Locke & Key Volume 6: Alpha & Omega
Locke & Key Volume 6: Alpha & Omega | Joe Hill
2015 Bram Stoker Award Nominee! The shadows have never been darker and the end has never been closer. Turn the key and open the last door; it's time to say goodbye. Omega and Alpha, the final two storylines of the New York Times bestselling series, are collected together to offer a thunderous and compelling conclusion to Locke & Key. An event not to be missed! It took two lifetimes and countless victims, but Lucas "Dodge" Caravaggio has his terrible prize at last: the key which will open The Black Door. Disguised in the form of little Bode Locke, Dodge descends into the Drowning Cave to throw back the door and release the demons on the other side. Those who have stood against him for so long - Tyler, Kinsey, Scot, Nina, Rufus, and all the rest - take their places as the final tragedy unfolds... a confrontation between decency and hate in the caverns a hundred-feet beneath Keyhouse, at the threshold of an evil kept for generations under lock and key!

I thought this was one of the better books in the series. As with the others, there is some gore. The illustrations are done very well.

We have had our first real snowfall of the season. Which means people forgot how to drive again. Which means I‘m not leaving my house today. I have been saving this book for just such a day.

squirrelbrain Snow?! Whereabouts are you? 4y
JacqMac @squirrelbrain Calgary. It‘s actually late this year. I‘m hoping that means winter won‘t be as awful as usual. But probably not. 4y
squirrelbrain Ah, that makes sense! I‘ve been to Calgary but only on an airport stopover on the way to Vancouver.... 🤣 4y

Trashcanman Well that sucks 4y
Andrew65 Snow 🥶🙈 4y
Buechersuechtling With people forgetting how to drive it‘s the same where I live. But my area admittedly doesn‘t have “real” snow ❄️ (in huge amounts, or even a closed snow cover for more than half a day) very often. Snow is kind of something special here. And that‘s why I always thought that in places where more snow than 3 flakes happen regularly, people aren‘t making such a fuss about snow. Well, apparently I am _completely_ wrong – (1/2) 4y
Buechersuechtling – but I love your coping strategy, Jacqueline. 😃 Clever girl. Happy reading‼️📖 (2/2) 4y

Whenever I get to the end of a series that I've enjoyed, I always procrastinate on the last book. I've learned that the ending is so crucial to me it'll make or break the entire series, and sometimes I want to hang on just a little longer before I know the truth.

What a great ending to the series! I really enjoyed riding along with these characters through this magical world. Well done, right to the end.

This is such an emotionally satisfying volume to wrap up this series. I felt like I was racing through the last couple of volumes trying to make it through the series, but now I'm sad that it's over, especially because Hill and Rodriguez stuck the landing so well with this one. I appreciate the character nuance and development in this series so much, and these characters have left a mark on my heart for sure. 🗝

phantomx Definitely read the short stories next! I loved reading this series, and I'm excited to see more of Joe Hill's graphic novels coming out this year. Did you know he sold the actual keys to fans while he was working on Locke & Key? 4y
thestarlesscasea @phantomx I didn't know that, that's awesome! I also didn't know about the short stories, so I'll have to get on those soon 🗝 4y

"Saved but not saved. Okay but not okay. Isn't that just completely fucking human?"

"You ever find a cat sleeping in a ray of sun? There's a sound over there. It's a golden sound. That's the only way to describe it. It's a bright sound, and it has little flecks of music in it, drifting like motes of dust. And you just know if you let that sound get inside you, if you hummed along with it, you'd rest like a cat in the sun. A perfect rest."

On prom night, Dodge finally has the Omega key to open the Black Door in the caves. And in his favor, he has all the keys and the Crown of Shadows. Ty and Kinsey repair their relationships with friends. Then, they are swept into chaos, and Dodge reveals to his ultimate plan. Luckily, Ty constructs a key that aids him in getting Dodge back into the Wellhouse. In the end, past mistakes and old wounds are mended, and the Locke family is reunited.

This is the best graphic novel series I‘ve read in a very long time. It reminds me of early Clive Barker in that there‘s a clever mix of magic, fantasy, and horror. This final volume wrapped everything up perfectly.

I‘m excited to watch the Netflix series now (although trepidatious as I‘ve heard it‘s not as good.)

Thank you for the loan @Eyelit ! It‘s ready for you now @ThePageantHam 😊

Jerdencon I haven‘t read the graphic novel but I did enjoy the show. Will have to check out the book. 5y
mcipher The Netflix series is frustrating- the characters are all so so unlikeable and the acting is not great, but the concept is awesome so we keep watching (v slowly) 5y
LazyOwl One of my all time favourite graphic novel series. I was disappointed when I read the last one that there weren't any more to read. 5y

TEArificbooks We really liked the show. I have not read the books because the library hold on them was long. And the other day hubby said let‘s check out the show. We binged it in 2 days. 5y
ElizaMarie @mdm139 good to know! I have been super lucky with the lack of wait time for the books. I read volume 1 in October then took a break (because it was for a challenge and I had more things on my plate) but then when I had heard of the show I knew I had to finish the series!

Final volume completed late last night. Just completely blown away by this series. I think I was screaming at my Kindle when everyone seemed to not understand what really happened to Bode.

SexyCajun I'm sorry if I'm completely wrong... It just popped into my mind. Is this the one on Netflix? 5y
speljamr @SexyCajun It is. The show is good, but a bit different than the comic story. The show is also a bit less intense to make it TV-14 rated. 5y
SexyCajun @speljamr ahhhhhh. Ok. So now I have to decide which first🤷🏼‍♀️😁 5y
speljamr @SexyCajun The material in the show pulls from all 6 volumes, just FYI. They just don't do everything in perfect order of the comic. And some stuff from the comic doesn't show up at all. 5y

Wow, that series was a punch in the gut in all sorts of ways. This had horror, mystery, romance, drama, fantasy, all of it! So many parts were hard to swallow (TW for some) in different ways but the story keeps you hooked- you want to make it through and you want the "good guys" to win. Also props to illustrator- I feel especially like this last volume was just packed, every frame required close attention.

Amazing!

“Brutal,” is what the staff at Chicago Comics told me when I bought it &, as always, they were right. At long last, Lucas (Dodge) has everything he needs to unlock The Black Door. You know nothing good can come of this, right? Tyler, Kinsey, their family & friends haven‘t given up the fight & unlikely heroes emerge in the battle that has been building since the very first issue. It does not disappoint. A good, & yes, brutal ending to a great story

Quick trip to Chicago Comics today for:

Deadpool #1—I‘ll read anything written by Skottie Young

Locke & Key Vol. 6–It‘s the end & the staff told me it‘s “brutal”

Deadly Class Vol. 5–Marcus & his fellow classmates are messed up, untrustworthy, & creepy & I totally want to know where this story going...besides what is clearly the darkest corners of the writer‘s imagination... A(very) good “I‘m not sure I should like this but I totally do” comic.

Although I'm looking forward to reading the extra volumes. Any recommendations for similar series? (Or just an awesome graphic novel series in general?) #joehill #graphicnovel #horror

Bry I‘ve just started getting into comics/graphic novels in the past couple years and this is one of my favourites too! I‘ve tried Saga, Lumberjanes, and Paper Girls and they haven‘t grabbed me quite as much as Locke & Key. I‘m interested to see what other people suggest for you. 👀 7y
JenlovesJT47 @Bry I've read all of Saga, which I really like, and most of Lumberjanes (which was just ok to me). Paper Girls is on my TBR. I like The Walking Dead but I'm all caught up now. 😭 I do have a stack of Wizard of Oz graphic novels from the library, which should be fun because I've only ever read the first book in the regular series. How did you like Paper Girls? 7y
Zelma Y: The Last Man by Brian K. Vaughan might be up your alley. 7y
See All 8 Comments
JenlovesJT47 @Zelma thank you!! 🤗 7y
TieDyeDude Y: The Last Man is definitely a good follow-up to Locke & Key. I'm really digging Sex Criminals, though the releases for new issues is really sporadic. 7y
JenlovesJT47 @GoodForCirculation thank you! Sex Criminals has been on my radar for awhile, it looks really good. Will definitely have to check out The Last Man. 🤗 7y
Bry @JenlovesJT47 I liked Paper Girls but now it‘s been a while since I read the first couple volumes and I‘ve started to forget the details😕. I think that‘s what I‘ve discovered I don‘t really like about on-going comics series. I forget what has happened in the time between when I read each issue/collection! The same thing happened with Saga (and yes, I do realize it‘s a me-problem, not a criticism of the books, themselves.) 7y
JenlovesJT47 @Bry I know what you mean, I have that problem with the Walking Dead comics. Going too long between issues plus watching the show, it gets confusing! 7y

Am I nuts or does this look like Stephen King? Well played Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez! @TricksyTails I thought I was tripping out for a second like the time I was watching Sons of Anarchy and a man who looked just like Stephen King showed up to play a small but memorable part! JenlovesJT47 @Craftylikefox @scripturient @DiruVamp @Bookladylinda that was my second thought, that it was Joe Hill, since they look SO much alike! I think it looks more like SK when he was younger but that's so cool that they put themselves in there. I can't get over how much SK and Joe Hill look alike! 7y

@Ross I finally finished this series! The pay-off is so great. Overall, I give the entire series 4 and 1/2 stars. The characters make this, along with the art. They are complex, tragic, and funny. The sibling relationships really got me. These kids love each other, have each other‘s backs, fight, and call each other out. They are there for support when their parents can‘t be.
