The Other People
The Other People | C. J. Tudor
The gripping new thriller from the acclaimed author of The Chalk Man and The Hiding Place, about a man desperately searching for his missing family who falls under the sway of a sinister support group with a murderous agenda. Three years ago, Gabe's family disappeared. Most people think they died. Some of them blame Gabe. Hardly anyone believes the truth--that Gabe saw his daughter the day she and his wife disappeared, smiling at him from the back of a rusty old car speeding down the highway. So even though it's been three years since that day, Gabe cannot give up hope. Even though he has given up everything else. His home, his job, his old life. He spends his days travelling up and down the highway and sleeping in service stations, searching for the car that took her. It's hard for most people to understand. But Gabe has found some who do in an online group set up by people who have also lost loved ones--who have suffered like him. They call themselves "The Other People." Because isn't that what everyone thinks: bad stuff only happens to "other people." When the car that Gabe saw driving away that night is found in a lake with a body inside, Gabe is suddenly under suspicion--and in danger. In desperation, he turns to The Other People for help. Because they are good people. They know what loss is like. They know what pain is like. They know what death is like. There's just one problem . . . they want other people to know it too.

People tried to make sense of tragedy, when the point of tragedy was that it was senseless. Bad things didn't happen for a greater purpose. They just happened.

I really liked this. The beginning pulled me in right away and I wanted to know what happened. Gabe himself has some secrets we learn about along the way, as well. A really enjoyable book (for me) in what is my current favourite genre

🎧 Gabe‘s driving home from work & sees a little girl in an unfamiliar car mouthing “daddy”. It‘s his daughter Izzy or is it?

Izzy & her mom Jenny were killed by an intruder earlier.

3 years later me meet Fran who‘s on the run with her daughter Katie or is she? Gabe‘s still looking for his daughter & ‘Samaritan” is helping him.

Tudor‘s books are twisty & come together in the end.

Richard Armitage is a perfect narrator!

I didn‘t love this as much as the Chalk Man but still enjoyed it.

From the start I was hooked! There was a little towards the end that went in an odd direction that I didn‘t think was necessary but otherwise it was just the quick, suspenseful read I needed.

C.J. Tudor is one that I will continue to read and have started to recommend to others 😊

Gabe is driving home one night and he thinks he sees his daughter Lizzy in another car. He doesn't see her again. He spents his time driving up and down the motorway, trying to find her. Fran and her daughter are running from some bad people. Somehow Gabe and Fran are connected in this and then there is the strange group called The Other People. It is a dark gripping psychological thriller, very good!

This is the second book I have read by this author. The beginning was a little slow and disjointed for me because of all the varying POV and back stories being told. But once it started coming together I enjoyed it. Not overly fast paced but I was compelled by the mystery itself. 4 ⭐⭐⭐⭐

💛💛💛💛 I did enjoy this read, it was spooky and atmospheric and the plot does keep you very engaged. I did sometimes find the cross over and links between characters a bit much and kept having to try remind myself what the links were. Not sure how sold I was on the supernatural elements either. Otherwise would recommend!

The concept is thought-provoking with a ton of potential. In the end, the author could have done better with fleshing it out, including the supernatural elements and “feeling”.

In my opinion, this is the weakest out of CJ Tudor's books. I went in expecting a creepy, atmospheric, slow-burn mystery, but this is totally different from her previous stuff-- it left me sort of bummed out. For some reason this gave me strong Harlan Coban vibes, and those types of stories never work for me in book format. Hoping she returns to her original style for the next one!

😟 Unfortunetly, this one of truest statements I've read in a book this year. I've just never found the best way to explain it with words 😞 Hoping it gets better with every passing year.

This was a Buddy Read, otherwise I would've never have read this book. Happily, I did get the chance to get to know C.J. Tudor and her book.

Her intriguing book, that draws you in slowly, but when you realize how deep you are into the story, it's already to late. I just couldn't stop reading, especially not at the end, when it turns out, how complexly built the whole story is.

Now I really want to read more by C.J. Tudor!

Probably my least favourite out of her books but still a good read. I found this one hard to focus on to read but after switching to the audiobook, it was easier to get through. It really doesn't matter what the words are as long as Richard Armitage is reading them 🥰🥰

Random House Book Club and ID hosted a virtual book chat with C.J. Tudor, Janelle Brown, and Karen Abbott last week. The purchase of an official ticket came with your choice of the newest release from any of the authors. I loved the conversation between these authors and C.J. Tudor, especially, was so much fun. I definitely want her haircut. 😂 One benefit of lockdown has been all the online book events! #bookmail #pandemicpositives

Graciouswarriorprincess I was signed up but then work got in the way. So bummed that I missed it but I am loving all the virtual author events! 5y

February book but discussed on March in Literally Dead Book Club hosted by YouTuber BooksandLala.I understand why some people don't like the book because there are many coincidences. Go blind because is a thriller but it's about how to receive vengeance.Someone will offer a pledge to help with that petition but it's all about a chain of retribution that you cannot escape. It kept my attention to know who The Other People were and what they do. 4⭐️

I still find her writing to be a little clunky and hard to binge. The story had me until she did the same thing she did in her first book which was... acknowledge there are loose ends that won‘t be answered. It just feels clumsy! Also: bad cover art!

I absolutely love the spookiness of Tudor‘s books. These are no normal thrillers. Yes, they keep you on the edge of your seat and undoubtedly are incredible page turners but I love the other-worldliness and the fact that there aren‘t always easy answers to be found. I‘m only sorry I have to wait for her next one!

This was not what I was expecting and I liked it kind of, maybe. I mean I read it in 6 hours because I needed to know what happened next but I don‘t enjoy supernatural elements in psychological mysteries. The characters all felt very shallow but the plot was engaging, Gabe felt almost like half a person but it could be his circumstances. I don‘t know, it wasn‘t the best thing I‘d ever read but I didn‘t hate it and that‘s all I can really say.

C.J. Tudor does not disappoint! I‘ve read all of her books and, while this isn‘t quite my favorite (The Chalk Man is!) it definitely is close. So...many...twists! And she does that lovely thing where she peppers it with lots of short chapters with cliffhanger endings...how am I supposed to stop reading and do anything else? I‘ve been very lucky with my thriller picks lately and I hope my luck continues! 🌟🌟🌟🌟

Excellent read. Read it straight through. A man witnesses his daughter being kidnapped. He spends the next couple years searching for her. It leads him down a twisted path full of people and connections he is not sure he should trust but he has nothing left to lose. Page turner for sure. A couple quick "convenient tie ups" but still believable. ?‍♀️?‍♀️?‍♀️?‍♀️

Bk5 of my #JanuaryBookHaul is a signed copy of the new novel by the author of The Chalk Man. I enjoyed that one, though not the best I‘ve read, her 2nd,The Taking Of Annie Thorne, was very strange but a solid read, I‘m hoping 3‘s the charm & this one is the killer.Three years ago, Gabe saw his daughter taken but no one believes him, Katie works in a service station on the motorway that Gabe haunts & Fran is on the run. How do their stories entwine?

This book is shaped like a whirlpool. You start at the edge, not realizing what you‘ve been caught up in, and then you start slowly swirling and moving toward the center of the whirlpool, and then everything comes together, and, SPLASH, you‘re in the center, whirling with the characters and the story comes to a climactic conclusion, and you think it‘s all over, but, there‘s one more whirl and then, you take a big breath, and it‘s done. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
