Forgot to take a picture of the book before returning it to the library so I‘ll send you a photo of a frosty window from the other day when it was -13F. The best part of this book for me was that the interlibrary loan came to Vermont from a tiny library in NY. I was surprised it wasn‘t available anywhere in my state. Sadly I couldn‘t get past the halfway point. It was way too slow for me. Watch it win the #ToB21. 🥴😳

Before I get into the review, I want to preface when this first came out, I dnfed the book. I decided to try it again this time with an audiobook. I enjoyed it a bit more. I did find characters to be whiny still and a lot of bad judgement with a lot of finger pointing. I did like the pace of the story and the political intrigue.

I‘m a sucker for an enemies to lovers trope, but this felt so forced to me. It had its moments of cuteness and being funny, but something felt like it was missing from the book. I wish I felt more connected with the characters as well.

No Beast So Fierce recounts the dangerous hunt for a tiger that killed more than 400 people in Nepal and India in the early 1900s.

Though parts of the book are gripping, there were too many places where the author seems to be basing the storytelling on assumptions rather than historical sources. (“Surely, he would have felt...” / “Next, the tiger likely...”)

I love the dragons in the book. I loved the dual POVs. I did not love the love story and felt like there was a lot of dull moments sprinkled throughout the novel. Will I read the next book? Maybe. I‘ll have to see.

I really wanted to like this one. It lives in that odd limbo of not-quite-personal-enough to be a memoir and not in-depth enough to be a useful guide. I think it‘s probably aiming for the new graduate demographic — very surface-level advice and a lot of self-deprecating (and parent-deprecating) asides.

Just finished. Started off with a PROMISE: ❤️ New Orleans; volunteer work; a quirky, 16YO Latina Shakespeare-loving narrator, running from mysterious family drama... Meets a hot banjo player she calls “Miles” at Mid-Summer Mardi Gras. They spend an enchanted evening together...until a storm hits & everything goes to hell. I found solving the mystery of her backstory more interesting than the romance. Outcome was anticlimactic. #soso #YARomance

Honestly, I only liked the beginning and the ending. The middle part of the book felt very slow and I had a very hard time connecting with the characters. I do want to see where book two will take the plot.
