2 good stories that don‘t come together enough to form 1 cohesive novel. As 2 stand alones-1 murder mystery featuring a strong, relatable mother who has survived domestic violence, & 1 moving, thought-provoking YA novel about a LGBTQIA teen, these would be excellent reads. Thrown together, neither strand of the overly-ambitious book lives up to its potential. Carrie Coon narrates the murder mystery chapters of the audiobook well. #3stars #mystery

I enjoyed Hanna‘s sarcastic demeanor, and who doesn‘t love a cookie bakery & a moody cat, but it honestly felt like a generic cozy. Strong setting can make a cozy stand out, but descriptions of Lake Eden weren‘t particularly vivid or memorable. Narrator was good. #3stars #teamread #mystery #scarathalon22 #TeamSlaughter #31by31

Cute, clever book with fun collages and witty stories. The recipes, however, are uneven and sometimes lack detail. More a fun reflection on dating life than a usable cookbook (I made 4 of the recipes, ever.) #datinglife #youadult #3stars

Fine beach read . Yet author didn‘t make me feel invested in the characters. At times it reminded me of “The Guest List” and at one point of the original novel “The Flight Attendant,” and both of those have better characters and tension. I saw/heard the ending coming. Narrator did a good job, though. #3stars #mystery #characterization

Pickpick

Finished the short story "Up In Michigan" by Ernest Hemingway this afternoon; talk about a conversation-starter. This one checks off book/story 40/50 for 2020. Shouldn't be too long until I surpass this year's goal!!

I‘m a sucker for an enemies to lovers trope, but this felt so forced to me. It had its moments of cuteness and being funny, but something felt like it was missing from the book. I wish I felt more connected with the characters as well.

Clockwork Prince | Cassandra Clare

Lockdown reading day 4:

28th March, 2020

Not as good as 1st bk in the trilogy Clockwork Angel. Clockwork Prince literally had no plot, just some angsty love triangle between Jem, Tessa & Will. It felt more like opportunistic love, like Tessa was simply stringing the guys along, but then at 16 it's expected I guess, am not sure.

I didn‘t pick this for any of my #BOTM books because I had mixed feelings on how I may like it. I‘m glad I didn‘t get it and listened to the audiobook. I felt that the writing was well done as well as the storytelling. However, I felt bored a lot of the times and no connection to the characters. It was just okay.

PSreads73 I almost picked this one. It sounded interesting with the Mayan mythology mixed in with the Jazz age. Glad I didn‘t chose it if it‘s boring. 5y

Just finished this classic .. it was kind of a slow read. No exciting events not really anything special I personally think it‘s overrated , however it taught me new perspectives in life and it was interesting to live in the point of view of a child (scout) and see how innocent and simple children‘s thoughts really are .. #classic #literature #tokillamockingbird #whitegurl #starbucks #3stars

Didn‘t enjoy this one as much as I expected. The story and the settings are unique & interesting. However, the main character and her narrative voice (too mature & sophisticated for a poor uneducated 9-year old) made it very difficult for me to engage with the book. My decision to listen to the audiobook was a mistake as I really hated the narrator and her circus of accents.
