I tried to think of other books beyond Jane Eyre, Little House on the Prairie, Anne of Green Gables, Little Women, and The Witch of Blackbird Pond (annual treasures growing up) and came up with these three books (series):
1. All-of-a-Kind Family by Sydney Taylor
2. Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card
3. The Warrior's Apprentice by Lois McMaster Bujold
The first is from my childhood; the other two I read as an adult.

Thank you @Eggs for the WondrousWednesday tag! 🤗
1️⃣ Not at all. My dad said I was named for actress Deborah Kerr because he liked her, but they didn‘t even spell it the same! (I‘m Debra) The middle name Ann went with it.
(OK, bonus geek points if you know what movie this quote is from: “Oh God. Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr. Is that Karr or Kerr?”😆
2️⃣ 7–I‘m the youngest of 8 👶🏻
3️⃣ My all-time fave family book/series💙

1. Sort of. My mom and aunt were pregnant at roughly the same time. My aunt wanted a girl whom she planned on naming “Denise.“ My mom had me before my aunt had her child, and she named me “Denise“. Nice, Mom! Luckily, my aunt had a boy. 😂
2. I have 3 sisters and no brothers. I am third.
3. The tagged. I adored these books as a child. 🤩
Delightful story of a New York City family with 5 daughters and a 6th child on the way. We get a peak into their lives, their holidays, visits to the library etc. These kids love books, and for the most part love and protect each other.

It‘s such a delight to read my childhood favorites with my kids, but there‘s something even more wonderful in discovering a new treasure together. I don‘t know how I missed this a kid, but it‘s lovely & we‘ve already started the next book in the series! It‘s about a Jewish family of 5 little girls growing up on the Lower East Side of NYC in 1912. The storylines about the local librarian, scarlet fever & their friends Charlie were all memorable.
This week on my book podcast, I fulfill two frequent listener requests: 1.) a discussion about the landmark ALL-OF-A-KIND FAMILY and 2.) a sit-down with the wonderful Taleen Voskuni. This long-awaited combo won‘t disappoint! Listen at the link in my bio!
I think I would've really enjoyed these stories when I was a young girl! Five sisters in a Jewish family in New York. They're cute, slice-of-life stories. Worth the read if you need something light-hearted! :) #MensaKidsExcellenceInReading K-3
Book 1 of one of my favorite series. Happy Hanukkah to all who celebrate!
#WinterReadathon #WinterReadathonDailyChallenge
Though I‘ve reread this several times both as a child and as an adult, I never really get sick of it. It‘s actually an incredibly good piece of children‘s historical fiction giving you an insight into both NY‘s Lower East Side at the turn of the century, and into Jewish culture. I‘m thinking I may reread the rest of the series this year. #WinterGames2021 #TeamGameSleighers @StayCurious

One of my favorite childhood series about a #family with 5 daughters spaced two years apart. Ella, Henny, Sarah, Charlotte, and Gertie. It‘s set in the early 1900s on the Lower East Side of New York City. ❤️
Part one of library discard #bookhaul is five of the All-of-a-Kind Family series. I‘ve read two and found them charming. I think there are still a couple missing, but this is the bulk of the series.
Day 8 of #20Series20Days #Top20Series I didn‘t discover this series until I was an adult, but I 💚 it. If you like #BetsyTacy, you‘ll like this. 😊

Mahalo to @tpixie for tagging me on this challenge of 7 books that impacted me over 7 days. 🤗📚
The All-of-a-Kind family books, especially the tagged first books were a repeat library book check out for me when I was really young & I think they helped make me a lover of historical fiction today. 💙
Since I‘m late to the party as per usual, I‘ll tag anyone who wants to play along to tag their 7 books over 7 days. 😉
A favorite chapter book of mine as a child! It was from this book that I learned about the celebrations and traditions of Passover and other Jewish holidays.

Didn't manage to complete 1 season like I wanted for #booked2020 but jumped around. Found 3 new series I'd not heard of before thanks to the prompts Enzo Files, Lost & Found and All of a kind family loved both

Off for a few days and all my holds came in! #librarybookhaul
It could have been a sweet read about the charms of bygone days, a la Little House on the Prairie or Little Women, but I found the stories mediocre. We did audiobook and the recorded quality was poor, with a narrator I had to play sped up, so that could have been part of the problem. The most interesting were the descriptions of traditions. As a parent, I was annoyed that Henny always seemed to get away with being a brat.
I would have loved this story as a kid, when I devoured stories of olden times, families, and scrimping and scraping to get by. Even now, this story of five Jewish sisters and their parents in 1912 New York City holds up better than many other similar narratives. The girls‘ adoration of their “library lady” doesn‘t hurt either 😊
I really enjoyed this book. It‘s a little quaint, but I read the first chapter to the kiddo and she‘s looking forward to reading the rest. I like that the family is Jewish and we get a look at their holidays and observances, because that‘s a perspective we don‘t read much. I‘m happy to have discovered this, and especially that the library had it!
Just started this. I never read these as a kid, and I‘m sort of previewing them for the kiddo. I have seen them used in homeschool curricula, but the religious ones not the secular (there‘s a set of curricula that have Christian/secular options, and this book is one of the differences), so I thought I‘d@give it a try. So far I love it!
I just spent *way* too long making collages of the 26 books I read in May! I‘m going to share more details on my 8 favorites.

I‘m sorry I‘ve been MIA this week! It has been nutso around here. But I just wanted to share this adorable moment — Last night, I told the girls I‘d read them a chapter of our current #readaloud while the girls were wrapping presents for Noel‘s birthday today. Coincidentally, last night‘s chapter was entitled “Papa‘s Birthday”, which was just amazingly appropriate! 📚🎉 #raisingreaders
My kids loved this book. They're begging me to get the next one in the series 😂 it's a wonderful story.
1. I loved this book as a child. 2. Most of my #family is not related by blood ❤️❤️❤️❤️ #gratitude30
Surely between Ella, Henny, Sarah, Charlotte, & Gertie, someone is #7years old 💕 I loved this book as a child so I snatched it right up when I found it this summer in a Little Free Library.
#SeptemberDanes
Yesterday‘s $1 find! There‘s a farmer‘s market by me hosted in a church parking lot and inside they also host a used book sale with all $ earned donated to a local food pantry. It‘s always open during market hours, so I usually can‘t resist poking around when I go (♻️ & for a good cause!) — I was about to leave when I found this gem. The dust jacket is oddly large, so the top edge is crinkled, but the inside is like new even at 60+ years old!
I forgot why I loved this book so much! So happy that #booked2018 brought me back to it! Five little girls and there were five little girls in my house! They go to the Library every week. Just like me! This book art shows the girls shopping for the perfect birthday gift for their father. With Father‘s Day just around the corner, I thought it was perfect! Heartwarming. Kindness. Love. #childhoodfavorite
P.S. This should be a review. 🤷♀️
This was a favorite book of mine as a child, so I decided to find it for #booked2018 #childhoodfavorite
4 favorites from my childhood #memory. In particular l loved the featured title All-Of-A-Kind Family because it was so exotic for a kid in suburban So Cal in the 1970s: Historical New York! Judaism! Penny Candy! Street Cars!

I‘m so glad I chose to read this one for #booked2018 #childhoodfavorite. I loved this as a child and I‘m happy to say the magic is still there as an adult! Ella, Henny, Sarah, Charlotte, and Gertie are just as endearing. I love the closeness of their family (sleeping five to a room is something I‘ve greatly romanticized 😂) and the historical period is right up my alley. I also love the inclusion of all the Jewish tradition and history.
I decided to kick off April by picking up one of my favorite childhood books for #booked2018. I love this tale of five sisters and since the youngest is Gertie, I tried to get my Gertie involved in a photo opp. She was quite confused. 😂
Borrowed this from my daughter for the #throwbackreadathon. I loved this series, but my small local library only had three of the five. I tracked down all five for my girl‘s birthday 5 or 6 years ago.
Day22 #MayBookFlowers #childlike I've posted about them before & I'm recycling the pics as it's been a Monday, 😬 but I adored these books in childhood. I sought them out & have reread them many times as an adult & they still give me those childlike feelings of joy in reading. After the Bobbsey Twins & The Happy Hollisters & before Nancy Drew was Trixie Belden & she remains my fave, as do The Borrowers & the sisters of the All-of-a-Kind Family📚💜

#Day22 #AugustBookChallenge #innocence The All-of-a-Kind Family books are the epitome of innocence. I adored these books as a child & carted them home often from the library. I shared a love of books & libraries w/ Ella, Henny, Sarah, Charlotte & Gertie but little else as they were from the early 1900s, Jewish & from the Lower East Side of Manhattan & I found them fascinating. Reading them now, I'm transported back to my childhood library days❤️📚
#funphotofriday This was one of my most loved when I was a kid. The story of a Jewish family with 5 daughters growing up in the Lower East Side in the early 1900's.
I ❤️ this entire series and pull it out all the time for a "comfort read". Am I the only nerd that reads childhood faves?
If you're looking for things for an elementary aged reader this summer, add this series to your list. Timeless, engrossing stories about a big, loving, Jewish family in 1900s NY. I still remember picking which of the sisters I wanted to be, and wishing I could buy penny candy like they did.
