I love a cute romance that is set in a DC that feels like my city and there are no politicians. That being said, I accidentally read this series out of order, so this is the first one but I read it second. Still fun!

About half way through and this book is definitely the feel good read I need! Max and Lina are delightful and hilarious… not to mention the tension is only growing
Must read for romance readers ❤️

The Worst Best Man: To be decided 🤩
“If you can live with that, then I‘d tell you my one remaining ‘I wish you wouldn't‘ ”.
He opens his eyes. “Which is?”
“I wish you wouldn't leave this room.”
For my #WeeklyForecast the Windowsill of Optimism isn't looking too different from last week 😂 Out-of-state family goes home Tuesday evening, so things should calm down around here a bit after that. Peaches are still going strong, but last week should have been our high-water mark with those for the season as well. Currently reading the tagged (funny so far). I should have one more week of random-draw reads before I start panic-reading all the ⬇
“ You‘re neither my first choice nor my second choice. You‘re my only choice.” 💕💕💕
I love, love, LOVED the first half. The dynamic between Max and Lina was cute, flirty, and enjoyable. The storyline was amusing and I was excited to see where it would go. However in the second half, they went to Pennsylvania and stayed over-night, this changed their relationship and kind of stripped them of their personalities . The ending was cute tho especially the rooftop scene, but it felt rushed. Overall, it was a good cliche rom-com book.
A light book after a heavy one was exactly what I needed.
"It's refreshing to speak with someone who not only relates to my experience but also doesn't think the way I respond to it is entirely flawed. Protecting yourself from hurt doesn't mean you're broken. It means you're human...Every person has to decide whether to lower their shield and when."
Read this romance in the blink of an eye. Thought it was pretty damned near perfect. Vulnerable characters, SEXY AF, & includes descriptions of mouthwatering Brazilian food as an added bonus. Will definitely be looking for more from Mia Sosa.
Loved this book so much! A fun sassy sex positive read with amazing characters! I can‘t wait to read more from her!
My Make It Modern pick for the #ChallengingDamsels reading challenge. Sooo good!
Update: also my pick for #ReadTheStates Washington DC

Cute novella, loved that it didn‘t have a big conflict at the end.
I tore through this rom-com super fast! A few years after being left at the altar, Lina is up for a job that leaves her collaborating with (the worst!) Best Man, her ex's brother who was apparently behind the breakup. We see two people who despite some misunderstandings, use their words to communicate and act like adults. This one pulls out some common tropes and while they're not groundbreaking, they sure are fun! ⬇️
Read completely like a rom-com movie complete with history, family drama, occupational obstacles, personal triumph/reflection. Would totally watch it too, except for all the descriptive open door sex scenes lol

1. We don't really celebrate, so I'm not expecting anything. Maybe a card.
2. I finished Beauty and the Beast, need to read The Worst Best Man, then might squeeze in some hockey smut and a Highlander romance.

I finished this book the other day.
I thought it was a cute book. Gets a little steamy at times. Great start to February.

A heartwarming and sassy romcom filled with smart, kind characters, mild family drama and a bit of Brazilian spice. Loved all the food tidbits and event planning nods; such a fun read! #FoodandLit #BookspinBingo @TheAromaofBooks @Texreader @Butterfinger

This book was exactly what I needed and expected- a cute romance, a protagonist that causes a little bit of exasperation, and a predictable ending!
Cute romance about a woman who has to work with the former best man at her own wedding, which didn‘t happen.
Enjoyed this on audio! Especially since it‘s set in Washington DC and references familiar landmarks not everyone knows (e.g. the Brazilian restaurant in Adams Morgan called The Grill From Ipanema.)
This was...meh. I liked Lina a lot, but the chemistry between her & Max was...fine. I wasn‘t riveted by their heart-to-hearts, nor was I invested all that much in their future. I think this stems from the fact that this was specifically marketed as an “enemies-to-lovers” romance, & this is more... “lukewarm-to-lovers.” Way less enticing. Also, the writing felt really awkward & the plot SUPER contrived. All in all, more miss than hit for me. ★★½.
#currentlyreading | switching gears to good, fun enemies-to-lovers trope for a bit!
⭐️⭐️⭐️My favorite aspect was having a Brazilian Afro-Lantina as the main character & experiencing that culture. While a lot of this book was a bit over the top, I liked that the big 11th hour conflict wasn‘t ridiculous &didn‘t stem from a very obvious misunderstanding.Their hesitations made sense to me, and I wasn‘t expecting that part to be as subtle as it was. So, not a stand out, but a fun, quick read, and I‘d read more from Sosa in the future.
I love weddings. I work at a wedding venue part time and was so excited for this book since the main character was a wedding planner. I was really let down by this book though it was slow and dragged at some points. It had the potential to be good but it just fell short for me.
One down fifteen more romances left to read in August. Starting this one tomorrow morning.
The perfect RomCom❤️ I loved Lina family and friends they were hilarious. I loved learning a little bit more about Brazilian culture. I loved how Lina and Max fell in love. This was my first Mia Sosa book ANS Im looking forward to reading more.
Lina‘s own wedding proved disappointing when the groom decided against marrying, but that doesn‘t stop her from coordinating weddings. Now, she has a chance for a life-changing career opportunity—except she has to work with Max, her ex-groom‘s brother who may have said a thing or two that caused her jilting. The complicated enemies-to-lovers romance that comes out of their time together is highly entertaining. #bookspinbingo #readblackauthors
I really enjoyed this romance read - it was just fluffy enough to perk me up and had enough substance in the characters to make it feel real. Enemies to friends trope, a no-shit-taking Afro-Brazilian heroine, and a hero who is remarkably self-aware and open to new ideas. I will be looking for more of Sosa‘s work.
Loved this #romance #audiobook! Sosa did an incredible job piecing together my fav romance tropes (enemies-to-lovers & off-limits, with a touch of fake relationship & forced proximity) w/ creative twists. I loved how Sosa addressed Lina's emotional shield and how negative stereotypes about Black & Latinx women played into her reluctance to be vulnerable. Also wonderfully done: Lina's career plot & close relationship w/ her Afro-Brazilian family.
We read this for our romance book club, and our discussion was so much fun! Loved the relationship between Lina and Max, the push and pull, the sexy and the snarky. I would have liked to see Lina and her former almost mother in law meeting again, but otherwise this was a fun swoony read!
Super cute rom-com! I do seem to love the enemies to lovers trope and Max and Lina didn‘t disappoint. I loved the Brazilian culture that was mixed in and the Portuguese banter between Lina and her family.

2. Full time as an Activities Coordinator in a memory unit in an assisted living facility (we've been lucky here so far!), and part time as a bookseller- just hosting Zoom book clubs atm.
3. My days look pretty much the same, just less running around.

I‘m a sucker for an enemies to lovers trope, but this felt so forced to me. It had its moments of cuteness and being funny, but something felt like it was missing from the book. I wish I felt more connected with the characters as well.

I loved this book! It's a fun romance that genuinely made me laugh out loud. If you like enemies to lovers and workplace romance tropes with tons of sassy banter and FOOD this book is for you.

Enemies to loves, a dash of forced proximity, and a cinnamon roll-alpha hybrid.
Yes, please & thank you!
Wanted to love this, instead just liked it. I didn‘t think it was as funny as the write ups suggested. Would read more from this author though. Oh and I liked the Washington DC setting - partly because I‘ve been there so I could really imagine it.
