse loves her pet baby cornsnake...
Not my favorite Sedaris book.
Went to my local indie bookstore alameda Books Inc love that place. Found these two amazing books on sale! Now pursuing them over yummy vegetarian Chinese food. It's a good way to Saturday. #lunch #vegetarian #books #indiebookstores #reading also ordered my copy of Killing Rage by Bell Hooks for @LitsyFeministBookClub
Sardonic little fables about critters with people problems. Cynical and cute at the same time!

Audiobook version. I love listening to David Sedaris read his essays and stories... And therein lies the problem with this audiobook for me. Too many readers, too little of Sedaris reading. It's just not the same.
Hope it's not too late for fun-photo-Friday. @Liberty My favorite autographed book is technically dedicated to my daughter...
I love David Sedaris. This is a compilation of short stories about animals, which is just as funny as his autobiographical books. The animals in each story have human problems. In one story they complain about bureaucracy. In another, a chipmunk & squirrel's love is disapproved of by family members
It was okay, quick table top read.
