The Mousetrap
The Mousetrap: A Play in Two Acts | Agatha Christie
29 posts | 53 read | 13 to read
Melodrama / 5m, 3f / Int. The author comes forth with another hit about a group of strangers stranded in a boarding house during a snow storm, one of whom is a murderer. The suspects include the newly married couple who run the house, and the suspicions that are in their minds nearly wreck their perfect marriage. Others are a spinster with a curious background, an architect who seems better equipped to be a chef, a retired Army major, a strange little man who claims his car has overturned in a drift, and a jurist who makes life miserable for everyone. Into their midst comes a policeman, traveling on skis. He no sooner arrives, than the jurist is killed. Two down, and one to go. To get to the rationale of the murderer's pattern, the policeman probes the background of everyone present, and rattles a lot of skeletons. Another famous Agatha Christie switch finish! Chalk up another superb intrigue for the foremost mystery writer of her time.

I‘m about to go see the mousetrap (for the third time!) with my family later this month so I thought it would be a perfect time to read the playscript for #scarathlon. Everything about this makes me feel nostalgic and cosy - I associate Agatha Christie with my grandma so much so it‘s a perfect cosy Halloween vibe.

Mousetrap is a favourite play that‘s based on an Agatha Christie story. My favourite tipple is Diet Pepsi. I‘m a day late - 💚🐉 #marchmadness #dailychallenge

We are living in this big air conditioned room as the temp & humidity keeps climbing. Can‘t you tell by the mess on our table???! Anyway, this was the first Christie book for me when I was about 12. My first reread since then- I did not remember anything but the setting. So it felt cozy/fun/nostalgic. My dad, an avid reader, introduced me to her.

Last week, I went to a public library for the first time since January 2020 and it was glorious. I managed to finish Mousetrap before switching over to my book club book, so the rest of the stack has been taunting me 🥺 #libraryhaul #bookstack

BookishMarginalia We started going to our library again last month. Joy! 3y

First time reading an Agatha Christie book. I‘m not the kind to read much like these, but I gave it a try! This book, among other by Christie, I gave as gifts to my grandmother before she passed away in 2018. She loved mysteries, thrillers, and all that jazz, and I‘m the total opposite, lol. But I enjoyed this one and the short stories in it so much more than what I had expected. I will continue to read my grandma‘s books✨

I had “lost” this book (left it at my boyfriend‘s house a long time ago😹) and now is back in my hands✨

I really enjoyed this short story collection because they were all solid mysteries. The title story is more of a novella. There‘s 4 Miss Marple, 3 Poirot, & 1 Mr. Quin after that. This is one of Christie‘s better books. #teamslaughter #scarathlon @Clwojick 136 points

My grandma passed away two years ago and this is one of the last books I was able to buy her. She was a huge mystery and thriller genre lover while I, on the other hand, not much😹 Going to finally give it a try✨

“No, there was more than that. And so I thought of just one thing—the post, my friend. The evening post that comes at half past nine or thereabouts.”

Just how many times did the postman come ‘round back then? I remember getting a second post in the afternoon but never in the evening.

Deifio I guess being a postman back then was even more work than nowadays 😉 5y

After reading the play I want to watch it preformed. Christie has such a way with her mysteries. Keeps me on the literal edge of my seat every time.

My mom saw the play, then read the book. Now she wants me to determine what happened to the two ‘missing‘ characters. I don‘t know about anyone else, but my track record of solving AC (the OG) mysteries is not good!

At the mousetrap for the 2nd time! I came when I was about 15, I loved it so much, it‘s been almost 7 years so it‘s great to know Who Did It but not most of the plot. So I can see all the little hints I didn‘t see the first time. I‘m with a friend who‘s never seen it so it‘s fun to watch him watch it too!

Agatha Christie is just my whole childhood and comfort to me. Watching this on a cold night is like being wrapped up in a warm blanket.

Freespirit I saw this show 28 years ago on my first overseas trip and I think they said then it was the longest running stage show then!!! 6y

Visited our library yesterday for the first time since it was renovated. This is one of the reading rooms! Fantastic place! Even found copies of The Mousetrap and Death on the Nile screenplays that were checked out back in 1962!!

My very first Christie read. The lead story, “Three Blind Mice,” is set during a vicious snowstorm...and a killer is on the loose. The first line pictured. #BabyItsColdOutside #WinterWonderland

Incidentally, reading this roughly 25 years ago turned me into an Agatha Christie fan for life!

TrishB 👍🏻🥶 it certainly is today! 6y
kspenmoll That was how I discovered Christy as well ages ago ! I still have that copy. (edited) 6y

All of my reading has paid off! $75 to be exact. 😉

I somehow managed to read 17 books this summer, so all those entries helped me to win the grand prize drawing for our local library's reading program!

Happy Birthday, Agatha Christie! #OOPquote

SusanInTiburon I would have thought it was while taking a shower, but she certainly knows better than I. 8y
Mimi28 Washing dishes clears my head. I can see that, lol. And you can take notes on the paper meant for grocery lists attached to the fridge. ( Don't know if they had that back then, lol) Happy Birthday! 8y
BethFishReads No, no that's the best time to *listen* to a book 8y
BookDragon14 Or you can just skip the dishes and read! I'm reading the Murder On The Orient Express right now for school I love Agatha Christie! 8y

Have to give a shout out to my favorite mystery bookstore! New and used books. Knowledgeable staff, and amazing owners Jamie and Robin. Aunt Agatha's is in Ann Arbor, MI. #getindie

[DELETED] 2232195534 I would love to visit this bookstore. How could you not love a store called 'Aunt Agatha's'??? One day... 8y
Suzze The amazing thing is that is less than a block away from another great indie, so I can do a twofer. 8y
