The Worst Best Man
The Worst Best Man | Mia Sosa
Critically acclaimed author Mia Sosa delivers a sassy, steamy enemies-to-lovers romantic comedy about a woman whose new job requires her to work side-by-side with the best man who ruined her wedding: her ex-fianc's infuriating, irritating, annoyingly handsome brother. Perfect for fans of Jasmine Guillory, Helen Hoang, and Sally Thorne! A wedding planner left at the altar. Yeah, the irony isn't lost on Carolina Santos, either. But despite that embarrassing blip from her past, Lina's managed to make other people's dreams come true as a top-tier wedding coordinator in DC. After impressing an influential guest, she's offered an opportunity that could change her life. But there's just one hitch... she has to collaborate with the best (make that worst) man from her own failed nuptials. Tired of living in his older brother's shadow, marketing expert Max Hartley is determined to make his mark with a coveted hotel client looking to expand its brand. But then he learns he'll be working with his brother's whip-smart, stunning--absolutely off-limits--ex-fiance. And she loathes him. If they can survive the next few weeks and nail their presentation without killing each other, they'll both come out ahead. Except Max has been public enemy number one ever since he encouraged his brother to jilt the bride, and Lina's ready to dish out a little payback of her own. Soon they discover animosity may not be the only emotion creating sparks between them and the more time they spend together, the more Lina realizes she may be wrong about Max. But this star-crossed couple can never be anything other than temporary playmates because Lina isn't interested in falling in love and Max refuses to play runner-up to his brother ever again.

I love a cute romance that is set in a DC that feels like my city and there are no politicians. That being said, I accidentally read this series out of order, so this is the first one but I read it second. Still fun!

For my #WeeklyForecast the Windowsill of Optimism isn't looking too different from last week 😂 Out-of-state family goes home Tuesday evening, so things should calm down around here a bit after that. Peaches are still going strong, but last week should have been our high-water mark with those for the season as well. Currently reading the tagged (funny so far). I should have one more week of random-draw reads before I start panic-reading all the ⬇

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) books I “have“ to read for August!! I think The It Girl is due back at the library week after next, so it will probably have a high priority this week. I can't believe how fast August is slipping by!!!

I love, love, LOVED the first half. The dynamic between Max and Lina was cute, flirty, and enjoyable. The storyline was amusing and I was excited to see where it would go. However in the second half, they went to Pennsylvania and stayed over-night, this changed their relationship and kind of stripped them of their personalities . The ending was cute tho especially the rooftop scene, but it felt rushed. Overall, it was a good cliche rom-com book.

Read this romance in the blink of an eye. Thought it was pretty damned near perfect. Vulnerable characters, SEXY AF, & includes descriptions of mouthwatering Brazilian food as an added bonus. Will definitely be looking for more from Mia Sosa.

monalyisha Note: While Lina works with lots of queer couples, helping to create their dream weddings, the sex described within the story is all *very* hetero. Could be off-putting for some. 3y

I tore through this rom-com super fast! A few years after being left at the altar, Lina is up for a job that leaves her collaborating with (the worst!) Best Man, her ex's brother who was apparently behind the breakup. We see two people who despite some misunderstandings, use their words to communicate and act like adults. This one pulls out some common tropes and while they're not groundbreaking, they sure are fun! ⬇️

Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick We get a steamy romp with two people who both have something to prove in their collaboration & actually use their words to communicate with each other! I'm not sure if some of Lina's Brazilian culture references are stereotypical or over the top, but it was a nice nod to the character's heritage.

1. We don't really celebrate, so I'm not expecting anything. Maybe a card.

2. I finished Beauty and the Beast, need to read The Worst Best Man, then might squeeze in some hockey smut and a Highlander romance.

This was...meh. I liked Lina a lot, but the chemistry between her & Max was...fine. I wasn‘t riveted by their heart-to-hearts, nor was I invested all that much in their future. I think this stems from the fact that this was specifically marketed as an “enemies-to-lovers” romance, & this is more... “lukewarm-to-lovers.” Way less enticing. Also, the writing felt really awkward & the plot SUPER contrived. All in all, more miss than hit for me. ★★½.

⭐️⭐️⭐️My favorite aspect was having a Brazilian Afro-Lantina as the main character & experiencing that culture. While a lot of this book was a bit over the top, I liked that the big 11th hour conflict wasn‘t ridiculous &didn‘t stem from a very obvious misunderstanding.Their hesitations made sense to me, and I wasn‘t expecting that part to be as subtle as it was. So, not a stand out, but a fun, quick read, and I‘d read more from Sosa in the future.

I love weddings. I work at a wedding venue part time and was so excited for this book since the main character was a wedding planner. I was really let down by this book though it was slow and dragged at some points. It had the potential to be good but it just fell short for me.

Lina‘s own wedding proved disappointing when the groom decided against marrying, but that doesn‘t stop her from coordinating weddings. Now, she has a chance for a life-changing career opportunity—except she has to work with Max, her ex-groom‘s brother who may have said a thing or two that caused her jilting. The complicated enemies-to-lovers romance that comes out of their time together is highly entertaining. #bookspinbingo #readblackauthors

I really enjoyed this romance read - it was just fluffy enough to perk me up and had enough substance in the characters to make it feel real. Enemies to friends trope, a no-shit-taking Afro-Brazilian heroine, and a hero who is remarkably self-aware and open to new ideas. I will be looking for more of Sosa‘s work.

Crazeedi This title made me laugh, I have an old old friend who says shes my "worst best friend" ? 5y
ravenlee @Crazeedi that‘s funny - my best friend from college and I always say we‘re the worst people, which actually makes us the best people - because we don‘t BS each other and don‘t have time for games. But we‘re always there for each other. 5y

Loved this #romance #audiobook! Sosa did an incredible job piecing together my fav romance tropes (enemies-to-lovers & off-limits, with a touch of fake relationship & forced proximity) w/ creative twists. I loved how Sosa addressed Lina's emotional shield and how negative stereotypes about Black & Latinx women played into her reluctance to be vulnerable. Also wonderfully done: Lina's career plot & close relationship w/ her Afro-Brazilian family.

We read this for our romance book club, and our discussion was so much fun! Loved the relationship between Lina and Max, the push and pull, the sexy and the snarky. I would have liked to see Lina and her former almost mother in law meeting again, but otherwise this was a fun swoony read!

I‘m a sucker for an enemies to lovers trope, but this felt so forced to me. It had its moments of cuteness and being funny, but something felt like it was missing from the book. I wish I felt more connected with the characters as well.
