I highly recommend this book if you are interested in reading stories that would keep you at the edge of your seat throughout the story. It is a psychological thriller that seizes the reader to read the pages until the very end. This is the book for you if you are intrigued with mind-blowing plot twists with a well-written story and narrative.

rianna.dudas If you like books such as The Housemaid by Freida McFadden, Sharp Objects, and Gone girl by Gillian Flynn, this book definitely needs to be on your “to read list!”
1mo
rianna.dudas The Silent Patient is a psychological thriller and mystery involving an artist named Alicia Berenson who seemed to be living a perfect life with her photographer husband, Gabriel, whom she is deeply in love with. Issues started to arise when their life unexpectedly turned upside down when Alicia murdered her own husband by shooting him on a random night.

1mo
rianna.dudas She was investigated and found guilty after refusing to talk or say any word after that incident. Years passed and she was admitted to a mental facility where she remained silent and emotionless. The unsettling murder that baffled everyone gradually started to fade from everyone‘s memory except for

rianna.dudas Theo Faber, a psychotherapist that worked there who is deeply intrigued in Alicia‘s story and the truth behind what truly happened. Theo is dedicated to comprehending the silence behind Alicia and discovering the true reason for what actually transpired by becoming her therapist and slowly trying to bring herself back into reality. 1mo
rianna.dudas Theo has no idea that his work as her therapist will light up a path that was never intended to be found and pursued.
1mo
rianna.dudas One of the themes that revolves around this novel is the idea of honesty and deception between the characters in the story and how it is able to turn one thing to another. The Silent Patient highlights the need of honesty as a critical component of one's own and other people's safety and security.
1mo
rianna.dudas Deception on the other hand is also one of the foundations of the plot. This is made clear by Theo Faber's statement that “Choosing a lover is a lot like choosing a therapist,“ which suggests that one should carefully select a partner who is honest, trustworthy, and with whom one can open oneself without fear or judgment.
1mo
rianna.dudas The Silent Patient consistently demonstrates how deception can affect a person and their decision, it is what manipulates to reveal the side of the character that they have been concealing. Furthermore, this theme demonstrates the connection of conflict to one‘s honesty. Alex Michaelides uses the theme “honesty vs deception” to intrigue and evoke the readers to unravel the mystery by examining the honesty and deception between the characters.

HOW DID I NOT SEE THAT COMING BYE 😭

blurb
rianna.dudas

The Silent Patient is a must-read if you like books that are filled with mystery and suspense. This book is filled with a plot twist that one can never see coming. Michaelides‘ novel revolves around how both love and trauma are what mold a person and their actions. As said in the novel, “unexpressed emotions will never die. They are buried alive and will come forth later, in uglier ways.”

rianna.dudas Alex Michaelides writes this novel from the first-person point-of-view perspective of Theo Faber and Alicia in some parts of the story. Theo shares about his journey in Grove with his patient Alicia while balancing and battling with his personal life as well. He passionately expresses his resilience and determination as he gradually attempts to piece together the truth.
2mo
rianna.dudas The story begins with Alex Michaelides starting off the story as if everything is perfectly in place. An artist named Alicia Berenson appears to be madly in love with her photographer husband, Gabriel. Their contented marriage was deep and serene and appeared to be filled with sunshine and butterflies. Up until one night, Alicia mercilessly shot Gabriel in the face five times with an unidentified reason, for no word ever came out of her mouth sin- 2mo
rianna.dudas ce that incident. This tragedy spread like wildfire among the community and made everyone despise Alicia for the disturbance of the murder and for remaining silent like a blank canvas that left everyone questions regarding the truth unanswered. She remained in Grove, a mental health facility where she unexpectedly remained placid and silent throughout the years, completely lost in herself. In spite of the case slowly fading as time flies by, 2mo
rianna.dudas Theo Faber, a psychotherapist, is captivated by Alicia‘s mystery and is determined to make her talk, being clueless of the risk and danger he is walking into. Theo is deeply invested in knowing the truth and never lets anything get in the way of unraveling why Alicia killed her husband. 2mo
rianna.dudas His journey would lead him to something more complicated and alarming that he would have never expected when starting a job at Grove and having Alicia as his patient.

This…wow… I finished the book last night and had to just sleep on it. The ending, the twist, I didn‘t see it coming. I sat, staring at the pages for a good twenty minutes, trying to wrap my head around what the heck I just read. And honestly, it was a pretty good read. There were times when I was disappointed by the writing style, but for the most part, it was good. I think. Idk. I‘m still confused if I liked it or not. Just read it yourself.

I feel like I need to give this book another try… I‘ve heard so many good things, and I think it might‘ve been because I was doing the audiobook and the reader just had me so turned off from it for some reason, I just couldn‘t get into it.

MarissaReads I read this one… it ended and I was just not happy with it. It was hard to get through so I definitely feel your feelings. 2y
ShaniaAJ @MarissaReads that‘s good to know I‘m not the only one, so many people I know have read it and loved it so I was surprised I had such a hard time with it. 2y

1. Yes! Yes! Yes!😊
2. Tagged.
3. Haruki Murakami. His magical realism storytelling always takes me where I least expect it. Same as David Lynch with his surreal movies. You never know what's happening, where the story is going and why. Love it.

I literally can not say enough good things about or recommend this book enough. A psycho thriller in which a woman, Alicia, shoots her husband after ~6 years of marriage, and then goes silent for ~6 years following. Enter psychotherapist, Theo, to try to uncover why she went silent and try to get her to talk again. Twists and turns and many psychology components, absolutely a must read.

This is my beloved house rabbit, Moxie Crimefighter, helping me with a reading challenge nearly 7 years ago.

First thing tomorrow morning, she goes in for oral surgery. She gets a little, bunny-sized gas mask, & they knock her out so they can file her teeth down. It should help with the pain she‘s been experiencing. The doctor is renowned in her field & very reassuring…but I‘m *incredibly* nervous.

Please send us love from your corner. 💞

It is more of a character study than a murder investigation. It's about what goes on inside the mind of the murderer and also the psychological effect of the events leading up to the murder. The brilliant plot twist. No matter how many murder mysteries you read, you wouldn't see this one coming. The last few pages tie up the novel so beautifully that you will find yourself flipping back to the pages to check if you have somehow missed some clues.
