pickNot a whodunnit, because readers know off the bat, who killed a preschooler in a Japanese school, but the revelations of *why* is what really makes this book a page turner. A middle school teacher‘s child is murdered by two of her students. We get perspectives from each, plus the teacher and mother of one of the boys. Over the top, tragic, and cinematic. Is this a film? Seems like it could be! Good, not my type of read, but one to think about!
pickWow, this was a doozy of a revenge thriller/horror. A teacher has lost her child and discovers some of her students are responsible. Throughout the book the truth unravels from multiple POVs and the ending made me gasp. The one flaw of the book is some repetitiveness as we hear the story from different characters but I still highly recommend this one. 4.5⭐️ CW in comments ⬇️

pickThis was good but not great. Loved the alternating narrative viewpoints and the twists and turns. Some of the plot machinations are pretty hard to swallow but overall a dark and satisfying tale of revenge. I look forward to watching the inevitable J-drama adaptation when it arrives on our shores via Netflix.

pickI like this author and her writing style. I know their stories can be slow, they are more character driven but with unlikely characters. As in Penance, we see revenge, morally questionable in their motives to justify their actions. I couldn‘t put it down. It was like a study of disturbed personalities caused for the presence of various factors. There social criticism. I can understand the mixed reviews but in my case I liked it. 4⭐️
so-so🌟🌟🌟I love me some revenge tales and this one was dark and twisty, however since I couldn‘t connect or even like the characters much, it was hard to be invested in the outcome. The revenge was a doosey, it didn‘t exactly WOW me.

pickStarted and finished this one yesterday which really helped for my #20in4 ( @Andrew65 ). I could not put this book down!! 😍 Confessions is a story of revenge. We know who the killers are, but even though we know, its suspenseful the whole way through. If you enjoy thrillers you'll love this one! @Jemmygem you were right, it was great! 😁📚

I can‘t get over how great this book is. I am 1/4 threw it and likely not sleeping until it is done. What a mind blowing twisting novel. That man I hope answers all the questions that I am coming up with. @michellelav you are going to LOVE this one.

The writing style was unusual and while I appreciated it, it may not be for everyone.

Told from alternating prescriptives we get to see the motivations and inner workings of the mostly unredeemable characters. There are no winners in this story just losers. No redemption arc or moral high ground. Just evil doings and tradegy. It's all darkness.

pickWhat a strange little story. Although I read this rather quickly, I did not particularly enjoy the reading experience. The story begins with a teacher revealing to her class how two of them caused her daughter‘s death. But rather than that being the ending, it‘s the beginning. Then the fallout happens, told from the students‘ points of view. My verdict is: intriguing, not a style I‘m used to, and might be good to discuss with a book group.
