Before I get into the review, I want to preface when this first came out, I dnfed the book. I decided to try it again this time with an audiobook. I enjoyed it a bit more. I did find characters to be whiny still and a lot of bad judgement with a lot of finger pointing. I did like the pace of the story and the political intrigue.

I‘m a sucker for an enemies to lovers trope, but this felt so forced to me. It had its moments of cuteness and being funny, but something felt like it was missing from the book. I wish I felt more connected with the characters as well.

I can honestly say that to begin with I really struggled with this. Once I got past the half way mark it was a whole different ball game! I started to enjoy it a lot more. There are a lot of characters and multi faceted stories all intertwined so at times it is hard to keep up if not focused. All in all it turned out to be an enjoyable read and I am definitely pleased I saw this through to the end. #onceuponariver #justfinished #threestars

The premise is good, however it fell very flat. The action was not intense and I guessed what was going to happen mid way. It was still enjoyable though.

Ugh. I hate giving this a so-so but it got so boring towards the last 3rd of the book and the end was just terrible. It got so predictable that I grew really bored. Yates writing is great so maybe I'll try his debut novel Black Chalk but I'm so glad to be done with this one. #springreads #thrillers #threestars

This book is going to make such a fantastic movie, and I can't wait to see how they interpret it for the big screen. The book itself is fine. It's got great characters and the world is so developed, but it's also dry, slow, and fairly dense. The first half of the book drags a bit, and there's a lot more talking than action. But not bad over all, will probably check out the next one.
