Het verloren labyrint
Het verloren labyrint | Kate Mosse
Twee tijden, twee vrouwen, n noodlot... Kunnen ze beschermen wat hun lief is? Juli 2005.

Pickpick

There is a lot of history to digest in this book, but it‘s a pick for me. I‘m not sure if it was slow because I had family visiting while reading or if it was the book because you do need to focus so you don‘t miss any of the details. I loved the connection between Alice and Alais. The mystery was good too. I guessed incorrectly who Audric was, but felt more satisfied with who was revealed. I also enjoyed learning about a history I didn‘t know.

I did a #bookcrawl yesterday, visiting 11 bookstores in the Charlotte area in 9 hours. It was exhausting, but I was up for the challenge! 15 books later, I‘m a very happy girl. I‘m 90% sure I didn‘t buy anything I already own 🤣 such a fun day, and the last store I shopped at gave me $11 off for visiting every store!

1/5⭐ Sad I didn't enjoy b/c the hardbacks are so pretty. Many 1D POVs w/ no apparent purpose. Info overload w/o knowing what matters. Many long-winded passages. E.g.:
Alais: *dramatically insists on speaking w/ her father*
Father: What's wrong?
A: *silence*
F: Are you hurt?
A: ...
F: Do you need help?
A: ...
F: I can't help if you don't talk.
A: ...
If a scene drags at 1.8 audio speed, something's wrong w/ the pacing. #projectTBR #projectnew

I didn‘t enjoy this book at all but I don‘t want to write a long thing about how awful it was - it really didn‘t suit me at all, but I don‘t think that makes it a terrible book just not what I wanted it to be. I normally love books like this (I unashamedly loved The Da Vinci Code and I adore The Name Of The Rose) but something didn‘t click with this one at all. Glad I finished it but probably won‘t read the sequel unless it‘s very cheap

TrishB I loved this - but didn‘t like either of the others you‘ve named! Differing views 👍🏻 6y

Really struggling to get on with this one... I never bail on books but I‘m frustrated by how unrealistic I find all the characters and how dry all the historical detail is. I‘ve been so unenthusiastic about reading it I just haven‘t been listening to audiobooks at all. Turned speed up to 3x so I can speed through and see if it gets better

AceOnRoam 3x hehehe. Chipmunk Punk. But sometimes you gotta speed it up!! 6y
Emilymdxn @AceOnRoam im normally pretty good at not losing any detail with it on fairly fast speeds but I like to really crank it up when I‘m in ‘just get through it‘ mode 6y

Well, either I'm going as a French forest with tall trees, wild boar and lynx, or I'll be a French quarry worker with the usual pale skin. That last bit doesn't make sense, even in the early 13th century working outside would get you a tan; probably constant tan/leathery skin.

Hmm? Will go with the forest then. 😀

Lindy @julesG I know! So ordinary, except I still have to find out what a body-warmer is. Also, by that page in the novel, the missing girl would have outgrown the clothes she was wearing when she disappeared, so that would be an interesting costume challenge. 7y
