This is a beautiful essay about the joys of reading and books in general which I will definitely be reading again with hi-lighter in hand.
I‘be been re-reading many of my books about books and reading for an essay I am working on. This short, lovely book is up next.
Readers will recognize the thrill of a fellow book lover in this brief tribute.
“In books, I have traveled, not only to other worlds, but into my own. I learned who I was and who I wanted to be, what I might aspire to, and what I might dare to dream about my world and myself.”
“A book—the book that was, for some reason, THE book— can be reread, unchanged. Only we have changed. And that makes all the difference.”
“Books are the plane, and the train, and the road. They are the destination, and the journey. They are home.”
Finishing up this quick read with a 70 pound lap dog while the husband cooks dinner.
Hey Littens! Check out my granddaughters‘ Video Clip on Good Morning America Facebook and Instagram Pages if you are interested. I got them started early, always buying them books. This is so surreal to me. 💕
I am always going to rate books about reading and books very highly. Because this was written in 1998, before e-readers, the section about the experience of reading on a laptop is funny. I still prefer hard copy books. Oh, also, there are a few reading lists at the end. I love reading lists. Long live the written word. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I absolutely love this quote, and this book.
#BookNDinner! #Vietnamese Edition! Accompaniment this chilly and calm evening: spring rolls with shrimp and pork, a beef noodle-bowl with shrimp and egg rolls, and Thai iced tea! MMMmmm 😋! Happy reads & happy eats! 😎👌🏻
This was the December pick for the #modernmrsdarcy book club. It was a fast read that I really enjoyed. I, too, was the child (and now the adult) who would rather read to the exclusion of almost everything else - and there are never enough hours in the day! This book left me feeling understood and part of a wonderful group of humans who learn about the world - and themselves - from books. #mmdbookclub #mmd
So I got an injury in my right hand and I can't work.... That means reading time.... Starting this book for the #modernmrdarcy book club.
This is a very personal book. Very interesting thoughts, but again since this is personal, this did not necessarily apply to me so much. Bonus...lots of good lists at the end.
We are the ones who saw to it that Pride and Prejudice never went out of print.
... And so am I 📚❤
Started my morning #24in48 finishing Ibbotson's 'The Reluctant Heiress' and now on to Anna Quindlen's book about books. She is giving me all sorts of morning feels for my books and my fellow readers. A great way to keep the morning going... I really want to pick up a Jamaica Kincaid now (she mentions her in chapter one). So many 😊😊😊😍😍😍! #goodmorning #readers
“Books are the plane, and the train, and the road. They are the destination, and the journey. They are home.” - Anna Quindlen
I think this is a lovely quote. I personally agree that reading is so much more than it seems. I would read all day if I could. I just started this account and I know it‘s going to be great. I want to share all the books I read and all the quotes I find, also I might write a short story. So it going to be great.
Filled with commentary on lots of books. I love this kind of stuff.
Between a pick and a so-so. I loved her love of reading but found her overview of pleasure reading slightly myopic. Full review https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/1545751374?book_show_action=false&from_rev...
Yessssssss. Sometimes even within bookish online communities you get snotty comments if you read a high number about it's not a race, quality is more important than quantity, who's so insecure that they count the number of books read in a year, "I'm too busy" (that last one is valid except when said in response to another person's reading as it implies someone else's time is frivolous if they read "too much")
I gave up on Seveneves which left me in the peculiar predicament of having nothing already in progress after kids went to sleep tonight. I grabbed this for #LetterQ of #LitsyAtoZ and may start another Q later (actually only had four unread books by Q authors on my goodreads so I borrowed all of them).

I chose two because I‘ve been reflecting on “things” lately.
"We read in bed because reading is halfway between life and dreaming" -Anna Quindlen

#LitsyTruth #bookmark for all you beautiful #littens
"It still seems infinitely mysterious to me that there are some of us who have built not a life but a self, based largely on our hunger for what are a series of scratches on a piece of paper."
I am just absolutely speechless with delight and gratitude! Thank you so so so SO much, @kspenmoll for this lovely box of goodies! I am so excited about the books, (how can I even begin to choose which to read first?!?), I can't wait to make some pretty arts with my new markers, and I love the bookmarks and beautiful little bag! You are the absolute BEST!♡♡♡ Thank you so much for everything! #beachinbookswap #litsybookexchange
"I lived within the covers of books and those books were more real to me than any other thing in my life." Beautiful quote by Anna Quindlen
I could read Anne Quindlen's stunning words all day. ? "Books are the plane, and the train, and the road. They are the destination and the journey. They are home." Anne also includes several amusing lists like this one. So which book would you save? ??Sorry Melville, I'd rescue all Anne Tyler and Fannie Flagg. LitsyA-Z #LetterQ @BookishMarginalia
"Yet we take it so for granted, the ability to simply flip the pages and to know what the daughter of a parson, now long dead, once thought of the conventions of matrimony in Regency England, and, certainly, of the relations between men and women into perpetuity."
Oh, that parson's daughter! ❤
"Not for nothing did the Nazis light up the night skies in their cities with the burning of books."
Another for my goal to read/re-read books I already own and then to set (most of) them free.
My other personal #readingchallenge for 2017 is to clean up my #tbr stack. It's silly but I'll feel accomplished after reading all the books whose titles begin with k,q,u,v,y & z and whose authors' names start with q,u,v,y, & z. The 4 challenges include 101 books so I have some flexibility for the other 20 I'll try for Goodreads. I've never been this organized or planned the year like this so we'll see how it goes! Wish me luck!

Working on book lists for 2017 Reading Challenges. I want to do as much as possible without buying new books, but this is taking some serious thought and planning (and, yes, will involve the purchase of additional books, even duplicating books across challenges) #blameitonLitsy
Books are the plane, and the train, and the road. They are the destination, and the journey. They are home.
I picked Anna Quindlen as my character and author because reading has changed my life in giving me new worlds to explore, new friendships and journeys that I never thought would be possible. Reading takes me from impossible to possible everyday!😀💕📚 #FunFridayPhoto
