Whoa. This book hurt my heart! #nonfiction for #ispybingo
This has been in my audio library since 2017! Glad I finally listened to Leah‘s unbelievable journey into and out of Scientology. She definitely did not hold back, but she was not disparaging or disrespectful. She unapologetically shares her experience and struggles with Scientology. Really a fascinating story 🎧
Well I'm new here and figured I'd share my current read. My favorite thing about this book is how Leah incorporates humor into her storytelling so that it's just not back to back horrible Scientology things. I'm only a few chapters in but I've spent about 90% of the time just laughing and saving quotes that keep me entertained.

Not suitable for work as there are a ton of f-bombs. Leah is unapologetically loud and sarcastic and it took me a bit to get used to. Once I did, I enjoyed her story more. She brought up one of the main questions I have regarding Scientology: Where is Shelly Miscavige?
“The outspoken actress, talk show host, and reality television star offers up a no-holds-barred memoir, including an eye-opening insider account of her tumultuous and heart-wrenching 30-year-plus association with the Church of Scientology.”
Leah‘s career brought her in contact with other celebrity Scientologists and so the two topics are entwined. I did find some of her stories of her acting and tv life interesting. It was frustrating, angering, and sad for Leah as she learned of more and more transgressions of higher authorities in the church. Cont in comments...
Leah Remini is open, honest, sarcastic, and entertaining. Listening to her memoir is like sitting around a kitchen table chatting with a friend. I heard rumors about some of the evils of Scientology over 20 years ago, and after watching Leah‘s TV program about Scientology, the chapters focused on the cult were not surprising. The book was still informative and I appreciate her candor about her experiences both as an actress and with Scientology.
Highly recommend if you have any interest in learning about Scientology from the inside. It‘s wild and horrifying, and even though they would disagree it‘s most definitely a cult.
I came away from this book with the impression that I would like Leah Remini. "Belief and faith are great, but very few people have been led astray by thinking for themselves." I have to admire a person who came to that conclusion after having been indoctrinated into a religious cult as a child and for thirty years thereafter. People have no idea the kind of fortitude it takes to leave, let alone speak out publicly. She deserves credit.
OMG! I think Scientology is the scariest cult to me. It was such an eye-opening book. I am so glad I went down this rabbit hole!

Listened to this on my way to “girls date“ where we went to an antique shop and I found these two beauties :)
This is my next #AudioCommute book. Cults terrify me but I am so interested in them!

I have never seen any of the shows she has done with regard to Scientology, so I went into this knowing very little about it. Wow is it problematic. It does make me want to know more in the watching a train wreck sort of way. I'm glad she was able to leave, but sad for the friends she lost because of it's principles.

Been meaning to read this for a while, because Leah and her exit from Scientology spurred my interest in Scientology's policies and practices. I've learned a lot and none of it has changed my opinion about this so-called religion.

I know I used this book last month, but it was the first book I thought of for the prompt. She spilled all the tea☕ and was brave enough to tell her truth even though she knew that it could have consequences for her and her family.

Happy Monday! It was a doozy for me!
This was the best audio book!
Overall Rating 4¼⭐ | Narration 😍 = Amazing
I think Scientology is so weird, and listening to this just strengthened that belief. Such an interesting story...really makes one look at Tom Cruise in a whole new way. It felt like she never really delved into the sex scandals surrounding Scientology...I wonder if that‘s because she never dealt with anything of that nature or if she just didn‘t want to go there?
1. Yes, but not simultaneously. I will listen while I‘m driving or doing other things, but will read when I‘m able to sit and focus.
2. Audiobooks have gotten me through the pandemic. I couldn‘t focus enough to read, but I could listen whole crocheting or cleaning or playing mindless games on my phone. I was able to read so many books this way!!
I tagged my favorite audiobook

Here‘s my #bookspin stuff! I‘m so late posting it, but have made a lot of progress, so more posts coming! 🤦🏻♀️😆📚 #doublespin #bookbingo @TheAromaofBooks
This is a book I instantly wanted to read. You have always heard weird things about Scientology. I love how she was open and raw with it. And the stuff in there is pretty crazy.
This was my #bookspin title. It was interesting. I‘m glad I listened to it on audio because Leah‘s voice is so distinctive and I think it made a huge difference to actually hear her saying these things. This isn‘t my usual reading fare and, but I‘m giving it a pick because I learned things, and I found it credible. #readyourway #crushtherush #wintergames2020 #teamreadnosedreindeer
Finished the tagged book today so that‘s it for November. #novemberwrapup
I'm glad I've finally taken the time to dive into this book as it's been of interest to me since its initial publication. I never understood how someone could get mixed up in this church, but Remini does a great job of breaking down the taught beliefs of the religion and what might feel appealing. It was fascinating to read of her experiences from childhood to when she left a few years ago, and I respect her so much for getting out and sharing.
Finally working on Oct. 31 of my October Daily and finishing this up!
A fascinating read about life with Scientology.
http://vonniesreadingcorner.blogspot.com/2020/07/audiobook-review-troublemaker-s...
This is a really interesting book! Remini talks about her life in the Church if Scientology and the events that lead to her leaving, the effects it had on her life and family, and how her life has changed in the years after her departure. I‘ve always liked Remini as an actress, now I like and respect her as a person. I finished the audio book in a day, couldn‘t stop listening to it!
I listened to the audiobook so Leah‘s voice would be part of my experience. She is a wonderful storyteller. Her truth, humor, frustration, anguish, anger, and love flowed through her story. I can‘t resolve with a belief where shunning my family is even a remote requirement so I guess I‘m an SP from the get-go.
Leah Remini holds nothing back in this biography. Her upbringing in a Scientology family, to her time in the Sea Org, and her celebrity status in the Church of Scientology. She uncovers the corruption and sketchiness that is the church and all the people she saw hurt and destroyed along the way. Her experiences that would eventually lead her to leaving the church and beginning a quest to destroy it!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I‘ve had this one for a while but it didn‘t get of the shelf until now. I‘ve seen some of her tv shows documenting her experience and I read one other book on this topic too. Her story fits into the experience of so many others. I respect her courage to speak up and stand against the treatment she experienced personally and the mistreatment of others.
I loved Leah‘s candor and sense of humor while listening to the audiobook. She is flawed, knows it and lets others see it. She‘s a human being. I‘ve seen her A&E show as well and it‘s very eye opening to something I‘ve already known was a cult to me.
Audiobook. Read by the author. Was expecting more of an expose about Scientology, and her life as a Scientologist. Finished the book with more questions, unlike other religions I'm been curious about, too afraid to do an internet search. The Tom Cruise stuff was fascinating. Might have taken the long way in a few errands to finish that story. Also, I figured the stuff would have been true, otherwise, I imagine Tom would have prevented publishing
I read this book because I wanted to hear her take on Scientology. Overall it was okay and I'm glad I read it l. Sometimes hard to follow the Scientology system.
As someone that recently moved from Clearwater, FL, I've always been interested in learning more about scientologists... especially when I was seated across the street, watching them walk by nonstop as I sip my coffee. Leah Remini's Troublemaker gave great insights to the everyday life of a scientologist and what intrigues one to join and stay with scientology. I enjoyed this read!
After watching some of her show on a&e I had to put a hold on this audiobook! Enjoying listening to this while sitting outside on a beautiful Friday! 😎
3.5/5
Finished my 2nd audiobook for #BookFitnessChallenge! I‘m so glad I listened to this on audio instead of reading it. Funny and authentic, I enjoyed Leah Remini‘s narration. I appreciated her humor and honesty. I watched the HBO documentary as well as her own docu-series on A&E, so I am familiar with the crazy that is Scientology. But, it was interesting to hear more about her personal experience.
Devoured this!!!
Scientology is always stranger than fiction
#BookMail Pt12 The penultimate book in this months #BookHaul is Leah Remini memoir about growing up in Scientology before getting out & becoming its most outspoken critic. I watched her on King Of Queens for years, now I watch her Aftermath show every week. She‘s so passionate about helping those that “church” abuses so badly, it breaks my heart to see what they‘ve gone through. I‘m sure this book will be filled with the same fire & attitude.
I really enjoyed this memoir. Remini does a great job of showing why she & her family were attracted to Scientology, how she came to see the ways it was failing her & others, the painful process of breaking away, & coming to terms with everything after. I enjoyed her brashness, her wit, & her heart. This is a great listen.
I love memoirs read by the author. And I find the study of cults fascinating.
⭐⭐⭐✨/⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I've never watched King of Queens so you certainly don't need to be a Remini fan to enjoy this memoir about her experience in the Church Cult of Scientology. It's only about 7 hours on audio and having her read it, in that voice 😄, definitely adds to the enjoyment. And yes Scientology is 🍌🍌🍌
For once I'm actually ahead in my yearly reading challenge!
By the way, Troublemaker is great as an audiobook!
Wow! This memoir was eye opening. Scientology is so mysterious but Leah Remini describes how people get started in it, what happens when they stay, and why it‘s hard to leave. I appreciate her candor and her narrating voice.
This is a photo of my winter spice pup.
Oh my God I'm obsessed with this book, and scientology and Leah Remini's life and strength. Though I knew some of her story before I wasn't aware of the particulars of her life in and after scientology. Leah grew up in the religion, poured her life into the organization and got to be very high up in the hierarchy. But her stubborn nature and the sudden disappearance of a friend make her question it all and leave. A revealing book.

Another book club choice. This one I started reading but then switched to audible. Leah reads it herself and really gives it life.
Funny, authentic, frightening! Listening to her read it was probably way funnier and insightful than reading it would have been.
Great job Leah! Well done for getting yourself and your family out of Scientology and going on to tell your story. This book is funny but touching and also very 'real'. Best wishes to you in your future.
I enjoyed this book more than I expected. Especially when Remini talks about how crazy Tom Cruise is because I totally believe every bit of it! Very interesting as I haven‘t watched her show and I didn‘t know much about Scientology. #audiobook
